I haven’t played since Dragonball/Sanctum ended.

I played a little of the Queen pavilon thing, last living story and I immeditly saw that It was just another meaningless grindy living story (im looking at the Queens arena thing).
So i loggd off and havent come back since then.

Just wondering if it’s any fun or any good rewards without too much grind right now in the game, then i might be interested. I have read the forums while’ve been away and mainly it’s only gone down hill from my point of view, the Tequatl revamp didn’t do much other than it’s harder and well kitten rewards – I mean from what’ve heared it’s harder but gives the same rewards as every other daily boss, which just makes it not worthwhile according to the rewards (3 greens 1 rare?).

I also heared about that new ascended items grind, 500 dragonnite ore and stuff, well sounds terrible, just sounds like a timesink and a goldsink in the game, really just more grind to meaningless rewards.

I also read that no progress has yet been done about the main story of the game , fighting the elder dragons. It’s just same old living story faceroll content.

So tell my why I should come back and atleast try to play the game.

I don’t think you should come back. Clearly it’s all about rewards to some people, rewards are the only thing that matters, and if it’s not that way, you’re not going to be happy.

For example, there’s a new dungeon path for Twilight Arbor that’s been released. It’s harder than some other paths in other dungeons, but I think it’s a much better dungeon than most. But reward-wise its’ not much better than any other dungeon.

I think people who play for rewards are the least satisfied with this game. People who play because they’re enjoying themselves and don’t really care much about the rewards seem to be happier.

Maybe you’re right. Anet wants guildwars 2 to be unique, a game where rewards arent rewarding(?) and it’s all about the experience.
But frankly, there’s hardly any intersting story and the way it’s written (Living story) – well it could’ve been written by 12 year olds.
What you can experience in the game is experienced while you are lvling up and you have done most of the content, which is done quite fast, I was done with lvling and doing all zones and doing all dungeons in the game around december 2012. That didn’t take long. And after I was done – well I was verry bored so I quit for about 4months.

I guess we’ll have to disagree about the story. I don’t think it could have been written by 12 year olds. I agree they’re not aiming at high drama, mind you, but writing stuff for 12 year olds is a lot harder than writing stuff for adults. Much harder, actually.

The storyline is fine. It’s not meant to be ultra serious and dark. Actually I find younger people tend to object to that more than older people, which I find a bit ironic.

For example, when you’re young and serious and still think the world is a tragedy instead of a comedy, you tend to think in terms of all this silliness as being child-like. But after a lifetime of tragedy, child-like ain’t so bad. There’s enough dark stuff in the world….a bit of light-hearted levity (like the Halloween stuff and even Scarlet) doesn’t perturb me at all.

And I don’t think the quality of the writing or voice acting is as bad as most people make out.

That said, it may not be to your taste. That’s another matter entirely.

What do you think of the voice acting in personal story? I think it was verry boring cutscenes and Trahaernes voice had no emotion just verry bland.

Trahearne wasn’t a general. He was a scholar. He’s who he is. He doesn’t have an inspiring or heroic voice. It is bland. Is that bad? I don’t know. I don’t really care, because not everyone needs to be hercules to me.

However, you’re not talking about new stuff, you’re talking about old stuff now, stuff that was in the game from launch and before launch. I think Scarlet’s voice acting is excellent. You might not like the character, but you can’t fault the voice acting for it. It’s very good.

Some of the other voice overs we’ve had since have been good too. For example, most people loved the cut scene that was from Dragon Bash. It got a lot of great reviews.

The Mad King Thorn and Prince Edrick voices are overdone intentionally and pretty much what you’d expect.

The anticipation and excitement waiting for this game to release was unbelievable, When it finally did it was ‘An Anti Climax’.

1 year down the line and Anet have utterly kitten d GW2, The crazy zergs in WvW, The skill delay, The lack of rewards for defending where all issues that eventually would have made me stop playing however it was the addition of Ascended items that finally did it for me and haven’t logged in since. I still check in on these forums occasionally in the hope that Anet has seen the light.

Sad really, the high hopes i had for this game

I enjoy the process. I always seem to get increasingly frustrated, whiny, and downright miserable when I get to the point where it seems the next goal should be the legendary. I don’t know why, but around then, everything is negative and I spend more time in LA map chat than actually playing the game. Y’know why? At that point, the game becomes more like a job. There’s no satisfaction for me in killing 100 mobs to sell the drop to get materials that don’t naturally drop.

