As the title says, is there any way to get into one of the lower populated ‘overflows’?

Ive tried Logging in and out, but it brings me back to the same one, so would changing map work?

Would guesting to a lower populated server work? (I’m from Piken)

(skip-able, personal opinion)I’m not sure how much longer I can play, I play PvE for the story, Hearts and Events, but with this new Megaserver it just isn’t fun anymore. There’s too many people even on small Events and the Events don’t scale no where near good enough, if at all. It’s got to the point were the only attack worth using is auto-attack because enemies are dieing so fast (some people can kill them in 1 or 2 hits) that you’re lucky to event get credit for a kill. On my Ranger with the Longbow for example, it’s not worth using Barrage as plenty of times when I’ve gone to use it 3 out of the 5 mobs that were approaching are already dead by the time it casts.

I s’pose it feels worse to me as being from Piken I was used to uncrowded area’s. But I think this pushes it to the extreme, (not only for me but for new comers as well, I’ve seen low level people just not being able to get credit for kills). What was once fun has now become a simple game of tapping the ‘1’ key, there’s no need to dodge, there’s no need to heal, there’s no need to do anything and any difficulty there was is now gone.

So I’m looking for ways to be put into the ‘overflows’, so if you’ve any idea’s I’d appreciate hearing them.

Thanks

Honestly the only answer I have for you is…..Luck.
Getting lucky is probably the only option for this problem, kind of the same on the other end of trying to get on a mega-server with enough competent people to do Teq.
And, if I’m really honest about it, your issue is probably one that really wasn’t considered but I kind of sit on the fence on this. I’m from Kaineng which was a relatively low pop server and was so used to almost challenging leveling, but now having all of these people are great, but sometimes I miss the low pops.

Hey there, Piken neighbour! I also liked my home server a lot for it being “moderately high” population – enough to make most events which were worth it successful but in most cases not overcrowded and not overflowed (except for LS in peak hours). I could solo some things and zerg some things – but there was a balance for both, especially since I main a mesmer and tagging [invulnerable] mobs in large groups requires extreme timing.

Now I always get mixed in with some random Spanish, French and German players with their filters on and talking about their own business… I do not like feeling like I’m always in EoTM with a zerg from some other countries who do not even care if I’m here or not, if I can tag the mobs or not. It got more lonely than before. And heck, I’m missing some of my favourite world boss neigbours I never talked to but got used to, like that Italian fuchsia sylvari ranger with The Emperor title

What you don’t understand, is that technically every map is now an overflow. Think of the way overflows used to work. Now every map is like that without the standard map existing underneath.

Because when people complained about overflows, Anet took that to mean, get rid of server maps, make all things overflow!!!!

NO, overflows don’t exist.

That’s why I wrote ‘overflows’, I mean the next lower populated server to open up.

People below know what I mean.

I was hoping that wouldn’t be the answer lol.

I’m not against them, I know I have to roll with the punches, but it now just seems well too many. I play GW2 with my girlfriend and as you say it can be challenging, (pull enough of the mobs and don’t just take one at a time, go for champs, and do Events, they’re not mega-hard but fun and one false move could lead to death).

Hey, another Pikenese

Yeah, the population seemed good how it was, there was the odd time when there was nobody about to help with an event but that was few and far between. As I mentioned above, I play with my GF, (which helps a lot with champs, Events etc having an extra ‘sword’) but there was always people near by even in the early morning if an event was well too hard for us. There was a real challenge and it was fun, exhilarating even, when only 3, 4 or 5 of you take a champ out by the skin of you tail lol.

If anything with the amount of people now it seems less likely to meet new people, (maybe not, but it seemed that way) as you’re just one of the crowd. With the old system there was plenty of times someone would just tag along with us, or join us while we cause havoc, or even just have a friendly chat.

There’s some people on the forum saying they are seeing more Events they have never seen with the new Mega servers, well sorry but that means you didn’t explore the game enough in the first place. I’ve seen it loads of times, in an event chain, (escort troops to area ‘A’ so then they can assault area ‘B’) people follow the first event, but then leave and not wait for the next event to start. I haven’t seen any new events yet but I guess that’s because I explored more, so if that’s one of the positives of MS it’s only because of their inattention.

