Dead or not?

There has been no official word on this – granted, we see his body fall from the sky, but we don’t see it officially land and there are areas of Orr that are unopened.

What is going on with this?

We fight him in the future.

My ridiculously curious nature is dying for an official response. =P Does he actually say that “he will be back”?

This won’t end this discussion, but people exploring Arah found the body of Zhaitan. It a lot of work apparently to found it (since your not suppose to go there), but they posted picture of it. But even there, other people still saying that he could only be asleep, waiting the right time to wake up.

Thats there due to how animation scripting works. Maybe someone who has actual knowledge about this can explain it more detailed, but its not an actual “corpse”.

zhaitan was defeated, none mentioned he died. I still remember Zojja saying: “Dragon is down, I repeat, dragon is down”

If zhaitan is still alive then the whole personal story becomes pointless right?

He’s the death dragon. I’m not sure KILLING him is the way to beat him, and that’s all we’ve (supposedly) done.

Now that he’s down, someone needs to contain him, and keep his power from regrowing.

The Elder Dragons don’t ever really die, they just go dormant and wait to rise again. They’re the Guild Wars version of Cthulhu. At least that’s the way I read the lore. You knock them down and nobody worries about them for a few dozen generations, then they come roaring back again. My guess would be that they either get forced back in to hibernation, or they fall dormant naturally once they’ve consumed all of the magic on the planet. Over the years the magic builds back up again, until it hits a high enough threshold to awaken them again.

The first time I saw Zhaitan, I thought of this.

In an interview, the devs stated they regretted killing off Abaddon due to te finality of the situation left to them.

I doubt they will ever say if Zhaitan is dead or not unless he actually does “reawake”

Defeated, yes.
