Having just logged in I received an in game mail informing me that in 72 hours (around about HoT’s released) my account will be ‘limited’ due to questionable currency transactions, or abnormal login. (what even IS that? I’m the only one with this account, and I don’t send/sell gold to others etc.) In order to remove these restrictions I have to go to the following url: [redacted by request]The mail is signed GM En Kiwi Kans.

At the bottom of the mail is the usual disclaimer that this mail is from a player and not from a member of the GW2 staff.

I’ve never received any sort of notification in game from GW2 staff, so I have no idea what form it would take.

I have not opened the link, lest this IS a scam, and need to know if this mail and the player who sent it is running a scam and needs to be reported to ANet.

Any advice would be appreciated!

If the mail says it’s not from the GW2 staff why would it be from GW2 staff?

It’s a well known scam. I think there is a sticky about it in this subforum https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Alert-In-Game-Mail-Scams/first

Report the mail then delete and ignore it.

Oh and please remove the link. Never advertise these things on a forum – ppl do fall for it…

It’s absolutely a scam, check the sticky message at the top of this forum. Sent by a player, containing a link you can’t access without laboriously typing it out in a browser (links don’t work in in-game mail), with poor grammar. ANet mail will always have the red ANet logo on it. (Though oddly enough my Happy Birthday mail doesn’t, though I’ve removed the gift from it so that may be why).

Please edit out the link info from your OP so no one has the chance to be stupid enough to use it.

What? Nooooo. That’s TOTALLY legitimate. You should absolutely go to that incredibly-legit-looking website and enter in every bit of information they tell you to enter. Nothing bad can POSSIBLY happen!

Oh, how I long for a world with a populace no longer susceptible to such obvious kittencrap. -Sid

That’s a scam.
Think of it this way:

1. If you had any issue with your account, they would contact you OUTSIDE of the game(via email), not within.

2. The URL in question here is obviously a fake url. s745..w.e that part alone should tip you off, but the rest of the URL is pretty sketchy too.

3. Take note from whom this was sent. If Kiwi Kans was the sender, check them out on the forums. Basically research their name to see if they truly are a GM or not. Though, a GM wouldn’t send you a link in-game for account recovery and they wouldn’t send mail like this either.

Conclusion: Report the sender and don’t click the link.

Okay, thanks. I had pretty much assumed this was a scam, I’ve just never had any reason/occasion to look in the accounts forum. Going to take care of reporting this mail right away.

Additionally, I removed the link as requested.
