I am absolutely astounded, I mean literally in awe.. at the new “feature” pack released yesterday. I’ve never in my whole time as a gamer, felt more insulted by the developers than I do right now. As a vet player, someone who was here for OB, why in the world do you think after 2 yrs of playing, any of the changes made in this release were necessary. As far as the unlocking skills, skill points/vistas/gathering nodes/dodging/so on so forth, these are things that I should not be forced to wait to unlock at predetermined levels. A great many of these things you made level locked/specific, are core features to knowing how to play the game.

What exactly was it (or rather who, so I can hit them over the head with a shoe) that made you guys decide we needed our hands held like toddlers learning to use the potty. Especially your vet players. This is a complete insult to our intelligence and a blatant “We think you guys aren’t playing the game as intended, let’s give everyone a re-visit back to the basics. We promise it won’t hurt, maybe.” No, it doesn’t hurt, but it does make at least me wonder who exactly are you catering to.

If someone’s been playing for 2yrs, I’m fairly sure that when they go to make a new character, they don’t need a tutorial to do it. They don’t need their dodge roll taken away (If I want to dodge roll off a cliff that’s surely going to kill me, for the love of Grenth, let me. There is a method to my madness, dangit.) So now I have to wait till lv40 to unlock my elite? I can’t wander back to the lowbie zones on one of my 3 lv80’s to gather, and enjoy the beauty of the area, which I did quite often and when I did that, I was more enticed to spend time there helping new players to the game. What’s the point now. I’m almost scared to make a new character, and have to deal with this ridiculous ‘help’ and changes being forced on us.

Why Anet? :/ We really aren’t as unintelligent as you seem to think we are. Promise.

Please give us an opt out for this if we’ve got a lvl60-80 char. If we don’t know how to play the game by that point, we’re doomed whether you put a tutorial in there or not.

I am however thankful that things that should of been fixed/added long ago, were finally handled. Such as some of the TP features, guild features and some of the bug fixes, so thank you for that none the less.

Remember: this was meant to be a WOW rival, with casual and hardcore players alike catered for equally.

“Jus shu’up and shoot caeks old man that’s all u r good for now that we r here!” is basically what this patch is telling the players that have spent some real time and money in this game.

Dunno why it’s surprising they spent a whole month talking about it. I thought at first this was going to be another one of those “there’s not enough content” threads but I do actually agree with you on the alts thing, however, I’m surprised that more people weren’t talking about it last feature patch when they did what they did to traits. All you guys are late to the game really when it comes to alts. The rest of us were telling you Alts were being punished last time where is everyone? Oh right they were polishing their Oath videos.

Maybe they just delayed it.
I mean, these few months. You know, that only means next is SAB and i am very hyped for that. I mean, if the jokes is to late, then the mainfeature must be too, right?

It’s not surprising, it’s insulting. I’m speaking purely (well, mostly purely) on the rigamarole we’re gonna have to go through anytime we want to make an alt now. I had read the feature pack info/watched the videos, but I suppose they didn’t quite explain the actual impact it would be having on vet players. I guess I can maybe (and that’s a stretch) understand some of the changes made for a more noob friendly starting game, but my gods, it did NOT need this level of dumbing down. Not by far.

I feel like I’m suddenly playing a game geared for 7-10yr old audiences, instead of the kickarse GW2 I loved up until yesterday.

I won’t quit, not outright, but I now see myself being slowly pushed away till I find a game that doesn’t pull the carpet out from under its long term veteran players. I also see no point now in ever purchasing another character slot either

enigma.4873, I like the way you think and cuss. Nice to know other people feel the same way I do. Thank you – as I’ve said elsewhere in the forums, I have major issue with the updates, more so (in my case, at this time) with the Black Lion trading post which is no longer fit for purpose.

I feel violated by the new leveling system please anet let me choose my skills don’t force one upon me it feels like i’m 5 when i play i dont mind some of the locked things like story but really we arnt that stupid give us old timers a choice to turn it off give us back our freedom you are choking a great game with stuff that wasn’t needed

There are 40 pages of people complaining about the new trait system and how kitten it is. Anet didn’t take us seriously apparently.

Then GW2 came, and we all agreed to sacrifice this on the altar of “balance”.

Accessibility has been sacrificed on another altar.

It’s okay guys… this is clearly a bug in the game. They would never INTENTIONALLY screw up their game like this.

This is all one giant glitch/bug and will be fixed ASAP, so we can continue gaming as normal.

I totally agree with the OP. If this is not some late April fools joke, perhaps the joke is on Anet for all the people who will finally leave the game and find greener pastures. I have played since release and “played the game the way I wanted to play it” to the best of my ability. Hence Anet doesn’t let you play the game much of any way anymore. I have played for 4,032 hours over the past 746 days. I don’t think I will EVER make another character again. I don’t even care if new classes/races come out. Actually I just purchased a character slot < a month ago and want a refund. So disappointed. I don’t even have to remind myself I AM NOT CHINA but Anet seems to try to shove it down my throat. If i wanted to play China’s Guild Wars 2 version….. I would move there. Where is our American version back.

The guy I saw in the YouTube video was level 3, I think. So, he was clearly strong enough to survive being one-shotted by monsters there, which is fortunate for him since he didn’t have access to downed state to recover.

As for the topic duscussion, I won’t involve too much, since I am also entertained by the fact that developers do not give a sweet kitten about the outcry from the communty about the “Feature Pack” “update” and / or more bug introductions.

I just realized that yesterday. I’ll be playing ArcheAge in six days. Unless Arenanet does something about China Wars 2, I’ll be uninstalling this game.

After leveling 21 characters to lv 80. 3000+ hours of play. I made a new characters and ANet basically told me

1. nope, you don’t know what a downstate is, it is too hard for you to comprehend, so for this next character and every new character you make we will make you wait 5 levels"

2. you don’t know how to mine a copper ore nor cutting down a tree, sorry, wait a few levels before you can chop those trees down

3. you can’t proceed with your personal story because it’s too hard, your level is not good enough while i have a lv 80 friend helping me out. nope, no personal story til lv 10.

etc….

sigh. That’s why I don’t make any more new character. It’s a torturing experience.

Thank you, Enigma for sharing that video. I can’t think of a single MMO that treats new players like total idiots more succinctly than GW2’s “New Player Experience”.

Wrong. There were rumors being spread that existing accounts (and their subsequent alts) would not be affected by this horrendous patch. Only new player accounts would be given pacifiers and taught how to walk. If ANY new character (regardless of when the account was created) is subjected to this nightmare than veterans have just been shown the door.

The more I hear about these leveling changes, the more surprised I am about how patently awful they are. Maybe if this was a mobile game, it would make more sense. But GW2 is so far from that any attempt will not attract mobile gamers and cost them PC/console gamers.

I have to admit, I’m seriously questioning their judgement on these decisions, and no longer have the confidence in the future of this game I once did.

To be fair, there were some good aspects to the game over those 2 years. There were a lot of improvements to WvW. And there were some improvements to PvE, for awhile. But, the bad far outweighs the good. The days at launch of getting slaughtered by champions until you realized that you can’t solo them at low levels are gone. Even the champion trains in Queensdale, which were annoying as anything, were a lot more fun than this dumbed down mess that we have now. I’ve never had less fun in PvE than I had last night.
