The problem: enemies take long time to kill with single player, even when making itemization choices that favor maximizing damage potential.

I was in Dredgehaunt Cliffs with level 44 Mesmer, trying to get a skill point at Theign Spiritwalk. The area is full of Jotun, but my character was appropriate level for that content. My equipment levels were 26m/35m/39f/32m/40m/43f for armor (m stands for masterword, f for fine). Accessories, rings and amulets were all level 35 masterwork. My weapon was level 35 masterwork greatsword with minor rune of bloodlust.

I was killing these Jotun so slowly that when I had killed three of them, the first one that I killed had already respawned. This leads me to believe that the PvE is really meant to be played with a small group. Small group has enough damage to kill enemies, but alone it’s slow and tedious. The problem is obviously that the size of the world doesn’t match size of player base on most servers.

Honestly, I think that you may not be setting yourself up properly to solo with that class. Don’t get me wrong, it can absolutely be done, but that is a hard class to solo if you aren’t prepared. Mesmer = Super Power in the right hands. You havent posted anything about your build so we cant really help you there.

Can you link your build and what stats you are stacking? Telling us what level your gear is doesn’t really give us any information whatsoever, and leveling speed is determined 95% by your traits, especially on mesmer.

^Not true. Sure they may not be able to do massive amounts of damage in the conventional aspect but they have they have the ability to condition damage you to death pretty easily.

good luck doing that when your clones die instantly and it takes around 30 seconds or more to get all 3 illusions up

meanwhile i’ve killed 5 mobs on a guardian with Binding Blade, Symbol of Judgement and Whirling Wrath.

Mesmer in PvE is pure suffering levelling alone because you have no real direct damage.

Heck, with any class in that area ( soloing a warrior thru there myself) ..especially with the way the dredge spawn and swarm a solo player( 2 of them beating on you while a 3rd shoots you from a distance?)…I think a group would be far better.

Though, in my case…part of my problems are that I’m level 44 and the mobs are 48-49. Can handle them on on one….but much more than that and I’m dead over and over. Very challenging though.

I’ve been having trouble in Dredgehaunt Cliffs with the respawn rate too on my scepter/dagger Ele. I’m able to burst down mobs pretty quickly, but things just respawn so fast. Once I hit 45 I moved to Sparkfly Fen to level and have been doing much better.

It’s more fun in a duo/trio.

The intent of the game design is you can go 1-80 without ever joining a party.

Mesmers had their abilities “toned down” a bit because they remain over-powered 1v1 in spvp and have the best utility in both spvp and wvw. They can stay alive forever and manage with groups of mobs, but it takes a while to kill things.

Bring a warrior to party and mobs will be dead very fast.