This is just the GW2 system for those “cosmetic” grinds. If you can’t start another character to re-live the content in some way or to try a different approach then Vayne is right. This game isn’t designed for quick-gratification loot-based reward cycles unless the delay in your reinforcement expectations is extremely high.

By the way, many players don’t do the ascended grind. The only ones complaining about being at a disadvantage are the ones so hardcore that they are in a position to notice negligible differences. You don’t sound like a hardcore player, so just avoid the ascended. Maybe one will drop. It does happen.

Why bother asking? All you’ll get is a bunch of conflicting opinions and have to guess which one(s) to believe.

Since there’s no subscription fee why not come back and have a look for yourself? All you’ve got to loose is a bit of time and you can get a definite answer. Or you can look through the patch notes and new achievements on the wiki and get an idea that way.

But if you want other peoples opinions then here’s mine: I don’t think it’s worth you coming back, I think you’ll be disappointed. I love this game, I play it almost every day (I’m writing this in between attempts at the clock tower), but it’s not designed to give you quick, impressive rewards on a regular basis (or even at all) and if that’s what you’re looking for your going to be disappointed.

I don’t understand why people always ask the: is it worth comming back question.
If you have read the forum as you say you have, then you should know which changes have been implented. Did you see any changes to the things that made you shelve the game last time?

If you did, then maybe log in and try it out? If you still don’t like it, log out again?
You already bought the game so….

So then why isn’t the OP playing the immediate gratification mmo’s, which is most of them, right? Ah…because that system gets stale once you see the pattern of grinding for gear that is almost immediately obsolete so that you can do it all over again.

See, that’s what is so great about GW2….there is very little of that here, and it’s refreshing for there to be a game that people can just play. I would absolutely be thrilled if legendaries were based on something other than crafting. For example, world completion including personal story on five different race/class combinations…that would be pretty legendary. Don’t like that idea? Have four other ways you can accomplish it.

I agree completely. I enjoy every second with this game and although there are times when I’m frustrated with the fruits of my success it never takes long for me to forget why I was upset. There’s so much to do in this game it’s hard for me to grasp why so many people complain about it sometimes. I understand the quest for achieving a maxed out character but what happens when you get there? Nothing… Enjoy the road and soak in the game. Some may disagree but of the games I’ve played Guild Wars 2 is by a generous stretch the most gorgeous and well designed game I’ve played. Not only that, considering it’s size and the detail put in to it it’ never ceases to amaze me how infrequent freezing, glitches or bugs will happen. You would think with the immensity of the world there would be more obvious discrepancies but they’re actually quite rare.
So in closing, no. If you’re in it for the loot you should not come back. The game will from time to time reward you greatly for your triumph but the real reward is in the battle and exploration itself.

Yep…I get frustrated with stuff too sometimes. Today I did the Melandru Temple event but the chest didn’t spawn for me. Sort of annoying. But it’s not that hard, and I did get champion boxes from the spiders that spawn there, so not a complete loss. Still, it was annoying.

It wasn’t annoying for long. A while later, I was doing other stuff and having fun again. It’s only a big deal if you make it a big deal.

For the most part, I’m having a ball.

As others have said, it really depends upon what kind of game you want to play.

For me, the game is about logging in and having fun. I only do the grindy stuff when I want to, I never feel like I have to do them (dailies, monthlies, achievements, etc). Everything is optional, loot is nice but not necessary, leveling is easy.

If you realize that everything is optional, you’ll have a blast when you stop chasing the carrots around. I find it interesting that so many people complained about wanting those carrots when the game launched, and now that they have the optional carrots they asked for, they complain that they feel “forced” to do things, when it’s really all in their own heads.

So…which kind of player are you?

OP, log into the game and give it an hour or so to see if you like it. If not, then you have your answer. If you do like it, find something that you enjoy doing and try that, if you find you get bored, do something else.

The forums goers are split and you’ll most likely not find an answer. There are those who will say it’s great when it’s not and those who will say it’s terrible when it’s not.

You’re not subbing to play, so hop on and give it a test run. Maybe you like Halloween and will like this update. Like an algebra problem, it’s all filled with variables.

Not to be harsh but I definitely agree with dyno’s point; if some game just aren’t for you then you shouldn’t force yourself upon liking it. But just putting facts out there, the game’s PVE has not changed for the most part other than new contents which generally has just the same gameplay concepts stacked upon original concepts. So I doubt that the game will be any different of an experience.

