the link code is [&AgExjgAA] also known simple as ‘Sickle’ having the icon of an axe, rarity of fine being only a lvl 80. you can see it on trade post as a sword type weapon. i’ve been in gw2 since beta days and never seen this item in game. and i’m not much of a trade post diver and normally restrict my search fields when looking for certain items. but after tripping over this item i find its got 0 on tp and cant have an order placed on it.

so is this some sort of joke arenanet is pulling on trade post? the wiki literally has 0 info on this exact item and pings every other sickle item in the game.

Well… whether it’s been added recently for a future release whether it’s… I don’t know what it is.

It uses the same ingame model as the “Copper Harvesting Sickle”. Not sure if its an actual weapon or not, but theres other weapons on TP that don’t seem like they should exist. Might be a bug or possibly items that are just rare/removed from the game.

I am positive this item has never been in game before, thus i figure its a mean joke anet has put there some time ago and never removed. true there are other tp goofs but they are otherwise weapons they could have been bought or sold at some time.

Datamined items are not to be assumed to be legitimate items until you actually see one being worn, craftable, dropped, or for sale. I make the assumption that 90% of the datamined chat codes are total kitten as far as “legitimacy” and are troll items.

sickle has been on the trade post for some time, anyone can preview it in game off the tradepost by typing in sickle or searching fine lvl 80 swords. so i wouldnt call it datamined when its been percent on tp for any multi-month to a year+ time frame, something only arenanet has control over

Most games have things like this – models, text, abilities, even complete characters that never actually made it into the game but were also never completely removed. Either because someone thought they might be used at some point or because they were forgotten. GW1 for example had tons of text descriptions about different locations, mainly in Cantha, which were in the .dat file but never actually appeared in the game.

Most of the time they just sit buried in the files and are only uncovered by data miners as curiosities.

Sometimes, in games which support 3rd party mods they’re taken and used by fans who like the idea.

Sometimes they find their way in through bugs. The most well know (for my generation at least) is probably the various Missingno pokemon. When the first Pokemon game was being made bits and pieces of scrapped pokemon designs and other stray code was all dumped into one place in the games memory. Somehow it ended up with enough stray bits that worked together to make a set of almost functional pokemon that would appear in game if you did various weird things that caused the game code to look in the wrong place for a file to load. Kids used to trade stories on how to find them and dare each other to try even after knowing some could wipe your save file.

I do agree that some stuff are left in the game data just because it’s a waste of time to remove them. However, for the polearm for example, the weapon icon has been updated. Why modify something they don’t plan to implement?

Because it could be an item used by NPCs or enemies? If you’re talking about the inventory image sprite, it may have been updated because of another, and legitimately attainable, weapon shares the skin. For example, that one pvp rifle that shares the same skin as the Hunter and caused a lot of people to flip out and think they salvaged a prec.

The icon changed from a spear to a halberd. That’s what’s tickling me atm, why change something to be more specific since we can’t get that something anyway?

Totally offtopic, but I once went to a comedy club and watched a hypnotist get someone to sing that song with fingerpuppets. That kitten was hilarious.

There is actually a dagger in the skin locker which uses the copper sickle skin. Not earnable though. I think the name was soul harvester or something like that

While being able to see something in the wardrobe or the TP doesn’t mean it’s available, not being able to see it in both means without a doubt that it’s not available.

There are tons of items that have chat codes but aren’t obtainable. You can find a lot of them here

Some of them are pretty fun to annoy people with.
