Yes. I’m avoiding/boycotting ascended gear indefinitely.
Why? I feel that it wasn’t necessary and goes against original game design. It’s a personal choice. I will play the game the way I would like to see it.

I am too actually. It’s ridiculous. I’m never doing dungeons and I don’t do WvW so there’s no need for me to put myself thru that. It’s painful enough right now gearing alts without having to jump in the gem store for gold.

Personally, it seems like an “oh kitten” addition when they realised people were getting to legendaries too fast.

Fractals are cool, but did they need to have an added gear tier to emphasise that? I don’t think so.
I’m not going for ascended because I don’t really want to churn my way through endless fractals, diminishing personal fun factor to increase the “gear factor”.
Even when it gets added to the rest of the game, I have a strong feeling it’ll aslo be through somewhat lesser fun-factors.

The rest of the game is fine by me.

If you dont do fractals then its plainly obvious you dont need Ascended gear, simple.

On the other hand if you can get Ascended gear without doing fractals, i.e. the new dailys, and the ascended stats are better than what you have, why not?

No. I would not get the ascended gear if there were other methods of acquisition.

Heck, whenever I get a Rare drop I feel like “Oh, it’s got to be a bug! Should I report it?”

So… yeah. I’ve not done the fractal thing aside from a few laughable solo attempts, so I currently don’t have any of the currently available ascended gear. Based on how things have been thus far, I doubt the new ways to acquire ascended gear will be any more fun/viable for me, and so I suspect there won’t be any ascended gear in my indefinite future – even if I wanted it. Still don’t have full exotic on my level 80 thief…

well you need Ascended for agony ressist if you intend on leveling fractals, which believe it or not, some find FUN, me included.

I run fractals pretty casually, and I have 11 ascended rings (and enough pristines to buy two more), and I purchased and upgraded an ascended back piece. The stuff is stupidly easy to get. Plus, they stated the gear was in the game’s original plan and should have been released at launch. If it had been released at launch, you wouldn’t see half the whining about it as you do now. People inexplicably think that a tier of gear being added a little late is suddenly a gear treadmill.

Agony resistance aside, ascended gear has more stat points than exotic.

Many people enjoy the game using yellow, green or even blue gear – there is no reason why you should not be able to play without using the pink stuff.

You are only holding yourself (and your party) back. It will not affect Anet or most other players.

Yeah keep boycotting Ascended gear. You sure are showing me how justified you are by holding your party back with inferior stats.

I haven’t been so much boycotting ascended gear but waiting for this patch, that’ll make it easier to get groups for Fractials. I also recently changed the character I ‘consider a main’ so, there’s catching up my guardian to the fractal level my elementalist was at too. I’ll do ascended gear as it becomes more relevant to my gameplay.

I avoid instanced stuff…never liked it and never will.
But still have ascended stuff.

I have always avoided Ascended gear just cause I don’t like being gated into content and forced to do something over and over just to be on equal ground. And I hate RNG.

But with Ascended items becoming available through achievements, I might actually get them now.

The frustrating part is, the one piece of Ascended gear that I actually wanted, I still have to do Fractals for. So to me, this patch didn’t help at all in that sense. I want a Quiver for my Ranger. But in order to get that Quiver, I have to farm Fractals. Which I will never do for reason stated above.

I mean they finally give us new back skins, and then force us to do Fractals to get them. If I could get a Quiver any other way, I wouldn’t care. But I can’t.

Its a very small pop. that is doing this most of the players have ascended gear or are trying to get it. After the update you will see even more get ascended gear. I hate to be the one to tell you this but even on these forms not too many ppl are going out of there way to avoid ascended gear if any thing the ones whom are doing this are talking a lot on the same forms making them feel like there are a lot of them.

I’m not avoidiing it. It just never enters my thought processes when playing. Too many alts, too little spare time.

Maybe once I have all 8 professions to 80 and geared into exotics (3 lvl 80’s currently)….and all the tradeskills mastered? maybe then I’ll consider ascended.

