Is shatterer broken?

I did it awhile ago by taxing to a map. Look in lfg tab for people wanting to CC shatterer. Best way is if you have a glider to drop bombs on him as a large group. Theres Certain times that everyone should jump off the pad like 14:17, 12:17 and 9:50 (I think) the rest depends on how map DPS goes.
When the new Shatterer was just released, there was a huge thread about it, mostly dealing with the break bar.
My concern then was, that breaking the bar isn’t necessary to win the encounter and doesn’t serve any purpose except for earning achievements and shaving a minute or so off the time it takes to make the kill.
I haven’t been there after the first week so I can’t judge the situation for myself, but if what you’re saying is representative for the average Shatterer run, it seems my concern proved right.
You might want to look into finding “organised” runs.
The bar is more easily broken after a change they made some weeks ago but it still requires people to actually WANT to do it and as Manasa rightly points out, given it’s only useful for a one-time per-account achievement then sadly this is likely to be the same as most others like that: once people have done it once they have no motivation to do it again especially as this one requires them to actually be playing the game rather than mashing ‘1’ while watching YouTube.
Just another poor Anet design decision that totally fails to take into account this universal MMO fact: if you provide content with a once-per-account reward guess what happens when most people have done it, and God forbid you weren’t around when it first went live.
It’s not broken, it was intended to be harder than killing him. Not sure why since it provides virtually no advantage. I just did a map which broke him 3 times and all it did was slow the dps as everyone waiting on the launch pads until the timer hit the point for jumping off to break.
It requires coordination and it is doable, I’m just not getting why it is necessary or why it should be so difficult. If it made a major tactical advantage then that would be a great incentive, but I’ve never seen one in the times I’ve seen the bar broken.
Sounds a bit like the Shadow Behemoth achievement for closing portals within a certain time span. It’s not necessary to win the fight, or even close to necessary, but every now and then I’ll see someone request that the map go for it. (I’ll try to help when they do, although since I already have the achievement, I rarely know if we make it or not.)
With the right coordination it’s actually pretty easy to break him… the main problem is a lot of players still don’t understand how the encounter works. The primary breaking mechanics are using the glider bombs (which needs a coordinated zerg) and mortar 1 skill.
Breaking shatt doesn’t actually slow the encounter down significantly. It makes him vulnerable so you can make up the damage once he’s broken. If the commander doesn’t know the timings well, then people will be sitting on the launch pads needlessly. But, the main mechanic that makes for a slow fight is not breaking the healing crystals quickly enough… he heals up pretty quickly. You can do your bit by reminding everyone to bring their CCs before the fight starts.
More healing = longer fight = more breakbar phases = more chances to fail = no achievement
I’ve done this encounter about a dozen times with my guild, and since the the breakbar mechanic was fixed, he is always been defeated after just 2 breakbars and 1 healing crystal phase.

Is he broken or just a little poorly made? I’ve played the fight 7 or 8 times, with the breakbar appearing often as usual, and you know how many times I’ve broken it? Once. so I have no clue how to get the achieve of never let him use that attack, or even the break the bar so many times one. I have honestly defeated him more times than I’ve broken the bar. Does that seem right to you? I’m honestly, no rage monster, not criticizing, wondering if this is broken at the moment.
It’s not broken — most people just don’t realize that personal CCs aren’t enough; folks have to use siege and glider bombs. In most of the maps I’ve been on, the folks who know how to do this aren’t explaining it to the folks who don’t.
