Title says it all, today i felt like something was wrong when doing map completion and i decided to test it when i met a warrior who was using the same build as me when i was doing kessex hills.

we did the circus skill challenge where you fight a strongman.
he was the right level for it, i was level80 down-scaled to his level. his stats were better than mine and he saw bigger numbers, i was also squishier than him.

I know it wasent necessarly great for lvl80 to be able to utterly kitten low level content, but now its bad in the opposite way !

Am i honestly crazy or missing something ? because this is just odd and annoying.
I hope people notice this, if im not completly bonkers, this is an issue that needs adressing

p.s.: i actually readed the patchnotes
“In general, scaling down has been weakened, and scaling up has been increased.”
the wording is very confusing for me, is that supposed to mean that a player who got scaled down should have an easier or a harder time against low level content ?
cause if its the former, they completly dun goofed and if its supposed to be the latter, they really overdid it

No. The patch notes means you are weaker after the patch than before the patch. On the other hand when upscaled such as characters below 80 going into WvW they will be stronger after the patch than before.

Okay, but when my lvl80 is downscaled to lvl25 and is weaker than a character actually lvl25, this isint right either.
they should be equal at least

That does seem odd. They may be trying to compensate for ascended/legendary gear, but they may have overcompensated.

I’m guessing you’re not in full exotic or ascended gear?

They really need a more complicated formula than just X% less stats. There are so many issues with downleveling that can’t be fixed by tweaking numbers.

To keep it simple, if you are not at least using full exotics/ascended with a good build, downleveling will destroy you. If you are using full exotics/ascended with a good build it’s the opposite and you’ll destroy low level content.

This.

Prepatch the maximum gear you needed was exotic quality. Post patch now if not in ascended you will already suffer weaker downscaling.

It’s just anets way of making the entire rarity spectrum viable (though it is pushing ascended gear).

On top of that, they reduced the overpowerdness of downscaling as to not trivialize content. Both of these effects make you notice this huge difference.

So what build are you using? Just took my thief over to queensdale and fought the veteran spider near the hunting lodge(can’t think of any other veteran enemies things around that level, an elite would have been idea). Some of the old traits got changed to completely different things but kept their old names.

I did some ascalonian catacombs and other downleveled content with a few characters and I didn’t notice any difference.

What’s your build? Maybe we can offer some advice.

I did some non-80 dungeons with guildies and other friends. I actually found that I had a much easier time through it than I have in the past pre-patch.

A level 80 downscaled to 25 cannot be weaker than an actual lvl 25 because you have access to more traits and skills, you have 3 complete traitlines at 80 that can really change your build. Maybe you forgot to add some traits to your build?

I was going to level my elementalist today but around halfway(near where the crafting stations are located) through I decided to use a pile of tomes.

After that I ended up using these for the rest of the map …
head – lv72 exotic carrion
shoulder – lv55 rare honed
chest – lv76 exotic dire
glove – lv72 exotic carrion
leg – lv72 exotic carrionr
shoe – lv 59 rare ravaging

scepter – lv 38 masterwork strong
focus – exotic lv80 berserker

back – empty/lv 78 exotic berserker
accessories – empty
amulet – lv 46 rare honed?
ring – lv 47 rare honed?
ring – lv 17 master work mighty

didn’t seem particularly challenging. I didn’t have any other characters to compare it to. only slight hiccup was the skill challenge near the fire elemental and that was more due to the burn immunity.

This should depend on what hear you are wearing, if the level 25 is wearing all lvl 25 green gear, he should be as strong as an 80 in full exotics. Once the lvl 25 does a few hearts and events, he’ll hit lvl 26 and lose stats, whereas the 80 will stay equally strong as previously. Getting all gear to your level is pretty tough while leveling, because you level so quick. I don’t see anything wrong with a level 25 beating a level 80 who is not wearing exotics. I am liking the feeling of downscalling on my 80 elementalist, but I know there are two crowds:

Those that want to faceroll all content once they hit 80.
&
Those that want a challenge during all content, regardless of level.

I myself want the whole game to be challenging, and to feel easier when I gear up. Being 80 by itself shouldn’t make you overpowered, but rather if you can get good gear. (which is an incredibly easy thing to do)

If you are level 80 you can unlock everything.