Fill your bathtub up, to as full as it can go without getting into it. Then submerge your body. You should now be in an overflow.

Real answer: There are no overflows anymore. They are now called Megaservers, and you are always in a Megaserver.

Yeah does seem that way. I just want to be able to get in the newer created ‘overflow’/server

It really does feel like they’ve took a system that was good and ruined it. Yeah it wasn’t perfect but surely it was better than this.

So many different types of groups of people have been affected by this change. Server groups feel they’re lost their community, RP’ers (which I’m not one of) have lost their sense of community (and their town clothes) Boss zerg groupies (lol) complain of low frame rates etc, Europeans have been lumped together even with so many differing languages, waypoints now take two loading screens and people are complaining about overfilled maps, the traits people now feel like it’s more grindy and also the now increased cost of under-80 transmutation. Instead of rolling it out slow as they implied they would, they just (it feels) steamrolled ahead without listening to peoples legitimate grievances.

Well it’s called a Megaflow….because it’s pretty much an expanded overflow.

But yes, once one megaserver is full, you will be moved to another less populated one. I was “taxi’d” over by a friend in need to clear Grenth on a less populated Cursed Shore, all you need to do is click Join in Cursed Shore or whatever map you’re in.

Something else I’ve just found.

There’s a guy you talk to in Fort Salma (Kessex Hills) who asks you to go kill centaur generals in Overlords great camp(to the south). Thing is, it’s miles away and with the zerg you won’t get there in time to kill them.

I was heading south to north, so I was near the camp first, within the space of about 5 minutes they (the generals) spawned twice, there was already a zerg there and we finished so fast that whoever started the quest would not have been able to get there in time to even participate in the event (I only found out afterwards when I continued working my way north that he was the quest giver).

I hope there isn’t many quests like this throughout the maps because it doesn’t work well with so many people in the zones.

By partying with someone, there is a possibility that you will be directed to the same map instance that your party member(s) is/are in.

Im from Piken too and i honestly disliked server population here.Perhaps its cause lots of people there were Rpers that do nothing but world map was really empty and dead and i wanted to change server asap.Megaserver fixed this for me and i love it now.I love lots of people doing stuff toghether. You might dont like it but think about it.You will finish all your “hearts” and stuff in like 10 days and then it wont matter to you anymore. All that will be left after that is dead world that is not good.I didnt much explored every map under megaserver but from what i seen and what you wrote here..that is great news for me and i like it.Too bad not every1 can feel the same.

Well if you enjoy only being able to use auto-attack, not having to heal, dodge or buff/debuff then good for you, but this ruins the game for me as now it’s just a simple boring game. I have thought about it, with so many people around that you only have to tap one button, struggling to get kills, it’s changed what was fun about it.

Also I don’t think you will level up faster, with the amount of people doing even small events you will be missing out on EXP because you won’t be killing as many mobs and also might struggle to get gold or even silver.

If you didn’t like Piken and felt it was empty then you had the chance of guesting to a more populated server.

No more overflows. Technically speaking, ALL zones are now what overflows used to be so you are already there.

Shameless plug for adding districts/channels (so that people can choose the ‘overflow’ they are in).

What they should do is see how many “overflows” that each map has on average. Take the one with the largest average.

Add 2 to that number and make that the number of districts.

The game uses the same formula when you enter each map to stick you and your party into a district (with high preference given to the district that you were on on the previous map).

Districts would also come with population markers (high, medium, low, full, etc). So that players who want a certain level of activity know what they are getting into.

This would also help with RP as one of the districts would likely become the RP district.

However, Lion’s Arch and the racial cities should have a “Home Server” district. Players are automatically just put into that district when they load into it unless it’s full. This can be used to discuss WvW strategy and recruit for WvW guilds. Or guilds that want to maintain single server members.
