It’s an alt “boost” item. Look at the description of the item =) that’s why you also get tomes of mentorship. The whole item is designed for boosting an alt. You also get a bunch of other stuff like a cool unique skin for your 80.

Not to 64bit users.

Are you running a 32 bit Windows or 64bit Windows?

Are you using the 32bit GW2 client (default) or using the 64bit GW2 client?

If you’re using a 64bit Windows and 64bit GW2 client, you shouldn’t be getting crashes. I haven’t crashed a single time since they released the 64bit client.

just because YOU haven’t had a crash since switching to 64bit does not invalidate those of us who have had crashes on the 64 bit. since the patch game is unplayable for me and others whilst and at the same time running the supposed game saving 64 bit client. prior to the patch I had only a few crashes since going to 64 bit

Yes but both parties are speaking from anecdotal experience… and oddly invalidating each other’s lived experiences.

3+yrs slowly completing my personal storyline & i get to what i asssume is the final cutscene..BAM, Crash :{{
so, i redo it a couple times.. finally get through the cutscene & what do i get .. my choice of a level 18 item..ARE YOU Kidding ME. you can’t even complete the personal story line quest chain without being lvl 80. what good is a lvl18 item @ max level. This was a HUGE slap in the face, thx for your money from A-net far as i’m concerned.

That item is intended for your other toons, not the one completing the personal story. It’s level 18 with stats somewhat above the usual.

So, no, not a joke.

This is the truth right here. In other games it’s called twinking. You can look it up. It’s done in WoW all the time.

You twink your alts so they level faster.

i am very familiar with twinking out a toon, which would be impossible in this game. Twinking is giving/getting highest possible items for a character that is not going to be leveled higher than a certain bracket. Basically giving that character an advantage over other non-twinked players in the same bracket. (e.g.. a lvl 18 character, running gear with a stat level of 28). Since this game automatically adjusts your level while in PvP/WvW & the Pve content forces experience gain.. It is IMPOSSIBLE to “Twink” a character.
Lol, not to mention even in WoW, experience is forced even in the battlegrounds & has been this way for many years.

If you think this reward item is to help you level another character think again.
by the time you receive this reward…more than likely you’ll be able to create an item with the same or better stats using a previously leveled character & even if you couldn’t create it, you could find a comparable one on the trading post for next to nothing.
which really wouldn’t make a difference anyhow, because the item would be replaced within 1hour of game play via ingame rewards.

to all the others, saying "the crash is because i am playing on a “Mac” system".
LOL… now you’re joking. i have the game on multiple high-end gaming units with varied OSes. (win 7 ultimate 64, win XP 32bit, OS X mavericks & OS X Yosemite(mac os can be booted in 64 or 32bit modes).
Out of all the units, the Mac client has been more stable & crashes less than the “PC” version from the time A-net released the mac beta client.
so based on experience of playing the game from closed beta through current releases.
the most stable client is the Mac beta.
i understand the game can crash no matter which client is used.. i just found it comical; that it crashed on the final cutscene of the personal storyline.
and, yes.. given what i stated earlier .. the lvl 18 reward for completing a lvl 80 quest..
is a big ol’e disappointment from A-net.

my original post was not intended to sound like a gripe; but merely to show how disappointing the game can be at times.

The rewards in HoT a generally trash, just a way to fill up your inventory.

It’s called Inventory Wars now.

Jumping puzzles, love them or hate them, I hate them. Thread killer.

I’m not sure what twinking means, but those items are indeed for leveling other characters on your account. There are a whole bunch of them, each with several possible levels. They operate at a higher level than the minimum level required, thus making leveling characters easier.

For example, you might get one that requires level 58, but it will operate in your combats as if it were level 61 (even if you are not). So, you basically get to kill stuff faster (or, in the case of armor, protect yourself better).

Note that you can also craft some things that are similar as well.

I personally found the rewards for killing an elder dragon to be less than whelming.

What do they give you (according to wiki and is outdated in part).

  • 13 badges of loot (more blues and greens. Some mats. Some harvesting tools. Yeah!)
  • Dragonite (I am in dire need of that, let me tell you)
  • Skill point and influence (outdated information, but when it was true… Let me put that skill point with my other (unused) skill points. Influence, ok. Get to help my guild. /shrug)
  • Pact weapon container. Choose one (not very useful as it is rare, not exotic, but not completely useless. Can always buy one from the trading post, so not particularly exclusive).
  • Then the mentoring supplies. With how cheap gear is and how fast you can level, again, less than whelming. When I’m leveling up a char by playing, I don’t even bother to get new gear until I’m about 10-15 levels above what I have. Neither do I bother giving it tomes or scrips. When I do buy gear I buy some cheap greens for a couple of silver each. Not really end game elder dragon killing reward worthy.

Compare that to Guild Wars 1. As I recall, only one thing, but it was that game’s version of an ascended weapon and you got to choose the stats you wanted. My Ritualist was glad to get and equip the best weapon possible for her.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.
