Dude, the game has a level based item system and very few content. So yes, they will be adding armor because there will be nothing else to do other then grinding, at least until they release some expansion.

“Adding item progression is a delicate process normally undertaken in an expansion, but we feel it’s important to strive to satisfy the basic needs of our players sooner rather than later.”

Sounds like this is a special case – a fix to a problem – so you can assume there won’t be another tier, until an expansion that is.

Does level 81 gear count?

I am asking for new tier not new armor, they are different and all I can find is this response ""We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on."" This doesn’t really answer my question here.

They said they wouldn’t “add a new tier every three months.” They didn’t say they never would. They just said it wouldn’t be frequent.

Common, Uncommon, Masterwork, Rare, Exotic was already way too many for me. No one cares about even half of those, and it wasn’t necessary to keep adding them as your level went up. At most, there should just be three or four. Preferably? Just one. “What’s the best weapon?” “Anything you can equip for your level.”

The thing is, it doesn’t solve it. It just prolongs the boredom of the progressives, who will just stop playing again once they run out of numbers to chase after.

They’re probably hoping ascended and legendary gear will hold people over until they release their expansion, which will likely raise the level cap and bring gear to match the level cap. That way they can say “see, we didn’t add anymore tiers (just added higher levels of the same tier making your existing stuff obsolete)”.

“Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games.”

The game actually has a lot of content. Each zone has it’s own story, secrets, puzzles and big bosses. The problem is that ArenaNet decided to make Orr the only place where you can get lvl 80 gear and mats and the most karma. So people naturally go there and pretty much ignore the rest of the game unless they are leveling alts.

Armor with higher stats is not more content. They could’ve achieved the same effect by adding more dungeon specific exotics.

I don’t think they are gona raise the level cap( not if they want more riot..)
, but it would be appreciated if Devs can really answer this question, and stop playing hide and seek.
If this is indeed the last time, I would just view Ascended gears as a fix.

Junk gear (white), dropped gear (blue), quest reward gear (green), top-end stuff to work a little for (orange), and extreme cases (purple).

Rares seem like a fairly pointless tier currently, only used to deliver special skins without handing out exotics in the process. I can see why they didn’t just bump rares up to exotic’s spot and make exotics harder to get, because that would mean all the extra work is only for people who start the climb afterwards.

If it absolutely, positively ends here and they do this right the first time, then it’s not going to be a huge issue once everyone cools down. The problem is that they’ve given no firm words on the matter, just lawyerspeech damage control.

There are people who finished ALL content in less then 3 months. So no, there isnt a lot of content. You wouldnt be able to finish Prophecies content in 3 months (I dont mean the missions, I mean mission + quests + exploration + etc.).

Game has a level based item system like WoW, Lotro, etc. So yes, you should expect them to raise level cap.

Can we plz focus on the topic, and it’s not about how much content this game has.
It’s about the key aspect of this game, ""no gear progression"", and I would really like to have an official response.

@rtommaso I think they state that they won’t increase the level cap.

Whether they have plans for that or not, it seems highly unlikely that they’d answer your request, op. Personally, I’d wager they’ll probably release all the ascended armor and weapons and then introduce more power creep with the first addon, but thats purely speculative for now.

Thats true, they dont seem to like answering questions, unless there are 2k people raging agaonst a stupid decision, then they come to say “oh, you shouldnt worry, we are doing exactly what you are saying you dont want and what we have said we wouldnt do, but we will say its not like this and you should think it is ok”.

BTW, I dont blame Anet for this, I believe this is due to NCsoft pressure. Since NCsoft bought Anet, things are getting worse everyday, specially costumer support, which went from “very good” to “completly disrespectuful”.

There are people who will finish any content faster than the majority of the player base. They are called “content locusts.” It’s impossible to create enough content for them. No matter what you do, they will consume it at an alarming rate.

These same people will probably be done with the new dungeon and the new gear by the time the weekend event is over.

The content locusts finished the content in less then 1 month. GW2 lacks content. It has less content than prophecies alone.

Adding more content can be done without adding things that alienate a sizable portion of your players. Those people cannot be appeased, they will have every new item before the next week ends and ask for another helping.

Sizeable according to who? You’ve managed to poll every single player in the game and ask them how they feel about these changes?

Forum posters probably account for less than 5% of the people playing the game. Even in the 3000 post thread, if every post was from a unique visitor that’s still only a fraction of the people playing the game.
