Is it allowed to Multi Client?
I asked this awhile back through the support desk. They said I could run two clients at the same time (if my computer could handle it).
oh my gosh ! i gotta check ur post then, just to be 100% sure :P thanks!
It wasn’t on the support forums. I sent an email to the support desk. If your feeling a little uneasy about it, just send them an email and get a response to have on record.
I think it took a day or two for them to get back to me.
Aah right, I will do that, jut for safety meassures.
I think you will find that running 2 clients is allowed. Though using 3rd party software to control both clients at the same time is not allowed.
THERE IS NO SANITY CLAUSE!
yeah i think and hope so aswell

Multiboxing is very simmilar to botting and 3rd party programming so according to Anet’s policy it is strictly forbidden. Please, refrain from making use of this and report any player you see making use of this.
1 key press to do 1 action on 1 character at a time
im not multiboxing, not playing on 2 accounts on the exact same moment. I just want to run GW2 2x on 1 pc, so i can ALT TAB between them
It falls under the shadow of multi-boxing
Well, I guess only time will tell I’ve send the support staff en email, so, I will find out soon… I hope.
It’s quite easy for them to prevent two clients from running side by side on one machine/OS so if they don’t then they obviously don’t care.

That should be fine. So long as each account receives input separate from the other account, there should be no problem. Right now I run my main account on my Desktop and my alt account on my Laptop right next to it (usually just a few minutes at a time to mail myself stuff when my main account is somewhere inconvenient relative to the bank and auctions, or more often lately so one account can craft and play the market while the other is involved in RP), and since they’re both going through the same router, ANet sees their login IP as identical. I’ve tried running both on the Desktop, and it works fine for about 20 minutes until my computer starts yelling at me. Again, just make sure your actual use of each account stays kosher, and it shouldn’t matter what machine they’re running on.
As long as you aren’t running a 3rd party program/script to keep one character following you around and controlling both characters from a single keyboard simultaneously you shouldn’t have a problem.
Personally I don’t see the problem. Some of my greatest moments in past MMO’s wkittentering training PvPers. Granted my other greatest moments was also being a train and controlling multiple chars (Holy casters in Shadowbane for example).

Incorrect information being given by someone who has no authority on the subject. Please stop quoting such posts. This is the response you receive from contacting CS, the people who actually handle your account:
We cannot condone or support the use of any particular program or sytem for multi-boxing. However, we do not terminate accounts for multi-boxing, as long as — through the process — they do not breach the User Agreement or the Rules of Conduct, both of which you can find linked from this page: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/ If an account is in conformance with the UA and the RoC, we have no objections to dual-boxing or multi-boxing.

Maybe you could add a screenshot of that response, instead of bothering them again with the question. I don’t see any harm in it as long as you use it in the “Alt+Tab”-way only and don’t abuse it by for instance being afk on one account during an event and active on the other to get double rewards.
But then again, why would you need it if you’re not using it for that. Only thing I can think of is party searching in two places at once but you can use GW2LFG.com for that.

EDIT: I see Leablo already got you the verification you need, if Gaile says so you should have no worries They should however really get their team on the same line when it comes to these answers though…

Some uses I’ve found for running two accounts at once:
- Mailing stuff to myself when one guy’s by the auctions or guild bank and the other’s in the middle of nowhere.
- Monitoring map chat in Lion’s Arch or other high traffic areas for interesting activities while the other guy goes out to do daily quests, work map completion, level alts, etc.
- Providing bit-players in Roleplaying events.
- Fiddling with the market on the backup account when the main is involved in something that doesn’t require active combat levels of attention, like a RP scene or casual zone exploration.
- Sending account 2 in as a suicidal decoy to eat a few seconds of Champion aggro while account 1 grabs a skill point (stupidly slow, because account 2 doesn’t have much map completion, and has to walk everywhere).

