So I’ve been playing for a while and it’s been bothering/boring me how the point of the game is to just get to the next heart or task. Is that really it to this game? Is there no epic or really fun quest for great items or story or anything in this game or am I just doing something wrong? Someone please put me at ease.

The hearts were put in because people got in the game and didn’t know what to do or where to go. They needed breadcrumbs to follow. The main “story” behind each map is in the events. Queensdale’s is the fight between the humans and the centaurs. You might want to concentrate more on the events and the dialog around them.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

GW2 is an open world game where you do what you want. Leveling is indeed what you described, although there are alternative ways to level if you don’t like (WVW, PVP). At 80, you are essentially given a table setting of activities to choose from, and you pick the ones you like. Activities include world bosses, events, farming, event zones (SW, Dry Top), Personal story, Living Story (currently you have to buy the old episodes, but new episodes are free if you log in when they are live), Dungeons, Fractals, PVP, WVW, and the ever popular playing dress-up with your character.

Many of these things you can do long before 80, in fact. I suggest looking around, joining a guild and hanging out, and so on.

If doing hearts and “tasks” (events?) is getting boring to you I suggest trying out one or several of the following activities:

-exploration
-personal story /living story
-jumping puzzles
-crafting
-spvp
-World vs. World
-hunt achievements
-dungeons & fractals
-joining a guild for guild-exclusive activities
-gather weapon and armor skins
-world bosses

I can’t really answer whether there are “epic” quests in GW2 because it’s ultimately a matter of opinion. I thought the personal story was so-so. However Living Story Season 2 I found far more enjoyable. You need to be lvl. 80 for the living story but you don’t have to finish the personal story in order to access it.

You havent mentioned the epic storyline for personal story quests… there is the living story as well to participate in. Other then that you have world boss trains, high level fractals, dungeons, pvp, exploration of the world, guild missions, hopefully soon there will be the normal run of holiday events, as well as an expansion releasing in less then a month. There is a whole hero panel of achievements you can work on… what else do you want to do?

also we have a active RP community here as well… if none of the above tickles your fancy.

I would suggest exploring and looking out for events in the world – Hearts are really something to fall back on if you’re desperate for Exp. If you just run from Heart to Heart you’re missing out on a lot of fun – just go explore the map.

The Hearts were put in because they were worried people from other MMOs wouldn’t like the explore/event system but it kinda catches a lot of people coming over from other games in a trap where they get Heart tunnel vision.

If you approach GW2 from the mindset of exploration and joining in on random events you find and following the story that usually happens around them (if an NPC is speaking after the event finishes and runs off saying “now we need to go blah blah” follow them and see what happens).

This is just personally how I enjoyed the game, also watch out for every 10 levels the next part of your personal story activating (green star pops up and you usually get a mail I think).

Good luck!
