Q:
Is this normal? (Game Download question)
A:
I seem to be bouncing between 160kb/s and 180kb/s. The launcher now says: Downloading: 789MB and only 5% done.
@Flesh — I added -Streaming Client to the target line of the launcher shortcut, but don’t see a mark on my download line showing when the game is playable. Advice?
@Soul — I hope so, too! It looks fantastic!
@Vayne — You had me at “wardrobe feature” — Thanks for the welcome
Did you add, -Streaming Client or -StreamingClient (without the space). If you put in a space that’s probably why no mark has shown on the bar.
ANet may give it to you.
The cd you got was from the vanilla version of the game.
And even then it was basically only the launcher.
Since then there have been massive amounts of stuff added to the client.

Oy. Alright. While I’m disturbed that I can’t jump right in, I’m soothed by the fact that I now understand why. Thank you, Lord Krall.
Are you actually only downloading at 17KB/s? I hate to tell you this but at that speed it will take several days to fully download. At least the streaming client will let you get In before it finishes.
ANet may give it to you.
Expect the .dat file to reach 20+GB (mine is 20.4 GB).
Hope to see you in game soon.

Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is endless.
This is true for all MMOs. When you buy a driving game, you get the entire game, pretty much in the box. Very little is added. When you buy an MMO you’re buying the game and the history of the game.
MMOs change and evolve all the time, at least the good ones do. So you have a game that keeps on giving.
Since launch there have been 3 new zones, and some new story, and some new items you can get, and some new jumping puzzles and some new PvP maps, and a new map called Edge of the Mists, none of which could have been included in the disc, because they were added after the disc was pressed.
There’s a new wardrobe feature, an account wallet and a bunch of other stuff as well.
Welcome to the game.

A couple of things that might be helpful to know:
1) You can stop the download at any point and when you restart the launcher it will resume from where it left off.
2) The percentage is based on the number of files, not the number of kb left. So sometimes it will jump up and other times it will appear to have frozen even though the download rate is above 0 and the number of kb/mb downloaded is going up.
And also if you restart it the percentage will go back to 0, because it’s based on files remaining.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Thanks, Danikat! Your response made me think of another question — I have my computer set to never sleep (I sleep it manually when I’m done for the day/night):
Will the download slow/stop if I put it to sleep before I go to bed tonight?

I could kiss you! I did indeed have a space. Got rid of it and now have a playable mark! I should be able to get into character creation in the next couple of hours!