Pretty much this. Forum moderators are god on the forums, but within the actual game they have as much authority as the secretary that greets people at the front door. The response that was given by that moderator was incomplete, at best. Multiboxing using keycloning software would fit the bill for what they are saying, but someone simply opening 2 windows on 2 monitors and clicking back and forth between them in no way requires 3rd party software to accomplish, and thus does not fit into the realm of that response.
Personally, my rule of thumb is: If your multiboxing requires you to use any software other than two guild wars 2 clients, I would strongly recommend against it. Otherwise, have fun.
I’m curious.. what’s the purpose of running two copies and switching back and forth between the two? The only reasons I can think of all seem pretty sketchy to me.

Well, for one thing you could accomplish 2 tasks at once. Even if it just means having 1 guy in town crafting while the other is running around killing stuff. OR you could have 1 guy heal the other guy. OR one guy “tank” for the other guy.
Coming from EVE online, where dual boxing is a standard among most players (there are less players who don’t dual box than those who do), you get kind of used to it and start to find times where you think “man, sure would be nice to have an alt with me right now…”
This gives it a lot more value yes, although that last reason is kinda on the edge I believe. But how would you accomplish multi-clienting GW2 if I might ask? I only have one account, but I had more GW1 accounts and for that I used: Guild Wars Multi-Launch. Is there a similar program for GW2 out already?

Guild Wars 1 could actually be done without 3rd party software. There were tutorials GuildWarsGuru that showed how to change the process name of a GW1 .exe so that it wouldn’t conflict with itself when launched. That said, it was a pain in the butt and required refreshing after every single update :-P

This…multiboxing is allowed.
Most people say no because they either wish they could themselves but dont have the PC power to do it or they have ran into multi boxers in other MMOs and immediatly without doing research think its wrong (or are jealous)
Anet does not condone it cause they wont take responsibility for any technical issues that may arise…
Its like overclocking….you can do it…but the CPU maker (intel/amd) wont take responsibility for you jacking up your system if you do.

Or maybe they just think it’s wrong because it’s an unfair advantage that goes against the spirit of the game?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Well they did purchase two accounts and anyone can purchase two accounts so as long as you don’t exploit it (with botting for example) there’s no harm in it. Someone could also use two different pc’s to multi-client of which the results would be the same.
Yes it would be mostly the same. I just happen to view that same result as being wrong.
1 player == 1 concurrent character in-game.
Breaking that assertion, regardless of the technical means used to do so, seems like cheating to me.

I’ve searched the web and yet to find a decent Multi-launch program. Is anyone using one and can recommend it?

Why are you necroing this thread? This issue as been debated and answered already. You are not allowed to play more than a single account at the same time. Doing so will risk your accounts for termination, as per the User Agreement.
Risk is minimal from what I’ve seen:

I did it in GW1 I want to do it in GW2. Your answer to my questions is no.

Unfortunately Vol, the thread is from January, and it’s been debated already. But allow me to clarify, as I wasn’t clear in my previous post. My mistake.
Multi boxing to play multiple accounts at the same time isn’t allowed. But if you want to have different accounts logged in at the same time, then yes.

the actual answer is here. it is the forth from the bottom pinned thread in read above.
I might be wrong but why would one play multiple accounts in gw2. As stated multi boxing isnt allowed, so you have to alt tab. In gw1 there where two valid reasons in my opinion to use a multi client. The firts would be trading. all trading would have to be done in a a mutual screen. Both party’s would put the items or money in the screen and show them to each other, if you agreed to the trade you would accept if both accept the trade was done. To transfer items from one account to the other, both accounts had to be online to use this. In gw2 you can simply email to your second account and pick it up hours later.
The second main reason was the 9 rings. the 9 rings is a mini game in gw1 that only has the requirement to be in a ring with enough tickets in your inventory. It is the best wayto obtain the lucky and unlucky title in gw1, but it could be played afk cause all of it was automated. To be able to gain points for the title I would park my main account in the 9 rings game afk and play my second account to pass the time.
Both those things have no reason. So to anyone asking the question if it is ok, I would like to counter the question, why should you??
