80 attempts on the great junglewurm ;
40 times defeated

And 2 exotics

200 hours of Organisation , explaining and helping new players that they can defeat it and 2 exotics .

Is this really fun A-net ?

Edit – There should be a healthy balance between

Difficulty & Time offered + rng and progess

You can waiste your whole time on hard content in gw2, but you wont earn any progess ,if the rng doesnt tricker.
So it feels like running into a wall , with no chance climbing over it

I do those bosses cause I like doing them…. not because I get a shiny. If I were just after shinies, I wouldn’t be playing this (or any MMO really). There are better games out there for loot.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Quite honestly, I dont’ really know.

Because I probably wont’ even logon, getting reward is the only thing that keep me playing.

That’s quite sad.

Yeah sorry, if you’re playing this game for the loot you really are doing it wrong. That is not to say there is something wrong with loot mongering, it’s just that this game has never been good for providing quality loot for the work. Expecting otherwise is just an exercise in futility. Thus why, unless you’re keen on exercising futility, you’re doing it wrong.

If you don’t play the content because you enjoy the content, then there is really no point in playing this game. That’s why I’ve been playing the game significantly less since they changed how some of the bosses spawn. I enjoyed being able to log in whenever and be within half an hour of the Ulgoth chain starting, if it wasn’t already in process. That’s how I leveled my characters and it worked really well. Now that I can’t do that I’m less inclined to log in at all except to farm JP chests.

This game does not reward you well for doing high caliber things. Its sad and stupid that way. Who knows maybe they will stop doing this to their player base. Repetitive things should give less gold than once a day fights.

As for enjoying the content… you can really only enjoy something a million times before it becomes repetitive which most things in this game do become very easily.

And this above post is why just recently two entire guilds I know just quit. Each day more and more people I know are leaving the game for other options. What this tells me is they all can’t be wrong as they all have the exact same complaints.

There has been and probably always will be a very large lack of rewards or rewarding feelings in this game. The play it because it’s fun or you enjoy the content only works so long. Keep in mind the game as of today is close to exactly the way it was over a year ago when it was released.

Someone phrased it very well though – Thinking anything in GW2 will change at this point is an exercise in futility.

Now go enjoy your year old content.

Amazingly enough this exact post has been on these forums for a year and a half. And I recall this from basically every single game I have played in the last 15 years.

I recently was looking at Penny Arcade and I read the following comic that is somewhat on this topic:

http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2014/04/07/time

This got me thinking about loot time and rarity. The community is very vocal on it a lot of people hate it. Blame it on RNG. Hate on RNG. Saying RNG is horrible. When in fact although there is RNG in the game. The majority of things that are behind a RNG can be bypassed. The problem is bypassing RNG does not feel rewarding. Getting lucky feels rewarding. Something that happens rarely feels rewarding. Although something that overall may be rare. If it happens to us too frequently or takes too long to make it does not feel rewarding.

Loot the majority of the time is actually useful. You get materials that you can use to combine with other materials to get nice looking and useful items. Or you can sell your unneeded items for gold that you can use to get the materials toward your goal. The problem with loot and rarity in most cases is not a problem with the design in the game. It is a problem with what we value. Time and our ability to be in the moment. The game should be it’s own reward. The items that we need to move forward in our goal should feel rewarding also. However they are not.

The trick with RNG is finding the balance between Time Spent/Difficulty and the amount that is rewarded. But yet not have something be so common that it turns into a situation that rare items don’t feel rewarding. Where the balance is I honestly don’t know. That is why I try to play the game for the games sake not the loot. Otherwise I too would have likely quit long ago.

What you’re describing is WoW-style raiding. And the answer is no it’s not fun, so people need to STOP ASKING FOR WOW-STYLE RAIDS IN THIS GAME.

Is this really fun A-net ?

Fun is subjective. I find endlessly theorizing about mythology and histories fun. Many people do not. Some people think snowboarding is fun. Tried it, worst experience of my life. No one can make this game fun for you. Only you can make it fun for you. If doing those things aren’t fun, don’t do them. It’s simple really. It’s like getting mad at the ice cream vendor for selling you some ice cream you didn’t like. It’s not his fault. Overall it’s silly and ignorant to expect a game to cater to your specific ideas of fun. Just saying….

“You know what the chain of command is?
It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”

You guys have to realize that the Teq and Wurm raids don’t really offer enough reward for the amount of organizing that goes into them.

Especially now that they’ve been put on a timer and you can do them just 1/day for the loot.

The issue again is that the rewards for these bosses should have been token-based cosmetic rewards.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

Remove the loot from world bosses and events.
Lets see what happens next.
While we’re at it, remove dungeon rewards too.

We play the wurm for the adrenaline, not the loot (cause there is no loot). Though the adrenaline starts wearing of when killed ~30times.

A lot of gamers and I play MMOs because it provides goal and progress oriented gameplay.

Many things fit into those categories:

  • Relationship with your guildmates
  • Refining your build
  • Obtaining your favorite armor set
  • Gaining titles, achievements and items that mark milestones in your play time

So when you think about it:

Rewards → Milestone items or your favorite armor
or
Rewards → Gold → Milestone items or your favorite armor
or
Rewards → Better stat items to refine your build
or
Rewards → Gold → Better stat items to refine your build

Therefore:

Rewards are not separate from goals
Rewards are not separate from progress
Rewards are not separate from fun