Your best bet is to give this game more time if you are thinking about coming back. Currently the only thing going for this game is WvW (and those who enjoy sPVP). Sure they release content every two weeks but I don’t care about living story – it’s boring to me. I’m sure if I sat down and looked it over it wouldn’t be so bad.

Problem with the Living Story is if you come back, you can’t enjoy what already came. Also the server performance in WvW is really, really bad. I don’t know the future of this game, but from what I see it doesn’t look good. Unless this company is able to pull a trick out of their hats and really drill down to fixing issues, I don’t see this game getting better.

GW2 is not a bad game, but the development, bug fixes and updates to the Fractals (and other areas) leaves a lot to be said.

Until he goes into WvW and starts getting smoked by people with ascended weapons (and soon, ascended armor) and he tries to do a dungeon through LFG and gets harassed because he’s not in ascended. Then he’ll realize he’s going to need to grind or GTFO.

I dunno if it’s worth coming back. Is it worth having fun? Whatever grind there is you impose on yourself. You could always, you know, just play the kitten game and not give a kitten about what rewards you get because you don’t need them to, you know, play the kitten game? I mean, shiny things are nice, but if you wouldn’t enjoy the game if it had zero shinies, then I dunno what you were doin’ playin’ the game in the first place.

Because some of us still hold on to the hope that the game will improve. Even though there’s disappointment, it’s always good to hold on to a bit of hope. I hope you’ll understand in your fanboyish phase.

Why dont you explain me how does some1 improve game by deflecting people from coming back??How do YOU want game to improve if you tell people to not come back?Do you think you help Anet or this guy by telling him to quit or not come back?If you want good game then help and improve it the way you can…since you are completely useless here as your point is then at least help to improve it as part of community, you can call me fanboy but i play this game cause i like it and i want more people in game. You are troll that seems like “dont like this game” so go back and play what you like and dont try to support other trolls here that deflect people from it.I know i will get warning or negative points from mods cause of this but i dont care…community needs to help not to tell other people how they need to quit.

Forums are for opinion. If someone wants to give his or her opinion, he or she is free to do it. And you don’t know if it’s helping ANet or not. Maybe when people stop playing because they think the game isn’t up to par, they add things that combat that.

Do go back and read what I said in response to the OP. Then come back and tell me what you really think of me.

I think some1 who play this game should NEVER say to other player that he should “not game back” cause that doesn’t help at all….nether supporting those that says that, that is not personal opinion…

If he didn’t like it before, he won’t like it now. It’s still the same game with maybe 5 things added that don’t change much of anything.

Oh, you’d rather I fill the OP with fluff so he starts playing again, yes? No. If a person left the game before because he/she felt bored or plain didn’t like the game, it’s still the same game as it was back then. Nothing’s changed in the way of game play except more grinding was possibly added depending on who reads it and their perspective.

And before the defense squad comes in telling me how they ended culling, added a new TA path, and numerous other things, the game is still the same.

not worth to come back, gw2 is boring as hell comparing to gw1

But you are still here on GW2 site….ins’t that ironic ;3

Whatever really….this sort of questions are just useless on forums cause there will be always people that support game and those that pretend to support it wile trolling around all the time.I think that some1 who has this game can just login as u wrote above already and see does it work for him or not.

Not alots changed since the Queens pavilion event but Halloween is a really fun event and you may want to give that ago.

Anet are currently collecting player feedback on the game in 3 separate threads and hopefully will address some of the main issues in the future.

Both sides are honest in what they think. It’s not fair to assume the ones who don’t agree with your point of view is trolling.

Honestly, after seeing what kind of grind the Living Story really is, I have absolutely no desire to log on to experience it. I missed Halloween last year and will most likely miss it this year.

It was the same grind last year pretty much. Maybe not for the skins, but for everything else. In fact, arguably last year it was worse grind, because pumpkin carving was one of the achievements, and that was dull as dishwater.

Actually, there’s a fine line between critique and just bashing..and there are some people who are on these forums just to bash.

For example, someone posts a thread about how much they like the game. Someone else comes into that thread and says, “you obviously haven’t been playing long”. Well, those people obviously know I like the game and I’m playing since launch and so are others. Therefore, the comment can only be construed to insult the game…and by implication people who like the game.

Many of the opinions people state as facts contribute to the overall tone of the forum.

I’m happy to say the game isn’t for everyone, but that doesn’t make it a bad game. People need to learn to communicate better.

Unless you like the Tequatl event (which some servers and guilds organize) and the new dungeon path, which is by far my favorite dungeon in the game.
