I did one of the centaur events in kessex hills where you have to defeat seven waves. I killed one wave solo and then moved on. Two minutes later I got s gold medal.

I feel bad for the guy who stood there for all seven waves fighting tooth and nail.

On a similar vein, I’ve seen people walk away from events after one or two minutes to “tag” the event, presumably for the daily achievement. I do this too, if I only have events left and I’m running out of time to complete. I feel like I shouldn’t be rewarded for killing two centaurs or flame legion and then walking away.

I do agree that the participation is calculated in a weird way. Not just in your scenario, but also that you can earn gold medal for failing an event. I know the idea is that you are supposed to be rewarded for the attempt, but this is not how it is calculated. You can completely ignore the event’s objective and still get gold participation for failing.
