Is Magic Find broken..
RNG is RNG, etc.
Exaggeration won’t really get you anywhere. I made a set that has just under 100% Magic Find two days ago and I’ve practically been swimming in greens and blues ever since I got it. With the occasional yellow thrown in(Though I’ve gotten more than I did before).

are you over 100% though cuz im at 100% mf and i kill at least 100+ mobs and i get maybe 20/100 actually drop loot and its all trash trophy things.
maybe im farming the wrong areas?
o.O … Magic find = increase in rare drop rate? learned something ^^
cool!… if so I think perhaps there is a cap somewhere… so even if you have 100% MF, its capped at… say … 40% (just making a random number)…
so it can be that your luck was terrible during the buff, but you got lucky when it goes…
(idk… just an explanation that I could have thought of)

All that 100% MF does is effectively double the standard drop rates for items. So if the mob that you’re fighting has a .1% chance of a Yellow drop and a 5% chance of a Blue drop, then this would effectively adjust things to .2% for a Yellow and 10% for a Blue. Yes, +MF does matter to some degree. Yet if the base drop rates are low for the mobs that you’re killing, then doubling a very low chance is still a very low chance.

I think I was at 89~%. Somewhere around there.
Farming in one spot is going to guarantee that you don’t get anything. ANet included an anti-farm code in the game. You can’t just farm one area.

i now how the math works for chance of drops. its still out of 100 kills i haven’t gotten one blue

Sounds like the anti-farming script kicking in. Try killing things on another map.

The anti-farm stuff kicks in somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20 mins in the same area or around 50 mob kills. SOmething like that.

ahh ok how big is the area radius i was all over the cursed shores not in just one spot

If this is true then your chances of getting rare items is the same, you just get more drops…
Edit: I meant by percentage, you’ll get more rare drop because you get more of everything.

I think it’s really based on how many mobs of a type within a time limit.
Risen are all considered the same type, so it kicks in incredibly fast.

Wiser with Age: where did you get this info? I’d love to hear something official on this. Everything else is just a guess.
Wait, so the anti farming thing is based purely on zones and how many of the exact same mob you killed?
I thought it was basically shared with the bonus xp type thing where if you kill continue to kill some mobs in the same little area they have no bonus xp/low loot), but if you move on and kill something that hasn’t been touched you get alot of bonus xp/loot.
