We have haloween, and X’mas.

I can only remember those 2, isn’t gw2 missing more festivities dates along the year, like easter in april, or the gw2 anniversary itself (We don’t have a in-game festival to celebrate the gw2 anniversary). I’ve been playing gw1, and it seens to have a lot of important dates celebrated into the game, i kinda miss this in gw2.

PS: Not talking about Gem store festival promotions, okay? This is not the way to “Celebrate” a important date into a game

We have Chinese New Year and Crown Pavillon, too. Possibly even Dragon Bash whenever Anet feels like it.

Who decides what is “important” enough to celebrate? Besides we all know how well people here take repeated festivals and stuff, so why bother doing it, if all they are going to hear is complaints and rage every year?

I’m all for more festivals, especially if there isn’t any LS going on (or the festival is big enough to allow LS to be skipped for a week or two).

I liked GW1’s Easter event. Perhaps it’s too connected to Christianity (for it to appeal universally) they could make some kind of Spring/Melandru related event?

An anniversary event would be pretty sweet too!

Having a carnival style festival could be a lot of fun too: lots of colour and masks and things.

Hi krall. Well, this is a decision of the anet team itself. In Guild Wars 1 for example they decided that pirates day (Makes a lot of sense in gw2 universe) and Breast Cancer Awareness Month were important enough to “Celebrate” in game.

People will always conplain, but this doesn’t represent the whole community, neither the major part of it. If you think that anet should stop doing content because complaints, then the game would be death in a few years.

The festival of the four winds was kind of like a big carnival, did you get to try that? Their ship crashed so I don’t know if it will return, but maybe they just set up somewhere else or get a new ship?

Hi krall. Well, this is a decision of the anet team itself. In Guild Wars 1 for example they decided that pirates day (Makes a lot of sense in gw2 universe) and Breast Cancer Awareness Month were important enough to “Celebrate” in game.

And yet the first of those only added a single drop and changed the costumes of a couple of NPCs. Not really much of a celebrations at all.

The second added a single dye that you could buy, nothing else.

One could of course also point out that the lack of celebrations in this game might be due to ArenaNet deciding against doing more of them.

Better off not having any, why should our characters celebrate Xmas for example. Xmas and the reason for it isn’t part of the game world.

I’d like to see more seasonal content as well. It doesn’t even have to be a big achievement-point driven affair or something hugely different every year. A two-week event that highlights some of Tyria’s lore would be great to have every month or two.

Many alts; handle it!

Yeah- it was pretty sweet!

It just didn’t really strike me as super “carnival” though. I’d love to see a carnival similar to brazillian carnivals and parades. Of course, it would have to fit in with GW2 lore, though… perhaps they’ll introduce more festivals if we meet new groups of people/races, much like Four Winds.

Our characters don’t celebrate Xmas, they celebrate Wintersday.

The small festivals, where consumables drop from mobs and GvG lords for a week, worked well in GW1 because most of the consumables came that way. That type of event would be nice to have, but most of the limited access consumables are already tied to another returning or non-returning event (Dragon Bash, Lunar New Year, Wintersday).

Would be nice if they hinted at them in advance (like a month or two, and don’t have to say what they’re doing). The last 3 festivals I’ve missed because of rl obligations that literally tie me up for weeks on-end. Even if it doesn’t change the fact that I’ll miss it, at least I’ll know to buy some gems and hopefully catch the aftermath in the gem store.

I just remembered that GW1 had “Wintersday in July”. I thought that this was pretty innovative considering how many people are very busy during the holiday season- it’s not unusual for people to go and stay with relatives and thus not have access to GW2 to obtain any of the holiday related items or experience any of the events.

The more I think about it, the more “bare” GW2 is. Of course, we have LS, which is excellent when it’s around, but it’d be nice to have a strict annually schedule when we know for certain that there will be a festival and associated activities.

One of my favorite things about gw1 was these acknowledgments of holidays. Just the chance for a chocolate bunny to drop from a foe was fun. I don’t need a big extravagant event. but to get a unique holiday consumable, like a easter egg (How do you not have ‘easter eggs’ in a videogame?) or a chocolate bunny felt like getting a present. Let me also say, the drop rate of these items, and all the other items like Candycorn, needs to be decreased by 99%, I don’t need to fill my personal guild storage with chocolate bunnies, like I did with snowflakes and candy corn. after 1 week of playing.

We have ‘plenty’ of holidays in the game, but I would be pleased to see more.

The original launch of GW1 didn’t include that many either. Some holidays were added over time.

Incidentally: events aren’t cheap to add. They require a lot of new artwork, programming, event mechanics, associated QA, etc. So each new event means some other feature won’t be added to the game.

Believe it or not, there was a time when people were complaining that there were too many holidays in game, and not enough other content being released.

It would be nice to have some festivals that are purely Tyrian, not necessarily based on Terran rites. A couple spring to mind when looking at the GW2 timeline in https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Timeline

- DR’s anniversary. They sneakily had the centennial five years before game launch, but why wouldn’t the last strong bastion of humanity’s hope celebrate each year it survives?

- Similarly, the Black Citadel, founded in 1112, might have victory celebrations. I know the Charr aren’t necessarily sentimental in the same way as humans, but we know from Meatoberfest that they like excuses to party.

- Norn moots. You hear a bit about them in the PS but get the impression they’re just a party. A moot is actually a gathering of households to discuss issues affecting everyone, to claim justice against each other … and yes, to party like there’s no tomorrow, with contests and bragging and markets full of trade goods.
