Is Jormag's Breath supposed to be so...small?
Why didnt you check this before making it? So you wouldnt be dissapointed
Thanks for posting, was thinking about getting Jormag’s Breath to go with my FDS but I don’t think ill bother now.
I’m sure Anet will fix this by making the flames on the FDS smaller.
I never would have noticed that if you hadn’t brought it up. I mean, I wasn’t going to get it anyway because of the poor contrast between the flame and hilt (the hilt should have been silver like in GW1, not the bland white that it is), but…still.
I think Jormag’s Breath is fine. If anything, the Fiery Dragon sword needs to be adjusted (toned down). Despite having access to that skin for the entire game I have never wanted to use it because it’s just too big. When sheathed at the hip the fiery effect clips horribly with the ground – it just extends out too far past the physical blade.

This.
I think FDS is perfect…I’d hate to have to find a new weapon just because they make the flame skinny or short (which would look nothing like it did in GW1).
I loved the three dragon swords in GW1 and was pleased to see that two of them made an appearance in GW2, but although I thought the FDS looks great when wielded, it’s a shame the fire effect persists when the weapon is stowed – it looks rather silly, and it puts me off using this skin.
I haven’t seen Jormag’s Breath in the flesh, so to speak, but it would have been on my wish list so thanks for the heads-up. It would be nice if these minor nitpicks could be fixed, because the design of the weapons is otherwise great. While we’re on the subject of nitpicks – the inventory icon for the FDS needs work as currently it is directly lifted from GW1 and looks out of place.
Perhaps we’ll see the vampiric version appear in a future expansion…
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I think Jormag’s looks perfect as it is.

The GW 1 sword looks too big. Something that size is coming closer to a two hander.
No comment on the size difference, but I do really like that the two actually have different models.
Bumping thread for the updated picture. Maybe it’s just me, but the size really bugs me for being the exact opposite of Fiery Dragon Sword.

Honestly, I’d be okay with that.
Having them both the same size would be great instead of having one gigantic kitten blade of flame and a little dagger of frost.

It’s very hard to even know there would be a difference.
Even on the wiki it says,"This weapon is the opposite color of the Fiery Dragon Sword from the Hall of Monuments. Its flames are blue instead of red. " so it implies it’s the same, just opposite colors.
I’ve tried looking up comparison pictures on google to show here, but I couldn’t find anything. I had to make my own.
Sometimes less is more. I actually like it better than the fiery dragon sword.

Agreed, jormag’s breathe looks great the way it is, the fiery sword on the other hand is like a few ticks from a forest fire.

To be honest, I’d be happy if they were just the same size; big or small.
I don’t mind how big the FDR is, so that’s why I brought up Jormag’s Breath being so small, but I’d be happy too if they made the FDR a little smaller to match Jormag’s Breath.
I dunno. The swords really remind me of GW1 and I’m really glad they brought them over, but I feel they need to be opposites in color, not size.

Don’t even joke like that. I would rage. FDS is perhaps the most perfectly made weapon currently in the game IMO. It has lighting effects, constant flashy particle effects, and an on-kill effect that makes it unique. If it wasn’t for the fact that so many people have it, it would almost be a kind of pseudo-legendary, at least in appearance and number of effects.
On top that, it’s the only weapon based on an actually lorewise legendary set of weapons.

Agreed. I LOVE my Jormag’s Breath. I also move how bright it is, lighting up a dark room in blue rather than the dull red.

Does it also have enemies burst into flame like FDS? I was thinking about going bavk to Gw1 to get the FDS so I could get both
We are sworn together by our blood…
Prefer the Hom skin tbh

Oh I love that! It’s gives some great lighting effects on your character in dark areas and the sword underneath is just an ugly twisted claw thing, really not pretty without the particles. But hey, it’s all a matter of taste I guess!
I have to admit, I was a bit…. unimpressed with the effects of Jormag’s when I first got it, but soon after I got it I actually come rather fond of its controlled look (as opposed to the FDS).
Honestly, I think the Fiery Dragon sword has some scaling issues. It’s just too large for a one-handed sword. Not only does the flame extend too far beyond the physical blade, the particle effect at the tip is too large rather than shrinking to a point.
And the grip is far too long to the point of looking comical and unwieldy. The entire item badly needs to be shrunk down. As is, you could easily wield this sword two-handed without anything looking odd.

