What is good?
The gameplay, WWW and someistances

What is bad?
There were more good things, and each patch with few exceptions, takes away what is good from this game.

GW2 = great game, with bad management.

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

Guild Wars 2 is a very good game. It gives lots of different options to its players and caters almost for every gaming type (within mmo bounds of coarse). The reason for people being so hateful is because the game is so good and they enjoy it thoroughly and then the developers go and destroy the aspects they put time and effort in perfecting. That is why people rage so much on the forums.

If you don’t have a level 80 that has been made before the April patch with a complete personal story you will miss out on tonnes of the game. The April patch made it close to impossible to experience the freedom of swapping between builds of characters and the recent patch (September) has ruined leveling up and the personal story.
New players are seen as stupid and unable to ask for help in the game, so a step by step guide to leveling has been implicated into the game that leave little room for the imagination. The personal story has been level gated thus it flows very badly and may leave players frustrated. The end part has been swopped around and does not make sense anymore.

So if you stay away from leveling characters and the personal story the game is still a very good game. You might want to wait a few weeks though until Anet has removed all the bugs accompanied with the September patch.

This is what’s wrong with Guild Wars 2. It was a game that was made for the players. Not a game made to give the players the best experience. You can tell at times ANET is running on a serious budget because of the lack of a subscription.

To elaborate on this and yes, we have to compare it to WoW because WoW has undoubtedly been the best MMO.

In GW2 the instanced dungeons are pretty terrible and lack real rewards unless you essentially farm tokens. And this farming has lead to mindless repetition of COF where new players can’t even get five seconds to even watch the cut scenes without being left behind or booted.

In WoW you can essentially earn money by the means you choose to. If you want to farm crafting materials from enemies to sell you are not penalized by this. If you want to earn money by questing you can earn a lot of money on this alone. If you want to earn money by foraging that is also an great way. In GW2 the only way to farm. Yes, you can get 1 gold for a 10-30 minute dungeon but anything worth having costs 2000+ gold.

High level gear in this game can really only be obtained by crafting and that means having massive amounts of gold, which involves massive amounts of farming. So pretty much only the people that play a lot of hours or spend a lot of real money can get legendary gear. In, wow it’s a lot more rewarding and you get to choose how you want to get your high level gear. There is raiding, PVP, crafting, etc.

Raids I’m still not sure I consider the open world bosses in Guild Wars raiding.

And do not get me started on Zerg vs Zerg I mean Guild wars pvp.

I love that Guild Wars 2 is very casual and free after you buy. I stopped playing WoW because I was honestly playing that game way to much and it was costly. It’s a good game but if your looking for a more polished experience and can afford it just play WoW.

I don’t really think WoW has been the best MMO. I’d rather pay a subscription for Guild Wars 2 than play WoW for free. It’s been undoubtedly the most successful MMO, but I don’t believe anyone can claim it’s the best by a long stretch.

For a very long time they barely had competition, and they have a boatload of money to advertise. They got in early and they got in deep and that was that. I think they have done some good things, but over all, I think WoW has hamstrung the entire MMO genre, and I blame WoW and those copying WoW for the long stagnation in the MMO genre. If WoW hadn’t been successful, I’m convinced another company would have done it better eight years ago.

Yes. Just about everything with guild wars (minus the bugs that are being worked on) is good.

Unless you count the community and the forums. They suck. Seriously, this is the most hateful of the game community I’ve ever been a part of.

Nonsense. I have seen gaming communities as early as 1999 and Guild Wars’ community is quite decent albeit pretty limp-wristed at times but that’s this generation. However, some of the rage you see on these forums – and I’m not talking about the occasional person crying about Thieves being too OP or a nitpicking feminist that keeps demanding more male armour skins for her female character – is by passionate players that don’t want to see GW2 go under. That is the truth. Just because someone appears angry or hateful doesn’t mean it’s not for a good reason or that they are simply being hateful for the sake of hating something.

Let me leave you with this different perspective which may help you understand why people are so aggravated over the 9/9 update: “Hate is the purest expression of love; we hate that which threatens what we love, and so we will not simply bash – we will destroy what we hate.” That’s a little extreme but its basically what is going on here. I have seen nothing but impassioned people angry and scared at the direction of the game and it’s because they love this game, otherwise they wouldn’t go to such lengths.

Perhaps some people will understand what it means to feel angry and hate certain changes, in game and in life, because not all change benefits us in the long run.

I love GW2. I came into this game at release and it was like meeting the perfect girl, only she has become something else now, seemingly influenced by something outside of my control. I stuck with her through ups and downs but it is becoming harder and harder to hold on. My grip is slipping. I still don’t want to lose her, and hope she will realize what is happening to her..

The community in the game is still the best I’ve experienced so that is definitely a great thing about the game. There are lots of things to do, although I understand not everyone wants to do all the things available.
I don’t think this game’s dying. I see ton of people all over the place, the servers are full.
I think the fact this game lets you do what you want and how you want it ensures the steady population. (I’m no expert though)
The game has become less attractive because you cannot do what you want, if veteran players could do what they want, they wouldn’t have to have their hands held when starting a new character. This is a massive issue and unlike others, I do not see the anger dying out in a month :-(

There has never been a good war, or a bad peace.

In game community can be great, mostly very helpful. If not and they are being what you consider too obnoxious the block system is there. Forums are meh, really not a good place to get in game information on the general forums, players helping players forum is quite good at giving direction and specific answers. I really wish there was a block system for forums.
