That is a fair point. Personally I also think the rats should have been removed, but I guess ANet’s crunched the numbers and figured with only a two week window for Halloween, it wasn’t worth putting a dev’s time onto changing the instance.

What gets people the most riled up above all is how easily this could have been fixed or amended, they could add the rats to the last instance and extend the event for another weekend for instance.

But no Anet chooses to let this fester.

In a player driven economy, the demand of an item surpassing the supply generated by the playerbase will increase the value of it. While there are some items in these bags that are not based around cosmetics (the low drop rate of T6 mats), the price of these bags is directly relative to the cosmetic value that is being placed on them. While currently profitable, that profit is derived directly from other players and their willingness to play a higher price. In essence, this is a transfer of wealth not wealth generation.

As far as this specific spawn of ambients is concerned, it’s defiantly one of the faster ones to farm. As long as the playerbase is willing to pay for that item, and the demand remains higher than the supply, it will be profitable. This is not an exploit, it’s the playerbase saying “thank you for farming this, because we didn’t want to”.

I take this extremely offensive considering people who did not know about this exploit u call legit, and finished the event, are no longer able to farm it. I am part of the people who wanted to farm it and don’t fall under your quota “thank you for farming this, because we didn’t want to”. I wanted to.

At least e honest to yourself and admit u guys at anet literally didn’t care enough to take out the rats from the instance….because we all know, even the ppl who profited and made tons of gold for free (thumbs up to u guys) that this exploited has effected the game more negatively then positively on the long run.

So why were players who came into a specific instance of the arah farm to force the event to succeed not banned? they could have gone into any other map instance and completed the event, but they griefed the farmers and received no punishment. Now all of a sudden killing mobs in the open world is a bannable offense?

This makes no sense at all.

Almost all exploitable spots in arah have received changes in such a way they discourage people from doing it. Some spots like penitent, have been changed literally over night after someone opened a topic on the forums.

This INSTANCE (not open world at all…what are u talking about) has not received any change.

Even if there are profitable spots left in Arah, they can be accessed by everyone…compared to this event where, if done as INTENDED, u are automatically at a disadvantage PERMANENTLY.

Sry but i feel like u have no clue what u are talking about OR u didn’t make a good comparison.

Z is talking about how someone was banned for killing ambient creatures in the open world to prevent people from farming. There’s a post about it in the thread, but if you don’t want to look for it, then I’m too lazy to find it for you.

He’s not arguing that it makes this exploit fair, he’s saying that Anet is being inconsistent with their rules, which they are. You’ve just misunderstood his point completely.

“Just going to clear this up…
GM was called to the situation after multiple reports filed from a players for Griefing.
Player’s client language was set to English
Player received multiple warnings via Whisper (Whisper) in English
Player was moved from the map and placed in a different instance of the map (in case they were actually farming something useful rather than griefing)
Player attempted multiple times to zone back into this specific version of the map, eventually was successful
Returned to previous behavior
An attempt was made to make sure that the GM got this player’s attention
After attempting to contact the player one more time in whispers and in say chat (shown in screenshot), user was given a temporary suspension for griefing.

If you are toxic, and are being so knowingly and intentionally…expect a time out. Many people have quoted the Rules of Conduct. It is enforced."

I know of a personal story instance that has an infinite supply of rats in LA sewers.

There are no drops in the personal story, so it doesn’t matter.

So turning those rats into candy would not give you a bag? I think I will try it out, I have a new 80 that has 0 personal story done.

I have a character at that story step already and tried it. You don’t get loot from personal story at all and this is no exception. The rats turn into candy corn elementals, you kill them and get nothing at all. Don’t waste your Maize Balm.

Well, if you already did the quest, then farm here (probably there are best places, I don’t know, sorry):

1st place: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Grand_Barrier_Isle
A lot of crows, fast respawn. Make a train, hit once only where 3 critters respawn, and let the others kill the rest.

2st place: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Half_Circle_Cove
North of waypoint, there is a small cave with 3 groups of 3 critters (6 frogs, 2rats+1 mosquito) and other 3 groups of 2 critters each. Long respawn, but not so crowded.

Enjoy

Then my bad i admit, i didn’t understand correctly what he was referring too, specially because i don’t follow reddit at all.

Yes they are definitely inconsistent and this goes to show u how things are handled inside their offices. It’s chaotic.

@arkclaw yea i’ve been trying to use those, i knew about them after so many 100% maps i’ve done. Problem is it’s no were near the efficiency of the instance where it’s just you (no other players/trolls) and a ton of critters. But yes from a non-instance pov those are among the best sadly.

Is there any way to get my own version of the incubation way point area in rata sum? The most efficient way they farm now is remake lv 2 Asura guards and party up with a single thrower of any class… preferably guard, ele, or engi; or so was the case until Thieve were found to be more efficient.

Because now they only want thieves as the caltrops dodge can kill stuff in such a way you don’t need to party for kill credit:

  • Is not needed to have a party
  • can kill faster than any class
  • Leaves everyone else out that wants to throw so no more lines or anything like originally.

Indeed.
Unintended consequence of the enforcement: farmers get to hold the area hostage.

I guess we all need GM friends.

My response on the reddit thread seems pretty pertinent here:

“Can I request my own megaserver shard for private farming?”

Why you even want to farm this? It doesnt seem even remotely worse it to me. Just farm gold and buy the bags on TP.
