As a melee player I could much rather the “leftclick+rightclick” combination of buttons forced the number 1 skill in addition to camera control rather than walking forward, that is what WASP is there for.

So is it legal to redefine this events on a software/os lvl?.

On the surface, no. Additionally, it’s a coded function in the game itself. That has the added layer of it being a banning offense because you’d need to alter the game to change it.

Also, why change it? It allows you to move around while chatting, screwing around with a phone or something IRL, maybe eating food. It’s a useful function. If you have a gaming mouse, you’re better off binding one of the side buttons as an alternate for the 1 skill.

I dont need to alter the Client to make this happen, i can alter the signal my OS sends to the client to make it happen. The client would not be modified. Look into “AutoHotKey”, for instance.

I want to change it because it is not optimal for pvp engagements, and it offers little value to me in pve. In pvp the lag and limited range for the “Auto Attack” feature to trigger makes it so that it is much more optimal to bash the “1” key than to use the auto attack feature. Thus since LMC+RMC makes me move forward wich is of no use to me, i would much rather have that replaced with triggering an attack.

As long as you keep it one key press one action you fine. Now if you set it up to hold done the button and keep swinging that is not allowed because that is a repeatable action.

When I play my engenier I have my one skill set to left ckilck and toss grenades like crazy.

This is a policy that they need to revise. The logic behind multiple clicks for repeating the same action vs holding down 1 key to repeat the same action is the same the only thing that changes is the physical motion of it. Further more, skills have built in cool downs and animation times thus spamming “111111111” vs “11” in say 0.3 seconds gives you no benefit what so ever, the exact same number of “1” skills will be cast either way, the only difference is that you wont get Arthritis at 40.

Im fully on board against macros that cast a sequence of different skills. But i see no advantage what so ever in “dumb” buttons. In particular given the fact that they have similar functionality built in into the client.

Being able to swing constanly would give an advantige over people. Also there are acivments which having a repeat key setup would give an advantage

Not really, we are talking about getting bonus strikes, Cooldowns/Animations are long enough that you wont get additional strikes even if you have it clicle every 0.0000001 seconds. Even if the skill has no cooldown written on the tooltip, the system still waits until the animation is done (most dagger attacks for instance), so they are hard capped at X amount per second already, and they are easily attainable by mashing, the only difference is if you like to mash or rather hold down the key.

Not really, if what you want to prevent is automated decision making/combo, they you make it so that 1 button can only trigger 1 action bar slot. Presto. They might as well include a hold down multi cast toggle option.

This might be interesting around this topic. Macros are generally only forbidden if they bring you an in-combat advantage, or allow you to bot your way through content. Otherwise, clicking a lot to play a musical instrument or say, open a lot of bags is in no way an advantage over other players, and thus should be fine.

Gaile Gray

We don’t recommend any. We don’t support them. If a macro causes your refrigerator to explode, we’re not going to get involved. But they are not against the rules, because the rules pertain to gameplay advantages, such as faster kills or more effective defense.

Plus, it’s less out of date than the 2 year old replies. :P

Er no it isnt, everything in the game that is to meant spammed has the a default CD with its animation length, and since we are focusing in combat, none that i can thing of is shorter than 0.5 seconds?, so if you can click twice in half a second, which i think we can all agree everybody can do with out much effort, then the only difference is that this is more comfortable.

Not to mention the fact that we could already do this through hardware solutions, i could use a usb dumbs stile pedal to use it to auto click with my foot. This sound ludicrous but it is just to point out, this is only the logical software step.

To address Gailes quote above, this behavior is neither more effective nor faster, it is only more comfortable.

This doesnt even need to happen as you set your 1 attack to autocast.

Though realistically even with lag you only need to press it once, if you’re having issue with that… there’s plenty of solutions in place.

I so wish that this was actually enforced regarding jump-dodge macroers. They’re easy to spot; the folks in which every dodge is a jump-dodge and not just some of them, even in the most intense combat situations.

Jara-Sensei has practiced the rolling Dodge Jumpu in the Super Adventure boxu for many a century. Now she is a greatu warlordu in her art!

Seriously though, Dodge jumps are wonky and if you were to bind them to your normal jump you’d fail many situations where you need a normal one. Some people are really good at this and can just do it on average by now.

Never played grenade kit, have you?

Also, does no one here know about Combat Mod? It’s actually approved for use in game, since it offers no definitive advantage and actually makes some skills harder to use (which is why the game is not designed that way).

Far as I know the latest patch broke it, but it’s bound to get fixed.

Yes they have allowed mutiable action macros for instrument playing but auto clickers for bags are still a no-no.

I’m pretty sure ANet has said in the past that macros are ok as long as they only perform 1 action per press. So you should be fine with binding one mouse click to one action.

Again, if you’re setting it so that holding down both mouse buttons repeatedly sends “1” to the game, if’s a bannable offense. Guild wars does not have, and does not support, “hold button X to repeatedly press Y” and as a result, doing anything to essentially force that is breaking the rules. 1 press, 1 action. That is the rule for everything but instruments. That’s not a “player interpretation” of the rules, this is what’s been stated by Anet itself.
