Is targeting important when using Action Cam?
Not really. You pretty much move the corsair to that guy and that guy is your target. It’s like Counter Strike now.
Tab targeting is rendered obsolete by AC, but that does not mean everyone likes AC. So if you like your FPS/TPS, then AC is for you. I personally don’t like the AC that much unless I’m on a ranger or something because it doesn’t feel very MMO to me.

Thanks for the info! I like it exactly because it makes it so it doesn’t feel like an MMO. GW2 so desperately wants to be an action game imo.

Ranger sword is AMAZING with the action camera. #sarcasm

LOLOL I’m usually on my phone and it makes these auto corrections if dealing with weird words. But yes I meant crosshairs
Targeting is easier in some ways with the Action Camera, but there can be issues with hitbox occlusion that make other methods of target selection necessary.
As an example, you often can’t hit that high-priority target behind and slightly to one side of the trash mob in front by putting the crosshairs on it and attacking — you’ll hit the trash mob instead — thus tab targeting remains an important option in crowded fights, especially the kind so common in HoT that involve tight spaces and no-go areas created by high-damage persistent AoE effects.
Parallax resulting from third-person view can also make hitting the target you want more tricky, and the more zoomed out the view, the worse it gets.
I really want to love the Action Camera and would prefer to use it all the time, but found it too problematic to stay with, as outlined here:
Absurdly long critique for anyone with too much time on their hands.
I’m hoping it will become better after an iteration or two, however, and encourage any and all players who want it to succeed to give ArenaNet your best feedback, whatever it may be.

Range skills lock on with tab when you’re using action cam. They are hard to land without targeting enemy. Some skills also require a target in general to work. Thief doesn’t have skills like that though that I can think of atm.

Infiltrator’s Signet, and Steal off the top of my head.
Steal is a big one.

I found AC is limiting in term of targeting. If you enable AC, target locked is no longer function as default. You have to use the cross wire to target. That means I can’t attack things on my side while running forward. Or I use AA to attack thing on my left but casting AoE on my right.

Just cuz they do pirate-ish stuff doesn’t always make them a pirate.
Another issue about AC is I need to look at the ground in order to cast an AoE around my PC. It is odd. In default mode, skill click a ground targeted AoE skill turn it into PBAoE. It is more natural to me.

I find that targeting via TAB (or clicking the left stick in this instance) will still lock a target for you, this still lets you attack something to your side without having to be looking directly at your target. Your target has to move pretty significantly off center before your target unlocks.
