Is balm an exploit?
Is balm an exploit?
You give us a consumable which transforms ambient creatures into Trick or Treat bags, then for the FIRST instance, you throw at us 30 or so ambient creatures.
Essentially, I am making about 60s every minute. Possibly a bit less, but still around that ballpark.
I understand ArenaNet isn’t responsible for the prices players set, but is this intended? The way things are set up kinda points me in that direction, but I’m not sure.
What’s up, ArenaNet? Is this an exploit, or not?
It’s a maximum of 3 targets per toss so making it 9 per balm.
More specific questions:
> Is it an exploit to spam an instance and use it?
> Is it an exploit to use it in open world areas with large clusters of ambient foes?
If it is an exploit, then Anet’s going to close and delete this thread from the history of GW2 that’s been meticulously hammered into the great stone tombs under their offices by their 200 allegedly missing employees not working on Living story. Then the 100 people that do work on the living story are going to have to cut Christmas content and spend time to fix this problem (Taimi wont get her presents now. I hope you’re happy you monster!!!) . That should happen by morning when they wake up.
If the threads still here, then maybe its not an exploit? still wont know….We can’t talk about exploits on the forums so I cannot say if it is or isn’t, instead (betting it is)

Definitely not an exploit, you aren’t taking advantage of any bugs in the game. They would’ve foreseen people using this on a mass amount of ambient creatures.
But just in case it somehow is, don’t take my word for it.
I personally tested it and I think it falls under the “too good to be true” category and therefor is an exploit.

Intentionally failing the first story instance to farm ambient mobs over and over again… aaaaa…….. Dejà vu…
please fix this ANet its getting ridiculous. Making so much money with no effort is not cool.

You don’t fail it you just teleport/log out and reenter it.

What are these mobs dropping that’s so valuable? Halloween mats?

I’m also half amazed half scared of this. Honestly I hope they don’t go around and call it an exploit.
Either way – an official response would be great!

Of course you do man, these people do it over and over and over again, stop sugarcoating this bullkitten.

I already said that I think this is an exploit, lol.

Well in this case you make over 1g every run. And 1 run takes about 1 minute or less.

Well… I’m turning some bugs into candy corn… they probably won’t thank me for it :p
I’d consider this an exploit – you are exploiting what seems to be an oversight, because in no way should such gold gain in an unrevisitable instance be intended or acceptable. That would be just terrible design.
I would also be careful with that.
I can imagine they added the ambient creatures as a little bait for trying out the balm. But for sure they don’t want you to generate profit from thin air by failing/logging out early in an otherwise unrepeatable instance to farm them all over again. This has “exploit” written all over it.
This wouldn’t had happen if they had PTR, remember 4 gambit dead eye farming.
What about if you use it in the open world? And not use an instance at all? !

That seems to be the intentional use of the balm. I highly doubt that the trick-or-treat bags dropping from the elementals were not intentional – hence the time gate on crafting the balm.
It’s just circumventing the game mechanics in order to repeat and farm an instance infinitely that could make it an exploit. We will never know unless we get an official response though…
actually not a exploit since u get hit with diminishing return.
actually not a exploit since u get hit with diminishing return.
So did the ones farming linen in Iron Marches while exploiting infinite mob spawns, and this was also officially considered an exploit and many were banned for it… DR has nothing to do with it.
I’d rather be on the safe side and just not farm in the instance. It’s just “too good to be true” – which is the only official measurement we have for “exploit or not”…

I think this is like problem with queens gauntlet arenas, it was not exploit, buut it was not intended also.. i think they gonna fix this anytime soon too good to be true
interesting.. i love the gw2 community
it took me, not even 5 minutes to find someone exploiting this..
and also, someone griefing those players. . .
price is going up fast
yep, this thread successfully wasted a half hour of my life
arena net, hire this man..
The only way this is profitable, it’s because of the value the players give to Trick or Treat Bags.
There are a lot of other spots that enable you to “farm” critters. This one only appears to be the most effective; so I don’t think it’s an exploit at all.
Just because you are making 1 gold per minute doesn’t make it an exploit. It just means 99% of the community hasn’t figured it out and driven the prices down.
It is an exploit. You cannot re enter the instance once you complete it, meaning it was never intended to be run over and over again. This means you are abusing a bug in the system which is the definition of an exploit. Enjoy your permaban.
