Greetings, folks! I wasn’t playing for quite a while now, and I was wondering is it worth playing the game now IF I’m not planning to get the HoT when it comes out (will it be possible to play the game without the expansion, like in old Guild Wars). Looking forward to the answers, thanks in advance!

Yes it will be possible to play everything currently in the game without buying the expansion.

You just won’t be able to do the expansion stuff: train masteries, make a revenant, enter the new maps, play the new story etc.

From the sound of it, the things you miss out with the expansion is:

• New profession (Revenant)
• New specializations (trait lines) for each existing profession
• New PvE area

This is pretty similar to old GW1 (where each expansion gave you new classes, new skills for your old classes, and new PvE stuff — though HoT sounds like it’s going to mostly be a few zones).

If you’ve been away for a while, it’s worth dipping your feet in again right now because the June 2015 patch changes a ton of stuff related to character builds. You may find some of your old favorites play in ways that are interesting again (or you may be disappointed; but the point is you should come and see).

At this point you can pre-purchase the expansion and get the base game for free (you need to wait for the expansion, but you can play the GW2 as everyone else once its installed). Or you can buy just the base game for the same price (unless you find a good discount somewhere).

You have to have an account for the game to post on this forum, and the OP said they used to play, so it’s unlikely he/she is looking to buy the game, just wary of committing to a game if it’s going to be unplayable without paying again in a few months.

Wow, I wasn’t expecting this amount of answers for such a short time.
Yeah, I do have account for more then a year now, but I’m can’t get HoT now or when it comes out, maybe later. Still, those are pretty useful info, thanks again everyone.

There’s no harm in waiting to get HoT. A lot of people who play regularly are still choosing to wait simply because we don’t have all the details on what’s included yet, or because they think it’s too expensive and are waiting until it goes on sale.

The only thing you’ll actually miss out on if you don’t pre-purchase is the title (Maguuma Trailblazer). Other than that you can keep playing the base game as you can now and then buy HoT later if you want to.

Play it now if you aren’t getting HoT immediately, while the player base is still consolidated in content you currently have access too.
