Is Overflow...."temporary" in GW2?
It will always be a thing, because everyone’s either standing in LA idling, or they’re running Fractals.
Which is a shame. The devs made this big beautiful world….and then funneled everyone into LA to run their big new dungeon. Even if they do make improvements to the PvE world, I’m not sure it’ll convince people to leave the Fractals.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

It will for a time, because people will want that new acended gear in order to run higher level fractals ;P

Are you sure? Sorry to compare to WoW because it bothers some people, but why can’t GW2 just expand servers in the long run? I mean obviously as the game improves more people will be hurdling in as well little by little and Overflow will be the new home server.

For a time? Meaning not forever/part of the game?

Because WoW can afford to do that since they charge monthly. GW2 can’t because they don’t. They would have to make enough money from just the initial sale of the game to pay all of its employees, reinvest in development of new content, and making sure the current servers stay functioning.
Actually thinking about it now Overflow might not be needed anymore with guesting coming around.
lv80 Necromancer, all professional skills unlocked, working on the final norn elite skills.
I’m a huge fan of the overflow server in LA; it’s nice to have that overlap and common connection/meeting ground for everyone who plays.
It’s also great for getting groups. Aside from gw2lfg.com, it’s really the only effective way to find them.
Plus, server side LA is dead.

Overflow is a good thing when it comes to fractals – it’s the only way to team up with people from other servers.

… seriously doubt it. Guesting will probably be done from the main menu before you even join with a character – not something you do “ingame” in a jiffy. So people wont do use it to replace overflows.
“Overflows” isnt going away, its a good system. The only flaw in GW2 is that its one way (ie queueing to your server), unlike other games using similar designs where you can choose what server instance to go to and even see player counts.
True. I guess it won’t go away any time soon, I’m just impatient xD
I personally don’t go to Lion’s Arch anymore than necessary. The only thing I really use it for is to cut down on travel costs – for everything else I go to Rata Sum.
I dislike and like the overflow. It has its cons like not being on the same server as your guildies and not bumping into them and some language barriers at times. However, imagine all of the people on your server currently being in LA being loaded on your screen. I expect it would be really busy and crowded. I like how that is not the case and you can actually see and talk to NPCs. It is lively in the trading/crafting area without it being too crowded.
