Okay,

So I think i’m officially ‘tired’ of the pvE game structure now. I noticed it about 3 days ago when I logged in and just found myself running between towns feeling extremely bored with the constant missions and aimless mob attacks to get points.

I have a level 62 mesmer. I’m no longer interested in levelling her up. I also have three low-level characters, a human revenant a norn warrior and norn ranger, but I won’t even bother with those either… I was interested in exploring the different lores of the races. It seemed like fun at first. But it’s just the same endless crap. And after buying a whole set of new armour for my mesmer I realized I don’t have the interest or patience to spend that much time in the store doing it again.

Also, one thing that got to me: I wanted to test out the crafting element of the game, so I bought enough ingredients and made half a greatsword. then I returned with more ingredients to make the rest as I ran out – only to find out that the crafting station was closed because of some stupid ‘failed experiment’ which had green creatures running around. If that’s an excuse to add diversity to the game, then my face is blank. REALLY?? So I finished the sword the following day when the ridiculous mission was over and crafted my sword!

It just seems pointless. I remember feeling this way with gw1 – the only difference was that that didn’t happen until about a year later. And from that point forward I only logged in to have fun in Random Arenas.

I think the core of the pve is still the same as the original game and that’s probably why I’m completely bored of the game now, and have no feel to play it, which is a shame.

My verdict:

They need to make this game more interesting and take away the demoralising mission/mob grinding as a pve mainstay. They suck.

Just my opinion. It’s what killed the fun for me, after what is just a few weeks.

I might log in occasionally to run around in WvW.

Any thoughts?

Wait. Mob grinding? You are not telling me you are trying to level your character by endlessly killing mobs over and over and over again, i hope. Because that’s the worst way to get XP in this game.

Just go around exploring the maps and do dynamic events. You will be level 80 before you notice it.

Oh, and crafting stations in main cities are always available, btw.

you do know you can waypoint to places you have already been and there is more than just 1 crafting station, you gave up on crafting a weapon for a day because the crafting station near you happened to be unavailable? Do you even have a lvl 80? Your not supposed to just mindlessly grind mobs

It just sounds like you dont know what your doing and are just running in circles doing the same events

1. explore a map, do some hearts along the way
2. return to your main city (for your race) and do a map completion there
3. go through the portal in your main city to go to Lions Arch, do map completion there.
4. start crafting, the stations are always available AND you have ALL the portals available to go to the different main zones for each race.
5. play the main storyline, do fractals (at 80) and go WvW/PvP.

In no time you’ll be in the high levels, killing the different worldbosses (for rewards and mats) and doing different events. And yes, you have to kill mobs in those.

Hi there,

I think you didn’t understand my original post. I know how to level up. What I’m saying is I find it tedious now, and there’s no fun in it anymore. Even the option to kill monsters or whatever is just boring, there’s just no fun in Tyria. Why? BECAUSE I GET IT…once you GET the game, it’s no longer fun.

That was my point.

I think you should find another game. Every post you’ve made lately is about your problems with leveling and combat. The game isn’t going to change and unless you change you’re not going to have fun in this game, and I don’t think you’re going to change. So, save yourself aggravation and find a game in the style you do like.

a.) It takes about 48-72 hours of /played time to hit max level. That is without any bonus experience from crafting or other methods of advancing in pve levels. We are talking first character new to the game time required.

b.) There are crafting stations in every racial city. There are way points unlocked for every character in the starter Zone next to every racial city. Lions Arch has a Gate Way hub which interconnects every major city. Not having access to ac rafting station is not an issue.

c.) You get 10 levels per month for free just for loging in.

d.) Every 10 levels you get story missions worth about 2.5-3 levels worth of experience.

e.) Open the trading post -> select armor -> select chest -> configure options to show only blue/green/yellow items which are +/- 2 levels of you current level -> buy item -> select next armor slot -> buy item ->repeat process for every armor slot. Repeat process for weapons. Done. Takes no longer than maximum 1 minute.

Maybe, just maybe you are not that big of an expert at this game as you think you are.

The other poster wondering if you have been grinding enemys for experience was valid. You complain over so basic and simple processes which are streamlined and simple in GW2 that your complaint comes more off as you not actually knowing how to proceed.

Now you not enjoying the story or other aspects of the game is a possibility. Nothing of what you actually mentioned is the problem. If the game is not your deal, fine.

They need to make this game more interesting and take away the demoralising mission/mob grinding as a pve mainstay. They suck.

Just my opinion. It’s what killed the fun for me, after what is just a few weeks.

See above. My thought is, you have not even grasped the beginning of what GW2 is and have given up. Which is fine.

But your assessment and verdict are off by miles.

I DO like Guild Wars, but it’s boring. I like being my character and exploring the world and learning new stuff.

But the issue is this:

There’s only so much human beings can do with computer code to make a game interesting before it becomes see-through.

The only things I enjoy are the collaberative aspects – and those are very few and far between.

Seems to me that mmorpgs are not your kind of game, not saying you can’t enjoy them in general, just think (as an opinion) that you are not immersed in the adventure that was designed for you.

