So… i just realized i salvaged dawn…. I thought I was salvaging khrysaor for the air sigil. No, it was dawn. Same skin I guess. I had no idea.

You guys HAVE to make precursors not salvageable. There are low level WHITES you can’t salvage for crying out loud. Or make it so you have to type the name in like some other items.

I’ve read a number of similar threads on this in the past. I never thought it could really happen, but it turns out it was surprisingly easy to do. I didnt even really realize it until this morning.

anyway, the pain is real. PLEASE make the change.

It is easy to do, but its an exotic so it would have popped up asking you are you sure you want to salvage it, support may not help you with this, they will probably tell you they cannot restore items.

Howww did you do this?!?!?! O.O

I’d be so paranoid I’d read the name of the weapon over and over and over and over. Pause. Read again. xD

I hope they can fix this for you. That’s a horrible mistake to have happen.

Oh man, that has gotta hurt. Kinda makes me feel better about never having had a precursor as I now know there’s something worse - having one and losing it.

Seriously though, I hope the devs can reverse this for you.

Seriously, write a support ticket. While it was your mistake I’ve seen support help people who made mistakes before. Be courteous, admit your own mistake, don’t try to blame it on them and ask for help. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Could be wrong… but it’s worth a shot.

Thanks for the supportive words guys. I will try the ticket option. The whole thing was just a perfect storm of chance. I had been trying to get rid of bl salvage kits becuase i have a bunch. THat khrysaor sword has been pretty profitable to salvage due to the air sigil. And they come in fairly frequently too, so I had been doing that for a day or two.
I put in a buy order on dawn a bit ago. I was uppercut by quite a bit, so I totally didnt expect it to fill. And I totally hadn’t noticed that the icon was the same, so I was just salaging all the swords together. One of them just happened to be dawn. Ugh. Oh well, there are worse things that could happen I suppose.

Personally, I wouldn’t salvage anything ever if I had dawn in my inventory. If I obtained a dawn, I would stop whatever I’m doing, move it straight into a nice special place in my bank and never remove it until I was ready to forge it into sunrise or sell it.

That doesn’t mean they salvaged a precursor. They could have (most likely) gotten one of the weapons with the same skin as the precursors or ( especially in the case of the rifle) gotten them from old pvp chests.

I won’t disagree with you since I don’t have access to his account but named weapons show up with the name. Dunno I’ll have him double check so I don’t have to listen to him cry about it anymore.

Public shoutout to GW2 support. I did submit a ticket and they did restore the dawn. So a thousand thanks to GW2 support. It was quick, and exceeded my hopes.

And its true, the problem was that I didnt expect dawn to be in teh mix. I discovered it this am when i went to take DOWN my buy order on dawn. It wasnt there, adn I looked in history and saw it was bought 16 hour prior. I put 2 and 2 together and realized my mistake.

LESSON LEARNED. But still, I stand by my orgional post…nobodyh in there right mind would EVER want to salvage a pre…so make them not salvagable.

The precursors’ skins have the name of their duplicate skin. For example: the skin for Dawn isn’t called Dawn; it’s called Khrysoar, the Golden Sword. And Dusk’s isn’t called Dusk; it’s called Naegling. The staff’s (The Legend) skin is called Imryldeen. It’s that way for every precursor, I believe, with the exception of the rifle; there is no pve skin for it other than The Hunter, but there was a pvp skin (called PvP Plated Sniper Rifle in the old pvp locker).

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Hunter_%28skin%29
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Naegling_%28skin%29
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Imryldyeen_%28skin%29

So yeah, it’s just far more likely that the friend had old pvp locker skins or salvaged/forged the duplicate skin weapons.

I was working on the multi blade backpacks we were getting during the scarlet events in lions arch.

I was one step away from the final product, and decided to buy the talking golem backpack. Applied its skin to the blade pack.

And realized I probably just prevented myself from finishing it the second I applied the skin.

Not as big as the precursor, but still, it was painful.

You’d be surprised. I burned a bunch of fractal relics on the wrong backpiece thanks to a brief ping spike. Put in a ticket and asked them to give me the right one. They gave me a different one, so I replied to the ticket pointing out the mistake. They finally sent me the correct one. I wound up just having the wrong backpiece sit in my mail and used the right one.

I’ll post a screenshot when I get home, but yeah, they have a lot of discretion to help you out.

anyway, the pain is real. PLEASE make the change.

It’s “easy” to do because you blithely ignored the “ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO SALVAGE <INSERTITEMNAMEHERE>?” prompt. Frankly that’s your own fault and Support is going to, justifiably, say the same thing and not help you.

They dont need to change anything either, as that prompt SHOULD be enough of a warning for people.

@ Basandra. This wasn’t an exception. Anyone that has experience with support or hangs out in the bug forum where most of this type of thing gets reported knows that anet will 90%+ of the time give back an item you delete or salvage on accident at least once. That’s just how the company runs which is awesome.

Although I usually caution people who plan to put in a request for something rather trivial like a ascended ring or something because usually it is only once that they do this for someone.

Anyway OP I’d mark this thread to be closed. And thanks anet for having awesome support. A lot of people appreciate it. I’ve never even used support but think highly of it with all the awesome things support does.
