Is this the design Vision?
So people playing together to take out champs like they are suppose to. How dare people play together as a group. It’s not like guild wars 2 is an MMO or anything…….. Wait………

That’s small? I’ve seen smaller take on the Shaman mere months before the Feature Pack. And succeed.
[EDIT] Actually, I’m not quite sure what the OP is criticising, here. Is the problem that there’s too many players, or that the zerg is not big enough?

My point? 3-4 people grouping on a champ is plenty, and not much of a challenge then.
Yeah, this is a small megamerger zerg. They only get bigger.
So I’m wondering, with megamerger, if the thundering, talentless, default skill using mob downing bosses with little thought, effort or even skill usage is what Anet means for the future.
It seems the only demographic that matters.

I’ve played MMOs for 12 years. This is the first game where “Zerging” is not considered an insult. Not only “not” an insult, but now enforced by megamerger.
Try harder. M in MMO as an excuse is pretty worn out.

With instanced content, you need to make maps, test it to avoid as much glitch as can, develop encounters maybe make new enemies, add in voice acting, cutscenes etc, its a huge work and i assume it costs a lot too.
Meanwhile zerg content is just a mob dropped down in the middle of nowhere. Add in an event or timer or whatever and 50+ can enjoy it, not just 5. Done. Repeat every 2 week.
Too many kitten people. Add to that the broken loot mechanics and they’ve now made GW2 a game that is “not fun.”
I wouldn’t recommend this game to my friends anymore.
I agree,
having more players in the world is generally a good thing.
But the game hasn’t improved by turning every megaevent and champion kill into a gigantic zergfest. Sometimes less is more.
Personally I’d like to see the number of participants in mega-events cut in half per instance.
These zergs were around before mega servers even came out. I don’t personally like the champ train but that is there style of playing. What do you expect anet to do? Get rid of champ bags? Make it so only a certain amount of people can do a event? Those sound fun. They made the game they wanted to, what people do with it is entirely different.
I think you guys have to look at this as the foundation. They will do things on top of it. They are in a no win situation though. People wanted harder content so they gave us Teq./Wurm/Marionette. People on smaller servers complained that they couldn’t do it. They introduce megaserver tech to combat it and now people want less people. They literally can not win. You as players can win though by doing group instanced content of which there is plenty.
Do I think we need new zones/dungeons/Fractals/and 8-12 man instanced content. I totally do.
If you want the stuff you are asking for you can head to like Brisban and do stuff there with your guildies. There are still events off the beaten path that will assuage those desires for less people.
You know…you guys can just avoid the champ train, go away from the commander tags, and explore off the beaten path.
Maybe the game as a whole needs to be tuned up a bit now that megaservers guarantee highly populated maps, but there’s certainly no problem with highly populated maps in general. It’s the content within the maps that weren’t originally designed for such activity, 24/7.
IMO, scaling on all events should be increased if Anet’s algorithm and servers can handle it.

^ gw2 inspires zergling , u dont need to know what to do besides press 1 and follow a blue tag.
LS2 will be even more mega blob dps reason why they need the megaserver before ls2.
They just need to tune those bosses spawn into a chain of events that might happen.

Because Modnir is not an auto attack fest, riiiiiiiiight. :/
Thats a normal size Frost Gorge champ zerg for blackgate.
(Although I understand your point, that screenshot is a pretty weak example)

These people don’t work together, they are just spamming 1 in the same general area
If you want difficulty, you could always hop over to Cursed Shore where zergs make things more challenging. (say hi to three champs that all have the ability to come very close to one shotting you) They also drop champ boxes.
honorable mention: A crap ton of people who don’t know how to do Grenth standing at the waypoint area all wailing on a shade and doing no dmg, while scaling the event up, and causing an ocean of shades to be present.
GW2 is dying, don’t worry. Leave the game and return when it is dead and you can enjoy the content solo…you can’t refuse this suggestions.

uhhhhh, as far as i know, the definition of “working together” hasn’t changed
whether they are pressing 1, or pressing 2345, these people are still “working together” to kill champs in a set order, to make $$$$

For reference I press 1 in all MMOs I play and unless they aren’t dead games where under-population is what makes the game challenging, I rarely need to use any other skill.

The problem with that analysis is that it’s ‘one size fits all.’ Sometimes I like big zergs. Sometimes I like trying to solo challenging content (rarely possible in open world anymore). Provide a variety of content and a variety of environments (eg. more vs less players) and then let people choose.
Businesses are about being cost-effective. Which would you think is a better use of resources?
- Featuring existing large-scale content using existing models and scenery that herds of players will utilize at once, by loading the game’s better rewards into that content to encourage doing it over and over again.
- Designing new content that will often be done only in small groups, and that requires new models and scenery. In order to infuse longevity into this type of content, you’ll also need to figure out and balance new reward schemes.
- Designing new areas with tons of things to do and see that people will explore a few times, then ignore.
- Designing harder content that will be done once or not at all by x% of players, and which will be repeated only by y%, where x > y by a significant factor.
It has been said on these forums many times that people will take the path of least resistance. Companies are kind of like people. They will take the path that leads to more profit with less expense. Consider that revenue in MMO’s (store or sub) are improved via larger numbers of players. The path of maximum profit is to keep those numbers up via the most cost-effective means.
As to mega-servers — those are about appearances. GW2 was always supposed to be about large groups of players doing content in the persistent world. Empty zones kill MMO’s.
