Hi i started to play gw2 2-3 weeks back and have a silvary theif at lvl 80 with full exotic gear. I also managed to gather up lots of matz and gold and random stuff over the course of my play.
As of now i am not happy with my choice of race, i wanted to make a new char to 80 maybe a human or norn. But im worried all my things in my silvary might be of no use no more. I am slightly confused as to what all can i transfer over to this new char and what all will i leave behind with it. If its too much i have to leave behind id rather not switch.

All your exotic gear is soul bound and can’t be transferred to another char. If you mouse over it, it will say soul bound. Mats, gold is non bound. Random stuff may be account bound. Mouse over what you aren’t sure of to check.

However, just make a new char and start over. Most people do have multiple level 80s and some with multiples of the same profession.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Account bound is bound to all characters on an account.

Souls bound is bound to just one character.

And yes a ton of stuff is account bound now which fills your bank and inventory up, which is really annoying because it can’t be sold.

Sometimes the only way to get rid od it is to trash it.

Jumping puzzles, love them or hate them, I hate them. Thread killer.

Don’t delete the character until you have a new one leveled. Especially if you are going to play Heart of Thorns expansion, keep the Sylvari. Then you can experience the difference in the story.

If/when the time comes to delete the character strip it first. Salvage exotic armor and trinkets. If you have 4 or more exotic weapons (or 3 and a Mystic Stone) consider putting them in the Mystic Forge (a.k.a. Mystic Toilet). You will get an exotic weapon back that is not bound and if very lucky one with a nice skin. (If that exotic weapon had blue text in the description, do not destroy it!)

Keep the old character, don’t delete it. You’ll be happy the next time you characters birthday comes around.

Gear wise, everything (almost everything) is souldbound to character unless it’s ascended (pink in color) or legendary (purple). I’d recommend trying a new class first, before redoing a class due to race issues. Maybe all it takes is a bit of a break and you’ll feel happy again.

I wouldn’t delete the char, for several reasons. One, just because you don’t want to play a silvari thief now, doesnt mean you won’t want to later. Two, birthday presents. If you delete it you’ll be getting them later. Three, account bound birthday titles will be later if that’s your oldest char. Four, you can use it as a mule for 100 extra inventory slots if you get 20 slot bags. You can also park it at a rich node or a chest for a daily harvest.
