Guild Wars 2

I have this growing feeling that gw2 is in fact really just in Beta state.
The game is not even marketed in Asia … I really doubt Anet, with their ambition to provide an E-sport, decided to NOT benefit from this playerbase.
Instead they are just finishing their product while benefitting from the income generated by “westerners”, who do not mind the game being incomplete (very poor PvE, limited pvp, unpolished and inconsistant).

My guess is, within the coming year the true final version of gw2 will be released. This will have the form of an expansion for us westerners, and the form of a complete game for Asians.

Likely, this release will include the much waited for GvG, without which this game would not be called Guild Wars .. and Cantha.

I played in the Beta and was here at release and I promise you this is not a beta.
It is instead an MMO in it’s first year.

All MMOs are in beta stage for at least a year. Most remain in perpetual beta state. MMOs are among the largest software products. It’s virtually impossible to finish them before you have to earn money somehow.

Take WoW for example, it’s effective beta stage carried on for over two years after release. By the 9 month mark, like GW2 is right now, it was almost unplayable due to lag, bugs or queues. Critical bugs would happen on a daily basis putting you on the back of the queue again. Several levels and areas didn’t have a single quest, forcing you into arduous grind. Two professions launched without talent trees at all while other professions had mostly junk talents.
In comparison, GW2 is in a very good shape.

Like has been said, every MMO’s first years are effectively beta, and even some past them few years feel that way. It’s slightly impossible to get everything in an actual beta mainly due to the fact that so much can go wrong and balance is very hard to tell when there is only a select amount of the community to test it.

They get a lot in a beta so that it is able to get released as an actual game but expecting it to be as good as WoW is now, or any other MMO that’s been around for years straight out of the box is just not gonna happen. I actually, personally feel GW2 is almost as good as WoW is at the moment. WoW is still changing everything for “balance” and making tweaks just like GW2 is, the difference is WoW had some pretty major changes at the beginning to even be playable whereas GW2 doesn’t necessarily need these changes it just makes the whole gameplay smoother and nicer. Bugs are different but every game will always have bugs so I wouldn’t class that as beta issues.

One reason that GW2 hasn’t been released to Asia, is because the publisher, NCSoft, has other games that are very popular there now, they might not want to compete with themselves -yet.

Not sure where you’re getting this “very poor PvE” thing from, because the pve in the game, for the most part, pretty solid. Some of the monsters are being changed so they aren’t just HP bags, which was a valid complaint they are working on. (On this very forum people complaining about old monsters with new powers – still needs a little tweaking in the balance department) and the atmosphere overall is very fluid and comfortable.

Considering how awful most MMOs are when they release GW2 is almost bug free by comparison.

And I played the Beta, this is most definitely not that; alot of things what could be fixed during beta, were. (even if I disagree with some of the changes) Now we’re in the year 1 phase where the bugs you’ll only find with a million people playing your game are going to pop up.

Usually my rule is not to even play an MMO for the first year – because year 1 can be so ick – but GW2 has been worth the exception.

No its not beta, millions of players have been playing nearly a year now, so how can it be beta?

Not released in Asia because it may effect sales of there other games, once those run out of steam, they will release GW2…

Developers do this all the time…the reason Blizzard didn’t release Diablo 3 for a decade is because they were scared it would effect WoW subscriptions, given Diablo 3 was free to play…

The main reasons games are delayed, released at certain times is down to market conditions…no other reasons…

Ten worst MMO launches of all time. WoW is featured on that list as a prime example. GW2 never even came close to such issues. In GW2 I could actually play on launch day … that alone is an achievement in terms of polish.

The GW2 Mac client is Beta. So partially yes.

Maybe the OP plays on a Mac?

Yeah, shame on Arenanet for wanting to constantly release new updates and content – it’s as if this game will never be considered finished!
