I’ve noticed that many professions are pigeon holed into playing a certain role, whether it be PvE or PvP. As a guardian, all I’m expected to bring is dps. Rangers are expected to play as druids and heal. Warriors need to bring banners or be geared for condition damage. There are many expectations for each profession. This thought came from my observation of what is viable.

I don’t feel there’s a lot of diversity in GW2. I haven’t had a thief once in any of my raiding squads. I can’t remember the last time someone wanted to bring a warrior into a PvP team.

What do you all think? Is there diversity?

No game is perfect, and not all builds are equally useful in all game modes. So long as things stay fairly balanced overall, I think it’s okay.

Raids will unbalance this a bit, that can’t be helped. You have limited people, limited time, and narrow conditions for victory. People need to bring their “best” for that, whatever their “best” is in that case. With luck, they’ll change the mechanics of the raids as they go, so each raid has different requirements. Thieves may not be wanted in the first raid, but they might be considered “must have” in the second, for example.

Balancing seems to be a hard thing to tackle in this game sometimes. I’m just glad “Zerk or GTFO” isn’t a big thing anymore. Took them forever to make things like conditions a desirable thing to have around.

Is there diversity in other games where you are healer, dps or tank? What sort of diversity are you asking for? Are you asking for each profession do be able to gear up for and do multiple things equally well, like a healing warrior for example?

What sort of diversity is even possible in this game? Off hand I can think of healing, dps, tanking and condition damage. Currently some classes are simply not going to be able to do some things (tank thief comes to mind) because they’re designed to be strong in evasion and agility and would need a redesign to be able to tank.

I think it’s too early in the elite specialization history to be asking for a lot of diversity. Previously the only true role was straight dps. The new elites are bringing in diversity, such as healing for rangers and condition engineers, but expecting to see a wider range than is currently availble is expecting too much too soon.

Be careful what you ask for

There is diversity, I don’t think there’s requirements for classes classes, I think there’s roles requirements, how you implement them is kinda up to you. (For example ele can be tank/healer/condi/support/dps)

lol? really? I never had any problem playing what I wanted to on any class…
My trapper ranger is a condition powerhouse. I see lots of dps druids. etc. etc. people don’t complain about your build nearly as much as they did before HoT.
you very rarely see “zerker” lfg’s any more or any other specific lfg’s either. I honestly think its You who expect specifics from classes rather than other people :P
