And a man who trusts no one is a fool.
We are all fools, if we live long enough.”
But you’re obviously wrong. There are frequently new players in the starting zone, there’s little to no pressure to even use the cash shop, and the game shows no signs of struggling at all.
Even the numbers you throw out are based on literally nothing.
The game might not be dead, But I’m bored of playing it.
And to top it off, the reward is not worth the effort. You are rewarded a random lottery chest. So if I go in there and play my Mesmer, I expect to be able to get tokens or something to get Mesmer gear. No. I get a lottery chest that gives me random gear. Because I totally want heavy armor on my Mesmer. It is frustrating to say the least.
There is just no incentive to play it.
This, this is the big thing along with class balance and the culling in WvW, the sheer lack of reward for activities.
they need a better endgame. and it shouldnt be a unique location grind.
(“grinding” is ok for me, but geez, be smart enough to force me to grind only the fraktal).
it feels like there is a post like this every other day…
the game isn’t dead, true maps are more empty now then a few months back but i suspect it’s because most of the people are on WvWvW. (haven’t played sPvP so can’t comment on that).
It is getting harder to find parties to dungeons, but it’s probably just because people are furstrated of the amount of time and effort you need to invest in finding one.
this could’ve been easily fixed if GW2 would’ve adapted the same way Starcraft II and Diablo III joined groups – you just click on join button and automatically get memebers…
just pay to win..
2-3 dollars is worth 20-30 hours of grinding.
I haven’t laughed so hard.
They sold 2 million the told us about. Maybe another 500 000 since then. And the actually amount of people playing is but a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of that.
GW2 has peaked. It’s now a struggle to retain and push them into the cash shop. Growth is over.
that’s why new servers open and I see new people every day? That’s why in the starter zones you hear “I’m new, please help”. That’s why so many gifted GW2 to their friends for Christmas. If it was a struggle, the game would be so much cheaper to get. Servers would close. New ones wouldn’t be opening.
How many servers has GW2 had to merge/shut down? Those other games had already lost up to half their servers this far in.
No they hadn’t.
I don’t think any game has started merging servers within three to four months of release, and certainly none of the titles listed there did.
I haven’t laughed so hard.

OMG Mirta you are so wrong it hurts.
Look at this i’m about to post just so you can get it into prespective how GW2 is doing with new players. (VG charts isn’t always a reliable source but it is the only source we have).
Like with ALL games and hardware, it reaches one of it’s highest points on release and then just drops and drops and drops.
If this game was doing well, ANet would be advertising numbers.
They are not.
And let’s not forget this gem which started well over 100 000 hours at launch…
http://beta.xfire.com/games/gw2
Player engagement has absolutely evaporated.
If this game was doing well, ANet would be advertising numbers.
They are not.
I don’t think that’s verifiable proof of a company not doing well. Guild Wars 1 was a wild success and I may be wrong here, but I don’t recall them advertising the playerbase for that. While it may seem like there are no players, there are clearly enough to keep ANet in business, which would imply that there -is- a semblance of success.
this endgame is lame like wow, everyone in main city spamming for dungeon groups

I wouldn’t say guildwars was a wild success in terms of population. It was a fun game sure but remember that game wasn’t competing with every other MMO on the market as it filled a niche.
This game does not, it is being compared to WoW and all of its clones for a reason.
It’s not verifiable proof you are absolutely right, but its a good indication. If companies have a reason to boast, they generally do – its good marketing.
The game is doing very well:
- Most of the 2012 Game of the Year awards
- Other MMOs including WoW are in decline (check Vivendi’s numbers and the fact that 1/3rd of WoW servers are dead and need to be merged, but won’t)
- ArenaNet is still hiring more people while everyone else is laying people off
- Servers were actually increased in capacity in end December due to complains about them being too full, they all went from Full to High so more people could make chars
- The game is earning truckloads of money for ArenaNet, there was a research report from just a week ago from a brokerage firm saying that Q1 2013 was going to be huge on the back of growing GW2 sales
These are the facts.
Why am I not surprised it’s Zeldain and Kakeru spouting this bull about the game being in trouble again, like every day.
Guys, get over it, GW2 is already a huge success. The population is high, the game is popular, it’s the best MMO out there and it’s still growing.
But please, feel free to continue doomsaying since it keeps you here and enjoying yourself xD

I have seen this exact quote so many times over the years except replace GW2 with any other MMO of your choice

1) No, they won like 2?
2) Probable, not really relevant, I doubt people will leave WoW for a f2p buggy unpolished version of it.
3) Blizzard is still hiring too, point?
4) That is because of the way this game’s servers work, this game hasn’t grown in playerbase since release that is certain.
5) Source? Not being a dick just curious.
On GotY – Journey, Borderlands2, Walking Dead, XCOM and Farcry were the most popular choices.
(edited by nofo.8469)
a) GW2 won nearly all the GOTY awards for 2012, including all the major publications:
- IGN
- G4
- PCGamer
- Gamespot
- Massively
- etc
as well as minor ones like Time, Zam, etc (lol)
b) Blizzard has already downsized and is continuing to downsize, and Vivendi is even looking to sell it off
c) The playerbase of GW2 has increased, we were there and actually saw the server capacity go up in both regions all at the same time in December
d) Stop spreading misinformation. If you don’t want to play the game fine, spending so much time trying to make everyone else believe it’s dying when it’s actually growing is just weird xD

