Norn Guardian – Aurora Lustyr (Lv 80)
Mia A Shadows Glow – Human Thief (Lv 80)
Q:
Launch was Zhaitan, we’re over a year and a half later and he still has lots of minions somehow. They won’t give up on those temples either for some reason.
I understand that it would be a massive undertaking to gradually redesign 3 existing maps, but the story is what was told.
Orr has been cleansed, Zhaitan’s been defeated yet all this time the land hasn’t changed.
This hopefully shows that it’s important to be careful with lore, because the game can break it’s own immersion.
In the future with the main stories in game, set expectations that will be followed through with.
I don’t actually want development time spent transitioning Orr, because there’s more valuable ways to spend that time. It would be nice if at some point Orr received a story update, or we learned more about what the deal is with Orr post Zhaitan in some fashion.
It would be nice, but….
- A large portion on the Personal story would also have to be redone.
- At this point we probably need new content more than we need changes to existing content.
This was possible in GW1 where maps were instances but it would be hard to do here because then even characters who haven’t finished the personal story would be able to visit the cleansed Orr which would be odd.
Unlikely. Think of what playing a new character would be like.
Treaherne: Welcome to Orr.. A land of undeath and suffering..
Player: Uhmm.. Treaherne.. Zhaitan’s been dead for over a year.. It’s over..
Treaherne: /sobs What am I supposed to do now..?
There are still new players have not done the personal story yet, and Zhaitan is still around. We can’t just change the map and make permanent change to Orr based on the defeat of Zhaitan.
A solution is to make an alternative map that is after Zhaitan’s death. Only allow players who’ve finished personal story to enter. Give us a pop window to select which time line of the map we want to enter at portal and before WP.
It should indeed become cleaned, and maybe getting filled with people settling there.
Regarding Sundar problems, there is kind of a solution: just like the Eden in GW1, Orr could exist in two alternative maps, one for thos who haven’t completed the game, full of Risen etc, and another for those who have finished the game, full of different (and maybe new) ennemies. The player who has completed the game could then choose between entering the Risen-map or the Risen-Free map, just like choosing a path in a dungeon.
Yet I do confess that it could be really difficult to set, however it could be a solution like any other.

Technically Trahearne’s wyld hunt wasn’t to kill Zhaitan but cleans Orr. There’s some ambiguity as to how much Zhaitan actually actually corrupted it (completely or only partially) but he sure didn’t help. Now that Zhaitan is dead, the cleansing can start but probably take a while.
Anyway, I personally would prefer they open up the rest of Orr, and show these areas being cleansed, that way not impacting the Personal Story.
That’s all fine and dandy, but how about an update to Orr that changes the mobs to not be pulled in 5 packs, snare you, and then beat your face in?…..cries
Anyway, I personally don’t see it happening because the changes would have to affect the open world. They could make it so you couldn’t see cleansed Orr until AFTER you finish the story, but then all those events and such would be tricky and…its just a developing mess. Maybe with a major story development I can see it happening.
If wow could do it with wotlk, i don’t see why gw2 cannot
Hopefully season 2 of living story focuses on cleansing Orr.
Because changing area that is tied to the personal story of newly created characters would break it and immersion.
But you do know that we have defeated Zhaitan, but got no kill confimation.
Zhaitan fell into the ruined city of Arah, we never get to venture there to confirm the kill…
There’s even possibility that defeat means only that the dragon goes back to thousand years long hibernation to recover. That the weapons we had weren’t enough to kill it.
Although I think Orr maps are too calm, to be a warzone between Pact and Zhaitan…
They should just remove the personal story so that isnt an arguement against updating anything anymore… already have a living story, and 95% (yay made up but realistic stat) of people could care less about the personal story anyway.
To be honest, the Personal Story should never have revolved around an event that is actually supposed to effect an entire zone because it leads to this exact question, and it’s a valid question. They talk about the cleansing of Orr like it’s supposed to mean something, but it’s never actually been brought up in any of the Living Stories since.
They probably should have made the Personal Story take place on a less-epic scale, or made Straits, Malchor’s, and Cursed Shore completely locked to players that have not completely their Personal Story. Either one would technically make more sense, but I think the first option is the better one.
The Personal Story could have had us defeating something culturally related to our character’s race, on a much less epic scale, and it wouldn’t have this “but Orr should be cleansed” problem.
AND, then they could have worked the cleansing of Orr into the Living World and changed the map as we went. Would have been awesome.

I can give you something even better :
Order : We must alert everyone and get to Claw Island ! Zhaitan is going to destroy LA !
Player : Scarlet already completely destroyed it
Just a thought and it probably would be a bit of work but why not just run the personal story from a single instance position in the home city of your character that then would just insert you into the instance location of your personal story level… that way every zone can update without worry of effecting the personal story and those who do wish to participate in it still can just sans exploration included.
Anet has said they will never change orr for the reasons that have been stated, new players still doing the PS.
That’s all fine and dandy, but how about an update to Orr that changes the mobs to not be pulled in 5 packs, snare you, and then beat your face in?…..cries…
After a while, you get used to dealing with the mobs… you never get used to killing 10 mobs and getting a 16 copper skull trophy for all that work.
I like to think about each map as an instance locked in an specific time, telling certain stories, reason why events keep restarting no matter how many times you clear them, reason why there seems to be an infinite supply of dredges / centaurs / flame legions / etc, reason why Orr will remain the same.
All events in Strait of Devastation and Malchor’s Leap assume that we have yet to reach Cursed Shore, but all events in Cursed Shore assume that the assault to Arah is either being prepared or is starting. Those maps tell fragments of the story and not even the living story can change that.
One way to do this is by implementing two versions of the same map, but is it really worth it? Orr is dead enough as it is right now.
Another way is new maps in Orr set in a time after Zhaitan, but new areas seem to fall under the LS and that one seems to be moving to the Maguuma Jungle.
I don’t get it why people wanna have Orr cleansed, just because?
Look at LA, now that there’s no events there no one around, its a ghost town.
Orr would be just like that, massive undertaking, half the players wouldn’t care, the other half would look for a minute and go away.
It serves no purpose having Orr cleaned and get all green while all the minions and events get removed, what then? As if Orr was under populated already.
It would be “cool” but people barely care for that kinda cool.
My vote is for a living story with three new areas that outline the cleansing of Orr. First new one borders Cursed Shore and is just a little better, second one borders that and is much improved, third one borders that one and is glorious.
Also the cleansing process might be slow one too. It might take few thousands of years, before Orr would stop being a wasteland of undeath.
We also have explorable paths in Arah, where we release a Risen Chicken from Zhaitans corruption, which occurs after we have defeated Zhaitan…
Don’t forget that Tequatl evolved after Zhaitan’s defeat too.

I believe Orr will eventually be cleansed, but I suspect when we get something similar to a new campaign, especially where the personal story lines are expanded on.
I believe Orr should be cleansed as well kinda like the reverse of Kessex hills. And we could have the personal story quests locations moved to fort trinity like how they have personal story quests that took place in LA now at the vigil’s keep. Something short and simple. No need to make extra maps and stuff.