Wow, that looks sorta crazy. On my Male Sylvari it doesn’t look that big at all.
I wonder what makes it so huge for you.
That’s not my character, just an image grabbed from the web. Human males have a similar problem, though.
Greatswords and Swords are horrible overdimensioned in GW2 for whatever reason.
Compare a Greatsword to a Hammer and a Sword to a Mace.
Do you even lift, bro?
Give him a break, it’s just cold out.

And we have a winner of this thread.
What’s my prize?

Example:
I don’t understand. Isn’t this a good thing? It’s an extremely large blade, but it’s not “comical” because the sword is probably insanely lightweight.
I just don’t get why you guys are trying to make what is my personal favorite weapon less noticable and less flashy. It’s not like HOM rewards were incredibly easy to get, they at least took some time.
And also, why would the flame shrink to a point? It’s a raging fire, it’s going to go in every direction.
I think I take a lot of offense to these suggestions purely because the FDS is in my eyes the weapon that seems like they put the most time into it, barring legendaries.
In my eyes, Jormag’s breath should be scaled UP in size, but leave the particle effect alone. The way I see it, the FDS’s particles spread out wide because it’s fire, blazing in every direction, where as JB’s particles are directed forward, and icy, less unpredictable.
The real problem lies in the fact that in GW1, IDS was just a reskinned FDS, where as in GW2, Jormag’s Breath has an entirely different model than the FDS (completely different dragon head and texturing.)

Let’s look at a few pictures again (attachment below) and I’ll try to be more specific. On the left we have some pretty cool concept art of Rytlock holding Sohothin, the weapon the fiery dragon sword was modeled after. Notice how his hand is holding the grip near the guard. Now, note the screenshot of the GW2 female in the center, and how she is holding the grip much closer to the pommel. Not only does it look horrible, it’s just wrong.
The grip in the concept art on the left is about 2 1/2 – 3 hands wide. The grip in the center screenshot is about 3 1/2 – 4 hands wide.. it needs to be shrunk down. The dragon head representing the guard is also much more reasonably sized in the concept art of Rytlock.
As far as the physical “blade” of the sword goes, it’s about the same size as other one-handed swords in the game. But the flame effect extends much further beyond it, to an extent where it clips through the ground when sheathed at a character’s hip. And because it is so dense and bloated at the tip (unlike the concept art) it makes the remainder of the sword look far larger than a one-handed sword should. Additionally, the fire effect not narrowing to more of a point is that it ends up looking more like a club or a torch than a sword. While the flame effect in the GW2 screenshot is very similar to the concept art, in the concept art the brightest/hottest part of the flame narrows to a point to sell the illusion.
I’ve also attached an image on the right of the FDS from the original Guild Wars. The inferior graphic quality aside, I feel it looks better because the scale is smaller and more reasonable, the character is holding the grip much closer to the guard, and the flame effect (as minimal as it is) at least narrows to a point.

I think you’ve pretty much summed up all my thoughts perfectly, especially in that last bit. It’s a completely different model whereas the FDS isn’t, and that’s what really bugs me. Either make the FDS like Jormag’s Breath, or visa versa. Having them both be so different really throws off the weapons.
it’s been two years and it hasnt been adjusted ;0
You really could have just made a new thread.
u don’t know that certain parts get smaller when Jormags cold breath is on them?
Never meet the ladies after a cold shower … never
I like how the FDS is now, thank you.
The thing is, the people who got and use one of these swords like them as they are (or else they wouldn’t have gotten and used them). It’s hardly fair to change them up after 3 years now. There would be a lot of unhappy people if they did that.
ANet may give it to you.

This, essentially. look at all the recent outcries about ‘fixed’ legendaries that people liked in their ‘glitched’ form…
Jormags the same size, it just doesn’t have as much of a glow.
Dragonbrand
Jormags the same size, it just doesn’t have as much of a glow.
Jormag’s Breath doesn’t have the flames extending out as far which is less stupid looking since FDS ends in being dragged through the floor when you walk, at least on a human. The blade on Jormag’s Breath is also more defined.
