It seems that the difference between an acceptable loot drop rate versus laughable drop rate in places like Orr, the Cove, etc. is high MF (>100 for sure).

Comments?

With the nerf to loot drops in Orr (reverted the change a few days back that actually made the zone playable and farmable) I am convinced that MF is almost mandatory at this point. So this means gimping a build simply to make up for a poor loot table design.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a weak excuse for poor drop rates.

Also, they’ve doubled back on the manifesto and their supposed vision so many times already that I can’t give them any credit for allegedly trying to adhere to that vision.

I am convinced that MF is almost mandatory at this point.

I’m pretty sure the goal was to use MF stacking as a means of identifying efficient farming spots for nerfing.

As they progress through the nerfs, it’s not surprising that players would begin to feel MF is mandatory.

If they didn’t want farming, they probably shouldn’t have added mf to begin with seeing as that’s mostly what it’s for.

The problem is, those of us who have issues with loot drops, (in my experience) are worse off with magic find. Until the loot issue is properly resolved (and magic find ends up working as intended) then magic find may be necessary for more good drops.

MF is a tax on farming. Its inclusion means that a drop rate that is “acceptable” to the devs has to take MF into consideration. As a result, those who do without MF are just a wee bit under the curve over the long haul. It’s a horrid mechanic.

It’s gonna be tough to resolve an issue that they (and a lot of fanboys) refuse to acknowledge exists in the first place.

Drop rate also has to take into account the fact that everyone gets their own loot. The Orr change was probably intended for solo players. Zerging it however is like adding a multiplier to your gains while reducing the effort.

The devs never said they were against farming, they said the opposite. They’re just against botting, which impacts farming.

That’s what I thought. Except all the traps setup for bots are affecting real players, too. Why do we get punished for their actions? It feels like I’m at the airport getting groped by the TSA sometimes, and I haven’t even done anything wrong.

Well arguing from a damage perspective that people tend to massacre MF on, if MF does less damage as those people claim, then it means that the loot drop would balance out because you kill slower. e.g. if I kill 10 monsters per minute with MF but I can kill 15 monsters with “proper” gear then effectively, I have 5 more monsters to have a chance at loot as oppose to 10. Overall, it probably balances things out to a almost unobservable % in terms of loot drop, whether you wear MF or not, given you fight at 100% efficiency in both and we don’t take into account the secret “hot blooded” elite skill we have as MF welding players.

Unfortunately, they probably still take mf into consideration as if it did have nearly full efficiency when deciding drop rates

I see absolutely no reason why you wouldn’t farm orr with a mf set (sorry for the double negative).

Designing content which bots struggle to complete, while still being accessible to the lowest common denominator of gamers, is difficult.

I guess you could take an approach of screwing bad players, but all that would accomplish is to invert the fanboy/hater parties; you’d get all the same QQ, but now it would be qualified with “well I’m a casual and I buy more gems/spend more money on this game.”

That’s if you’re soloing, maybe. If what you’re doing is tagging large groups with AoE in a DE, there will be no discernible negative impact on kill speed from using MF, as long as there are some other players doing the event.

I shelved my MF gear weeks ago. I’ve actually had better luck since with drops.

I haven’t donned the MF for a month. I had crap drops and severely reduced efficacy against foes with MF on (besides looking ridiculous), and now I wear my rampager’s gear fulltime and enjoy normal-ish loot while looking good (bonus) and hitting well with massive crit’s.

As an example of how MF isn’t working as intended, a few weeks back I was farming corrupted lodes with two other buddies who wore full MF gear, packed a luck weapon, ate MF food and even erected an MF banner to use while we were farming. I chose to use none of that and went 0% MF. An hour’s worth of farming later I come out with 3 lodes and a rare, while the other two came away with nothing more than green’s.

In my mind, that’s MF ‘par for the course’.

I have a magic find set, but the difference is almost impossible to notice. I’m sure its there, but only if you chart it over many many kills will you notice it.

I prefer to use power, toughness, precession, or whatever to kill faster or live longer. Time is money. Killing quicker or dieing less, will in the end get you more money. Thats the way I see it anyway….

I have a number of chars. One of them has over 200 MF when I roll him. I don’t notice a difference between that char and my others. I am completely sceptical about MF.

They may have fiddled with how MF works with the introduction of the new MF infusions.

Keep in mind they want to keep the greatest benefits from it clustered towards the top end of players’ ability to stack it. They’ve also had quite a bit of time to collect data on drop rates and nerf accordingly, so tuning down MF is an ever increasing option (even while at the same time they’re increasing the ability to sacrifice other stats for it).

My use of MF has been limited to a set of cheap (green) jewelry on a single character, along with food, banner, and boosts (just the free ones the game has given me). I’m not wasting any more space than that on the silly concept. Even with all of this “doubling” my MF chances, the only thing that ever felt it it might have changed was the number of fine materials dropping. Certainly not twice as many green/masterwork items, and rare/golds would take hours of farming to ever notice the difference it the rates did actually double.

To me, MF is just a useless farming stat, and a waste of space. I don’t have any desire to stand at the end of a tunnel dropping AoEs on an enemy spawn location, so I doubt it would do me any good, anyway. The only noticable effect someone not mass-farming is going to notice is the huge lack of attributes/stats that actually matter in gameplay.
