Is anyone else irritated by this?
Didn’t you make this same thread a few days ago?
Maybe it will be addressed in one of the upcoming patches. It doesn’t bother me that much. Would be nice, but so would lots of other things.
Indeed, but it was in a part of the forum that doesn’t seem to be frequented by players – the email that I got back when I tried submitting feedback directly suggested that they prefer suggestions be discussed in the forum before they look into it. So, I figured I would prompt people to discuss in the Discussion section.
It would be nice if it were patched, but this has been brought up before back at almost day one. It seems unlikely that it will change unless we push for it.
It seems like a lot of gaming companies are fumbling with privacy issues. Steam will automatically update your last log-in even if you use their invisible mode. Blizzard doesn’t even have an invisible mode for battlenet. It’s like there’s this trend where you can’t play a game without it being announced to everyone, and I’m definitely not a fan. I’d like to see Anet put in a system similar to what they had for GW1 that allowed you to play with some relative privacy when you wanted to.

I mostly have the problem that if you set yourself to “offline”, you cannot chat in guild chat anymore. I sometimes set myself offline because I don’t want to be whispered by anybody (especially when in a rather busy map chat, when I disagree with something that is loudly pronounced over map chat). Blocking somebody means you also won’t see that person in map chat, and that’s something I don’t like. So, offline it is. However, guild chat is turned off then too (“You’re not in a guild”).
And that’s highly annoying because sometimes I’m mostly AFK (or rather, not really playing the game, but checking looks, aka spam chat codes), thus in no mood to chat normally. And I like to spam those chat codes in my own guild (so not to annoy my guild mates). But, “You’re not in a guild”….