I honestly don’t see the logic in avoiding it, for the sake of protest, do you really think Anet are going to notice a small minority not wearing ascended or even care?

I will get my ascended gear through the mystic forge and anything that DOESNT involve instanced zones (gimme zerg farm, you can take your clique elsewhere tyvmkthxbai)

so unless agony resistance becomes 100% required to do any of the above, the ascended stuff hasn’t even made it to the stove top yet… and that person who was wanting a quiver, check gw2 wiki… I recall seeing a recipe to make one that doesn’t involve unfathomable numbers of fractal runs to get it, though i also recall it needed 250 powerful blood—-pick your poison

I actually like the acended gear, love the fractals back item/ it’s just nice to have more content to grind for.

I think that agony would be added in with other elements of the game at some point or other infusion for new condidions or something, i doubt that acended gear will be a fractals only ‘must have’ in the near future.

I would like to see more acended gear thats actually like armor and is visable to other players.

besides, it’s nice to have gear that you can’t just buy off the trader. i feel more of a sence of achevement with these iteams compared to most other accessories.

barely touched fractals… but the only reason i care about ascended gear is the back skins/unobtainable stat combos in other trinkets (mainly rabid)

Fractals is the most boringest thing i have ever done i literally fell asleep. So no ascended gear for me.

Nope. The thing is – many of us grinded (even if not much) to get BiS items. They’ve run dungeons just for this, spent 40 gold to get full set of Divinity’s runes etc.

Now they need to get 40(+) gold again to get runes again.

I don’t avoid it so much as I haven’t bothered to get it. Since I mostly play WvW, and run Dungeons with guidlies, I have no need for anything higher than Rares. Two of my 80s are in full Exotic from casual play, and one more was in full Exotics until I changed builds. Haven’t bothered to get him more than Rare yet. Lastly, my thief is still in Masterwork. Apothecary is pricey.

I’ll get Ascended eventually. I’ve done plenty of Fractals, I just haven’t bothered to farm them, though my last two runs have peaked my interest. I ended up with 1 Exotic, 9 Rares, a Lodestone, and 2 cores afterwards.

I do not have them, I will never have them. I am not good at dungeons. Especially dungeons made of twinkied-up mobs that spawn at a rate of kittenroaches in a slum kitchen.

I have one character with exotics, several that will probably never get them. I have hit some kind of eternal plateau in my money making. (although I rarely spend money, I run instead of wp, put on whatever “found” armors I get, and run away run away to avoid armor repair costs. My money sits at the same amount it was a month ago.

So no, I do not believe I will be anything other than mediocre in Guild Wars 2.

i avoided it as long as possible but eventually farmed it for a couple weeks because i wanted the extra stats. it was fun at first, but then got annoying as i had to grind for the pristine relics. so, pretty much what i expected from it. i got 2 characters to fractal level 10, and then after that i just did two level 10 runs per day. i will not be going any higher if i don’t have to. i think it’s a good idea to add ascended gear outside fractals.

each fractal stopped being fun at around level 7, at which point most people have played every fractal at least once, and a few of them you’ve played several times. i had a weird twist of luck where i never got a volcanic fractal until level 9. at that point, i remember i was glad to finally get it because i was bored of the others.

I don’t exactly avoid ascended gear. I like it. And I hope I get some eventually.

But I would not bend backwards for it. If I can get some for laurels, it’s fine. If not: exotic is good enough for my purposes.

I’ve done that several times, even after Ascended gear was introduced. Is the problem that you guys got a set of gear, and then thought you would never have to change that gear ever again? This sort of thinking is where I fail to understand most GW1 players (not saying you’re one). I never did play that game, and I don’t understand that mindset.

Thanks, but I checked the Wiki on that. All the Quivers require a Vial of Condensed Mists Essence.

Which in turn, can only be obtained via Fractals. So I still have to do Fractals if I want a Quiver skin.

I’m all for them, as long as I don’t have to do fractals for them
