Am I right in thinking that Karma is a no longer a viable currency or reward for experienced GW2 players? There seems to be so much Karma in the game that new items can never now be sold with a Karma cost. Has the failure of this currency contributed to the merciless pursuit of gold and items by players, and the grinding of dailies and other content?

personally I would have preferred if there were only 2 main currencies;

Gold

Karma

We now have so many other currencies that karma is mostly used for legendaries and Orrian boxes for some gold back, because you cant even salvage the stuff you can buy with it.

Dungeon tokens could be acceptable, but my goodness, we now have so many currencies….. and still karma is used for nothing but that and buying food.

I, for once, would like to see some GOOD use (as in shinies!) to the 248 daily karma jugs, 500 drops of karma and so on I own…

With that said, will dungeon rewards get updated when ascended armor and weapons come out? Or will they just be relegated to exotic status?

Pretty much, yeah. It’s obvious they didn’t offer enough options for spending it, and anything they add now will either requires lots of grinding (by those who continually dump theirs on boxes), be purchased immediately (by those who never spend theirs on anything), or be time-gated (something we could do with a lot less of).

I’m ready to drop a million of it on those shards I need for a legendary and the clovers, but that poor Balthazar temple is so neglected. It doesn’t matter if I’m on my home server or guesting, I’ve not seen it open for months.

If it was to begin to be used though and we got it instead of the event currencies I think it’d eventually balance out. Everyone just has so much atm because there’s nothing to do with it.

Would be nice to have more things to buy with them and all, but Orrian boxes are still a nice profit. Although after spending around 4.4 mill karma at once on 962 boxes and breaking my finger I think that’s what’s broken the most about it.

Need some quantity of purchase and “open all” functions or something. >.<

I still had 1.4mill karma left after all those but I just couldn’t take it anymore…

That one’s not gonna happen. Like, ever.

Just like the inclusion of dungeon tokens instead of random drops or a universal dungeon currency, Karma would have to be one of the choices that you make very early in the development process.

And honestly, ask yourself: What would be the point of having stuff that you can only get with Karma… if you can buy Karma?

I would love to see some more uses for karma. As an alternative to gold/tokens for obtaining certain loot.

Karma is still very useful. You can use it to buy your gathering/salvaging tools. It is an alternative currency to get exotic armor and jewelry at the temples. If you have an excess of karma and don’t need the above, you can go and buy Lost Orrian Jewelry Boxes in malchor’s/cursed shore and turn it into hard cash.

Lost Orrian Jewelry Boxes can contain npc trash (a stack is 1g25s), risen mini’s, unlimited use morph pots, obsidian shards, Lodestones, and karma items.

So what you do is you get all of the karma buffs, pop all your karma stuff (I save them up to max it), then buy boxes, pop the karma stuff you got from the boxes, and get more boxes with it (repeat). This cycle efficiently turns karma into gold and lodestones.

Here are the buffs you’ll want on:

Karma Booster or Karma Bonfire for 50%, Hero’s banner 15% Karma (the karma/xp one gives 10% iirc), Ice cream or Kralkachocolate bar food 5%, 15% Karma for 24 hrs guild buff, and Karma Infused Neck equipped 15% bonus.

WARNING: It’s a lot of clicking and you’ll want to do it quickly so that you’ll still have all the karma buffs on. Make sure you keep an eye on your karma buffs so you don’t accidentally pop the karma items without the buffs on.

It’s a very good and flexible currency. Would I like it if they put in more things like skins for karma (say from living story)? Yea, that would be nice. But it’s really not needed since you can convert karma into gold anyways.

Dont think it does. As long as the change is control you can make up for it. Also most of it comes from one time events and that has even less impact.

lets say before we were getting I dont know say 5k karma daily and now we’re getting say 50k karma daily. That doesnt mean now no new items can be sold for karma only that to keep things viable new stuff will cost 10x as much karma.

Hmmmmm I have a feeling if this is true it will probably be tied to crafting the new Tier 7 Fine mats and possibly be tied to crafting precursors…..

Right now I have 3.2 mil karma because I gobbled up a stack of those karma jugs and other random karma items that I had sitting in the bank when the new wallet came and oh I have 7 alts as well of course so that helped. :P

What to do, what to do…..

I partially blame the karma jugs. The things give you over 10 events worth of karma just for doing your daily, and then you get 10 a month for doing the monthly. I had a stack of 250 karma jugs, another stack of about 50, and multiple stacks of all the other types of karma consumables from glob-knows-where. when the wallet came out, I popped all the boosters and had a grand total of around 5 million karma.

When I run my friends through a set of low level fractal to help them out, I get over 7 thousand karma per run.

With all those millions of karma I was able to get over 150 of the obsidian shards I needed to make my legendary just from orrian boxes. Now with my legendary finished I have 1 million karma left over, and still have a whole row in my bank dedicated to various karma vials.

The point being you can get a ridiculous load of karma for doing next to nothing. If the only way to get karma was to put in the work to run around and do all the events in sight, there would be much less of a karma surplus.

Simply, the new “limiting currency” for gear is not karma anymore (remember first months, ppl farming Cursed Shore for ages to grind the karma for exotic pieces?) but laurels.

Karma has become a nice extra to regular rewards, either to gear alts (with temples) pick up some shiny stuff or, usually, be dropped in a crapload of orrian boxes for extra reward.
