So I’ve been focusing on pvp for a few months, then started working on another legendary and ran out of karma, and I heard the silverwastes was the best farm for obsidian shards. I believe I heard you do chest runs with bandit keys, but since I never got into the whole SW farm not sure how it compares to just doing the events for luminescent gear etc.

If I could get an explanation that would be great. Did half of one run, about 15 chests, and I would get sometimes 3 bandit crests a chest, seeing how a key is 5 I was kind of confused, seems like a loss, especially since not every chest drops crests. I did get 3 obi shards from 1 though, so maybe its rng but theoritically could be better than just trading crests for shards.

Sorry if its an old topic, read a similar forum post but all the posts were several months old, and they kept saying enjoy it b4 it gets nerfed, so not sure if it got nerfed and still worth it.

after two weeks of “casual” SW farming i had so many obi shards that i actually needed to toss a stack of 250 out of my bank and my crafting tab holds 500 units per stack…so do with that what you want.

The right way to farm obsidian shards in SW is to actively participate in events until you have 3-4 stacks of crests, then buy 50 keys, get on a chest train and replenish keys every time you pass through the main camp. The chest train itself is not self-sufficient for crests. If you go to SW expecting to just stay on a chest train forever without gathering crests from events, you’ll be disappointed.

The positive is that doing the full event chain through Vinewrath and Hidden Depths is fantastic loot.

thanks everyone. Just curious what do you mean by casual bc that means different things to different people. Like 1-3 hours a day? 30min? Very thankful for the answers and glad I didn’t miss out on the farm.

well usually i just did the vinewrath run with fortress defence followed by the chestrun that usually happens right after the wrath and then jumping to the next instance to repeat the progress…or stayed if the people wanted to go for another wrath. Did that 2 to 3 times a day and now i got so many obi shards that i dont even know anymore what else to do with them. Actually.. now that i talk about it i sorta think i should start doing that again.

also the time varies at the SW stuff.. but you can count for 30-45 mins depending on how the people work together and protect the forts and fight the wrath and stuff

yes… definitely.

Anyone who disagrees that SW is the best way to get obby shards is either in denial or has no idea what they are talking about.

Probably play a map that gets to vinewrath, complete it, buy keys, and join a chest farming map. Also note that you’re earning karma in the process from silverwastes events which you can use to buy obsidian shards from Balthazar temple if you want the process to be even faster. If you’re not rushing it, doing this once per play session while farming all the other legendary stuff should get you enough.

I’d also recommend trying to kill tequatl once per day, as it rewards a lot of karma. If you haven’t don’t it in a while, don’t worry. It’s fairly easy now with a pretty low failure rate (I’ve only seen two fails in the last 6 months or longer). Join a map from lfg 10-15 minutes before he spawns and you should be good.

Yeah I just did a few runs and got about 30 shards or so and 100 of those nice loot bags. Just curious these people who claim to make several hundred gold doing this, is that farming all day or several days or just a few runs? lol. Also to make that much i’m assuming they selling golds/exotics if above the ecto rate but are they selling greens and such too or just salvaging for mats/luck? I’m assuming sell the greens bc that’s a lot of gold.

I needed to get 1000 crests to buy an ascended accessory from the vendor…

I had just spent all of my money on tormented weapon skins and had less than a gold when I started farming.

In the time it took me to get those 1,000 crests, I had 14g cash in my inventory.
(I’ve been selling my blues and greens since I have no need to salvage for luck essences)

The accessory cost 10g + 1,000 crests and like a kitten, I bought the wrong one.
(i bought an amulet instead of an earring)

I had 4g in my inventory after the purchase.

So i farmed another 1,000 crests and when I finished I ended up with 21g in my inventory….. bought the earring for 10g and 1,000 crests…

and when I went to check the bank, I found I had also earned over 60g in t5+t6 mats ectos (from salvaging rares) and charged cores (from the champ bags).

This was about 4 hours of farming total. for about 90g

I got 1k shards from chest train along with a ton of other loot. So yeah SW is your best bet if you’re out of karma.
