Is Orr now Obsolete? Returning Player
I don’t know if Orr is “obsolete” but most people prefer to farm world events and run Citadel of Flames explorable mode path 1 for their money. They did add a new Level 80 zone (Southsun Core) but I don’t personally spend much time there so I can’t tell you all of what’s up with that.
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.
Event spawn timers are increased, so there’s no point to go there and wait for half an hour doing nothing. If you want to farm gold, cof p1 is currently the only efficient option.
Southsun cove is a ghost town. (even more than cursed shore)

There are simply more fun ways to get gold and karma.
Orr temples are a different matter of course.
there’s more or less no reason to go to orr

The living story and boss chests at certain DE now give players stuff to do outside of farming Orr. Of course players still go to Orr to get their exotic Karma armor at the temples.
RIP City of Heroes
Other than gathering I rarely go to orr.
Unfortunately in my case, the death of Orr spelled the death of open world pve for me. I’m not really interested in jumping from meta to meta for a rare that sells for 25s or so. The real heart-breaker is that I just recently finished my MF suit. Oh well.
Some servers seem to keep the temples open, I guess for shards and karma gear. Other than that I see no reason to visit Orr. It’s unrewarding, a nightmare to traverse, and so bland on enemies…
Some people still run Temples for fun- we did Balthazar last week and on my server a bunch of people do mining runs every night- I think.
Clear all the temples at least once a week.
The thing is with updated scaling and rewards an 80 can pretty much play anywhere and still find it worthwhile.
Many people just play in which ever zones they prefer.
Many people simply don’t like Orr.
Anet was talking somewhere about revamping Orr again so we’ll see.

run melandru then every time when you see that it’s up. The best farm spot for T6 in my opinion. Especially if you don’t drop by there to do the last defend, but rather actually escort from 1st to 2nd beacon and defend there. Hordes of risen that drop good stuff!
And the last time I’ve checked at least on Underworld Orr is not completely dead. I see people in small groups still running the good old karma train trough out the map.

Yeah after shelt/pen got nerfed I resorted to farming meta events on all my alts on all three servers.
Then it just go so cumbersome and time-consuming that I’ve stopped giving a kitten about it.
BTW MF gear has no effect on chests.

Orr and Southsun are pretty much dead on Dragonbrand. I pop over there once in a while for Arah or if I’m bored. I only ever see a bot or two roaming around and 3 or 4 people waiting for pent/shelter. I don’t think Anet has any idea what to do with Orr. First they felt the need to nerf it, then they tried to revamp it, but nothing seems to fix that place.
You can sort of tell Anet’s attitude toward Orr when they mention that living story and holiday events don’t take place in Orr. Like on Wintersday they said something about the random gift boxes being everywhere but Orr “where there isn’t much cheer.”

Well you have to give Anet credit. They like to create atmospheres that truly convey how they are supposed to feel.
Orr is full of death and it feels that way with no living players farming around.

For general PvE, yes Orr is bland and very annoying. I don’t get the negativity toward the temples though. My guild does them almost daily for the chest and rewards.
Some can take less time and are far less tedious than the Claw of Jormag event.
I read this as “Is Orr now obese?”
of course, being an undead from the sea would certainly make you a bloated corpse
Orr is not obsolete entirely as you may want to complete the map if you are a completionist. It is no longer a place to play and socialize as it once was. Anet began a series of improvements in February that largely emptied the place. You’ll find the crowds at the world events. You can find the timers for your server at http://us.gw2stuff.com/
Yes. We’re, ironically, back where we were 4 or 5 months ago. Since you’ve left they’re redesigned a lot of Orr, and for a while it was quite a nice place. However it seems like we were having too much fun and ANet has since overnerfed the whole kitten place again, with the end result being that, once again, no reason to bother with it.
You’d figure they would have learned the first time around, but alas…

I felt the same way, when they killed off Orr I started jumping from meta to meta also, but it gets boring after awhile, and I hate farming CoF, now I do WvW all day, but the skill lag there can be unbearable sometimes when 2 big groups clash and Anet asks us for our info? this is a server issue and they know it, and if they don’t start fixing all the server problems soon one of the games coming out soon will fix a lot of their problems…
Välkyri – 80 Warrior
JQ[Lulz] – Kill fur Thrillz…
as you can see from posts above me, the farmers have left Orr.
This makes it a much more pleasant place to be in and do events around than it used to be. The people who are still in Orr are people who enjoy the content there. Enough to get events going, and even some major group zerg moments – but not crowds, and not the rude attitudes you will find at dragon timers and CoF.
ORR IS NOW MY FAVORITE AREA OF THE GAME TO PLAY IN.
- The community there has improved greatly with the removal of the farmers.
(Sadly farmers still permeate Arah Explorable, so that is an unpleasant experience.)

