Is it true that Anet is making "Skill Trees"?

They’ve said they’re going to add new skills and traits to the game, but they haven’t said anything about skill trees. We have trait lines in this game, so I wouldn’t put any stock into rumors of skill trees.
I’ve never seen any details concerning skill trees, and I’m aware of a lot of the stuff that is announced. It wouldn’t surprise me that they’d add in a skill tree though.
All that Ive heard are that you will be able to purchase skills via skillpoints.
Hopefully its the same method as we did during leveling…no real “trees”.
If they did trees, it would be terrible, but just more of the ‘same ole’…making the game less of a gem and more run of the mill.

How would it be terrible? This game needs some goal to work towards. All we get is minigames and tiny lore stories. I’m not saying it should be a grind. But some form of character proggression would be nice.
How is the constant happy festivals with a disaster every time a GEM?
Please elaborate.
Yeah, I once thought that it would be better for them to scrap the current system and implement a skill tree system, but when I thought about it, it would be extremely hard for them to pull it off and make it better than the current systems.
I mean, what makes a skill tree great?
New abilities
New skills
Since skills are already unlocked a different way they would have to make 5 elaborate trees that have like “45 percent chance to summon addition minion” every tier just to make it work.
They would likely have to put more effort into it than any MMO to date, but it could work, I just think that they won’t even risk the time investment with how long it will take. That’s assuming it could be done with the current engine.

But the current utility/elite skill system is akin to a dubbed down skill tree-you need to spend x skill points in this tier to unlock the next tier, and you can only unlock this particular type of skill after a level requirement. I think some people are making the game to be more of a gem than it really is.
As for skill trees-if they’re linked to our orders then I think it could be interesting; however if it’s just ‘poof’ you now have access to these abilities for no apparent reason it would be rather underwhelming.
The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name.
The swim lane design is a much better approach than the space invader tree layout.
Personally I hope they make all traits purchasable, and make all skill slots a player choice, then add back the choice of a second profession.
So in a nutshell, you could spec Warrior/Guard GS and choose your 10 skills from either the warrior or guard GS skills, and you’d then purchase specific traits from a combined warrior/guardian trait list, where “good” traits cost something like 15-25 points and “bad” traits cost something like 5-10 points.
Whatever system they come up with, as long as you can choose/replace certain weapon skills it’ll be a great improvement.
