Is this a bannable offense?
They don’t do anything about botting anyway so not sure what you’re worried about. Also, no this isn’t a bot situation unless you are using an external program to keep you in the game, such as a program to macro putting down your turrets and activating skills. Then by technical definition you are botting, though it won’t matter. lol
If you have to ask then it’s probably a bad idea.
Yes it is. There’s a “I got banned for auto-repairing turrents / putting my AoE on autocast” thread around here somewhere. It may be a feature of the game, but you’re exploiting it to automate gameplay, aka botting.
It’s not necessarily bannable as long as you move around and actually collect loot every once in awhile. ANET wont ban you for going AFK for only 5 minutes.
Also, from my experience, this isn’t that good a farm in the first place.
Absolutely. Any so it should be. You are exploiting a game mechanic to play they game while not being present.
As Healix said, it may be a feature of the game, but you’re exploiting it to automate gameplay, aka botting.
It isn’t botting if you are not using a malicious 3rd party program to compromise the game. I’d advise to regularly take movement, collect loot & be active in game.

Whats your point. He clearly stated he used an “auto cast” feature to cast AoEs. Unless i missed where they put and auto cast clicker in game, that is pretty 3rd party to me.
Anytime you are gaining in the game, be it loot, XP, or something else, while not controlling the game yourself, it is exploiting.
Okay being an engineer I have a mixed view on this.
If you have to pee, then fine, put down a turret and pee. If break is gonna take a bit longer, than don’t do it.
During an event, I will take a turrent (I don’t run turrets now but when I did) and set it down at the other side/entrance/wave/whatever of an event. Then go back to where I was. This means that I am now covering at least 2 sides of the field, and getting credit for more kills because I hit more mobs. This means I get more loot, more exp, and a higher chance at gold.
However, I do not afk during this. I do not see what I do as an exploit because I am simply using what is available to my class to max advantage. For me it’s no different than mass spawning aoe’s at an event to get credit for it. When using turrets my main weapon was a rifle, so I was lacking in any serious aoe power. Using a turret the way I did made up for that.
Sidenote: I now use bombs and get into the fray so this is no longer a problem for me.
However, afking while using your turrets to get credit is just dirty. I at least was participating in the event I was getting credit for….
It doesn’t really matter unless you have an automated program for you to collect loot. If I throw down a turret just in case and go take a dump, you think I should be banned? Sure it’s pretty dumb in that scenario but hey, if we banned people every day for being dumb we would have no players at some point or another.
Edit: Also for that specific event you would probably die anyways. The only issue is that you could collect loot via the event but it doesn’t happen constantly like mob spawning so you could probably even blame it on a lag-out or something

In my experience, a GM checks on you in persona if your reported for this, and attempts to contact you in a whisper or /say chat, so if you there to answer your okay, if your not, you are judged as AFK exploiting, and handled as they see fit.
I have sen this happen in game, and I feel it is very appropriate.