Also Mists of Pandaria are selling at the same rate as GW2. But GW2 is dying and most popular MMO WoW is not, even though they’re both selling at the same rate?
(edited by Mirta.5029)
Journey is not a PC game, it’s a PS3 exclusive. PC GOTY is what we care about, since we’re playing on PC.
And GW2 = that game.
Oh wait, you’re just a troll.
You were apparently bored of the game 3 months ago, Fernling, yet you’re still here doomsaying. I see you and nofo have something in common. It’s obvious you’re a fanboy for some other game and are coming here to stir up a fuss.
Well sorry to break it to you, but GW2 is an excellent game with the most GOTY awards for 2012, and is doing very well and making record amounts of money. Just the way it goes.
I guess spreading misinformation and lies spices things up in your otherwise boring life xD
lmao ouch.
Sorry to burst your bubble but you don’t seem to know what game of the year actually is.
edit: calling everyone who points out your lies a troll isn’t helping your cause.

I’m sorry, but you are completely wrong in just about everything you just posted.
The game did not meet my expectations. Compare the actual game to the manifesto and everything else they said pre-release and you would understand why.
When you compare games, you compare games. It’s a very broad market and should not be narrowed down into specific consoles. That’s like saying you can’t compare Forza and Gran Turismo because they are xbox and ps3 exclusive. It doesn’t work that way for anyone, which is why they have an overall GOTY award.
p.s. I don’t play WoW.
lmao ouch.

you’re also comparing genres. Would you compare Sonic to Left 4 Dead? Now you’re comparing Journey (on a console) to an MMO on PC. Don’t you have anything better to do than to troll a forum for 3 months?

The denial is strong with this one.
Guild Wars 2 sold, perhaps, 2 million copies, maybe a touch more. It’s been estiamated that perhaps there are 500,000 active players. Still better than most other MMOs, but lets face it, this game is free.
Most importantly… the number of players Guild Wars 2 has right now is more than it will ever have. Ever. There is no growth.
So WoW has 9,500,000 more active players than GW2 – and those players are willing to pay per month.
THink about it.

SW:TOR was the game of the year last year from the same sources. You can see how reliable that is.
There are a decent amount of troll that on this site claim the game is “dying” and list some absurd evidence or make some silly claim they cant back up
When the servers have to be merged (lots of merges not just the one or 2 bottom ones) then you can say the game is dying. The game is doing just fine, its still highly populated.
It sold 2 million 2 weeks into its release…
THe troll is strong in this one
And… not significant amount since. Maybe they sold another 500,000 – that’s it. The peak is past. It’s in decline. You don’t see any announcements do you? Nope. That’s because it will do more harm than good to announce.
Savor this day. Because this day will be better than tomorrow. And tomorrow better than the day after that. As GW2 declines, there’s no better day than today. Think about that.
I think the whole GOTY thing is a moot point anyway. Who takes them seriously? Everyone knows it’s like any other award in the ‘entertainment industry’ … who you know, who you blow, and who you give your dough.
It sold 2 million 2 weeks into its release…

Selling 30 000 units a week, not tracking digit is a significant amount. Mist of Pandaria, the most successful WoW expansion is selling less, successful live MMOs normally stabilize at selling 2 000 a week or less and are still alive and well. Growth of 30 000 people a week is a significant amount. I don’t think that you realize that.

You have little to no evidence to back any of this up. The game reached number 5 on amazon for video game sales during the holidays.
I must say their business practice must be terrible. They are hiring on the front page. Bad business practice to be hiring when according to you the game is crashing and burning.
I give his troll a 5/10

It doesn’t work that way for anyone, which is why they have an overall GOTY award.you’re also comparing genres. Would you compare Sonic to Left 4 Dead? Now you’re comparing Journey (on a console) to an MMO on PC. Don’t you have anything better to do than to troll a forum for 3 months?
I don’t troll the forums… I rarely post in the forums and I still play GW2 several times a week. Hell, I have even purchased an extra $40 in gems. I just don’t like the lack of “passion” they put into the game. It feels like the same thing Blizzard started doing to WoW years ago. I miss the work and attention they put into Gw1.
Use the search button. Stop remaking posts. I play on one of the smallest population server and theirs ppl every where and I always have things to do. The problem is you.
No you haven’t hahahhaa.
Link all the GotY awards for the sites you mentioned, go on.
I wouldn’t bother.
SW:TOR was the game of the year last year from the same sources. You can see how reliable that is.
Oh I know, just calling him on spouting lies while telling everyone else to stop doing so in the same post.

Just a few. Here i am feeding the trolls. I should be ashamed
The game is not dead, but individual servers are dead or dying.
Like Fissure of Woe
… sigh …
The game isnt dead yet, may not be for a year or more but if Anet don’t get out there and fix what they’ve broken, i cannot see it surviving forever, the quote above proves that.. Loot restrictions in open world, Karka event and the horrible fotm all helped destroy a lot of GW2 populations…
The populations are leaving faster than gaining new players..so its only a matter of time, if nothings fixed asap..
No you haven’t hahahhaa.

Never said the game never won any awards.
But how many of those are game of the years?
Considering the fact that the 2 million mark has been hit in September, it´s very unlikely that the game “only” sold 500.000 copies since then. They´re still in the charts in Germany on 6th position for example. The “panda incident” is not even in the top 10 anymore…

2. Still you expect an mmo to win game of year awards? Pc game of the year is high enough prestige.