Yes, Orr is obsolete.
Anet did, in few weeks:
-taken away drops from some kind of (numerous) mobs. They simply don’t drop anything.
-increased exponentially respawn time of main “farming-events”
in order to push ppl to Southsun (now a ghost town again).
Add in the changes made in the course of first half of year to put some hold to farming profits, and it’s done.
Atm the only things worthy to do in Orr are gathering (oric/ancient/omnomberry) and temple events due to final chest + daily reward.
Which means more or less that farming in the world atm is restricted to meta event farm – everything else is gone, if you don’t want to farm CoF P1….

Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
I don’t know if obsolete would be the right term for it.
It is certainly less populated. And nobody, I mean nobody goes to Malchor’s Leap or Straits of Devastation. Which I find a shame.
I wish I knew what Anet was trying to accomplish in Cursed Shore…
As I see it, over the past several months we saw a series of nerfs. Lots of champs with mega hit points, vet spiders that dropped no loot, etc. Then they drove a stake through its heart with a massive increase in the time lag between events spawning.
Then, about 2 or 3 weeks ago things picked up for a while. Events spawned regularly and the impossibly tough/no loot mobs spawned very rarely. It became a good place to hang out again.
Now, as in the past few days, it seems to be back to having the huge delays between events. And it is again more or less a ghost town. I have no idea what the motivation is for the constant changes, but it almost seems like Anet is trying to annoy people and kill the game.

Yes, that must be the reason…

The last (and most harsh) round of changes has been made to push farmers from Orr to SouthSun Cove during the Living Story event.
Which means, yes, killing a permanent content to push players in farming a temporary one.
Regardless of profits – SSC during event was prolly more profitable than “decent” CS – the issue is that SouthSun event ended, farming spots closed, and now is a ghost town again.
Only that to push ppl in that, they ruined CS making it empyt kitten.

Yeah, its really sad what they did to Orr. Yes, I loved farming events there. I did it because I liked it and it was a clear path to my legendary. But you know what? I could not do it all day long like others could…meaning I would supplement my farming with buying gems for gold to speed up the process. Since they have destroyed Orr guess how much I have spent in the gem store…ZERO.
Now I spend my money in league of legends of all things.
I would gladly spend my money on gems again if I could also have a clear path of farming T6 mats myself. I am still VERY close to finishing my legendary but if I can play the way I want and work towards my legendary the way I chose…Anet/NCSoft will not receive my time or my money.
Orr has become obsolete because it was nerfed; mobs and dynamic events. Orr was perfect back in October.
as you can see from posts above me, the farmers have left Orr.

the people who only come to do temple events then leave?

Some servers run temples. Mine doesn’t, so its pretty bad. Even the two initial outposts everyone used to run the events back and forth are very rarely ever taken (usually I end up doing this in my pass by for gathering if I bother to care).
In reality it seems to be going, if you are just looking for money, its much easier to do a chain of the low level bosses get some guaranteed rares and call it a day (and CoF if you want some more money).
Its really a shame though, I quite liked Orr. Especially liked it when they first kind of “nerfed” the place and lowered the spawn (which wasn’t entirely necessary, but made it more enjoyable) and when they added the bosses to the events, there was still enough people usually to make it possible then. I understand why they had to mess with the event timers and stuff, but meh, its just kind of sad to see it super dead. Its like whatever disease caused Straits and Malchor to be deserted spread to Cursed Shores. :/
Ive noticed a big migration away from ORR just recently. There have been a few things that have effected this, but surprisingly it seems the farming nerfs are what had the biggest effect.
the whole game is obsolete, 0 new PERMANENT content
the whole game is obsolete, 0 new PERMANENT content
This doesn’t make a game obsolete. It may be something you don’t like, but clearly a lot of people are enjoying it. I don’t know about your server but every patch day, I end up on overflows. Someone must be playing the content and probably some of those people are enjoying it.
Maybe some people feel that leaving content around to get stale, so it can sit there unplayed, is a good idea. I know from experience how much old content gets played in other games. So if Anet left everything in, a year down the road, you’d just have a bloated game, most of which would be ignored by the player base.
Leaving everything in would bloat this game needlessly.
Nothing in the open world was added to replace Orr, except south sun. If you hated Orr, I can’t imagine you’d like southsun much better – the mobs are worse, the DEs are harder, and it is quite literally empty 90% of the time. There is currently no open world lvl 80 zone that people frequent regularly – “end game” consists of loading up dragon timer and porting around to the world bosses to hit 1 and afk. Then do dailies, then farm COF. Rinse and repeat for 6 months till you get your legendary.