(start of skippable personal experience)(holds value for customer retention personal at most)
To be honest the lack of an in game guide tool kept me away from the game for more than a year. Most of the time was wandering around random areas doing heart missions and just admiring the landscape and exploring the different combinations as I was unlocking skills… kinda fooling around with the combat system… it is great but the lack of clear goals that are enjoyable made me less interested into coming back. It was until the release of the living season 2 (saw it on facebook) that I had a reason to come back… I played the missions as I was familiar with the layout and found myself dying a lot, then finally hit a wall in a part I had to solo 2 elite assassins as an ele. Tried several times until I gave up and realized that the content was end game for those who already reached a peak and wanted more… so my rare gear wouldn’t cut it…. I got motivated again for the game, I had to get exotics! only place I knew for this (again lack of information in game) was fighting the avatars of the old human Gods (Balthazar, Melandru, etc…) but I had karma for a piece or two, yet I got them ! (to this point and after 3 years of game-play I could build a small fortune of 7 gold!! yes 6 whole coins of gold) that got me the remaining armor pieces and a scepter in the trading post had barely used tp in all that time either (was only about 150 tailor, cause getting clothes for them was complicated specially as I leveled out of the range where dropped ones where useful for me, and wouldn’t go back to grind them if I can be progressing in my adventure instead). …. so with the new armor I came back to try again and still wasn’t enough, …the experience was a whole lot better tho… Frustrated I took another break from the game.
(To this point I was rank 4 PvP, rank 4 WvW, one main account lvl 80 fully in exotics and 39% world completion) a baby, with 3 years of gameplay and only 300 hours under my belt … I guess that is what casual looks like.
Suddenly the news of a far ahead possible expansion reached me somehow and acted like invigorating booms on this now divorced kitten !
(End of customer retention relevant part)
With extra time on my hands, I decided to swallow my gamer pride (long forgotten art nowadays) and checked for the first time in my life a game forum, got tips on how to be that part of the story and moved on… long story short (this made me realize I will write a blog instead, need a gw2 timesink while at “work” and forums are no longer fun as everyday the same comments resurface, complains here and there, hardly someone ever asks for real help or comes up with a fun thread that is not asking for stuff. —end of rant)..
(end of skippable part)
long story short liked the meta events, gave me a goal to look for, joined a guild, tried dungeons, fractals, did more WvW and recently started to pvp. Good part is that I recovered all my gold in the dry top… a shiny 10g stash … lol was not much but it was fun to earn them without becoming a flesh&bones bot … later on came Halloween event that got me 100 gold while I leveled my first alt (ranger) …fell dirty for that … to that point didn’t have the expansion, got it later on and now I have so many objectives in the game now that is overwhelming starting by world completion (a guildie gave me the gift of might and magic ) … reached lvl 500 tailor lastnight, and 316 artificer (had lots of mats since barely sell anything), now need to craft ascended… Today I have ascended trinkets as most have, 280 gold, 750K karma, lvl 14 in WvW (got gift of battle) and lvl 14 PvP and world completion 50% with 400 hours of gameplay …still a baby -_- but so motivated to play the game!!

So I think i’m officially ‘tired’ of the pvE game structure now. I noticed it about 3 days ago when I logged in and just found myself running between towns feeling extremely bored with the constant missions and aimless mob attacks to get points.

They need to make this game more interesting and take away the demoralizing mission/mob grinding as a pve mainstay. They suck.

Any thoughts?

This is the nature of PvE in every MMO I’ve ever seen. There are enemies doing stuff (stuff often includes just standing somewhere or lurking in a “dungeon”). They have to be dealt with because they threaten someone. Deal with them. Take their stuff. Maybe get rewarded by the threatenees. Sometimes, this dynamic can be more elaborate, sometimes not. At least in GW2 (sometimes) the mobs are actually attacking something.

Is this great gameplay? I guess it depends on your ability to immerse yourself in the lore, the world and whether dealing with virtual threats to a virtual community means anything to that immersion. Sounds to me like immersion in GW2 is just not there for you.

Have you played other MMO’s? If so, did you feel differently about the PvE there? If so, what was different and why did it work for you?

You know what the problem is?

it’s not the environment or the content, it’s the expectation the developers have placed on us by using that ridiculous “do this and you get this much reward” code…

AND to add insult to injury, to make it a bit diverse they put scenarios in the above code like events which cause time-delays or block your progress and stuff like that, so that the reward or opportunity you are seeking is interrupted…lol…

It’s just very bland… GW is great but they need to change this feature.

it’s written all over the game.

It makes it boring. It’s just too repetitive.

Any thoughts?

Where to begin, haha.

1) The crafting station you went to is one of the, if not the only, crafting station that has an event blocking it. You could literally have gone to any major city and crafted without issue at your leisure.

2) 3mos and bored with GW2, after 1yr you were bored with GW1. Have you ever played an MMO for extended periods of time? Because quite honestly it sounds like single player games are more your style. I mean, killing things to level up, that’s how MMOs work. But unlike other MMOs, GW2 offers a multitude of ways to level up. You can PvP, WvW, explore, do fractals, craft, pretty much you name it and you can level up doing it. I think someone is working on leveling up to 80 strictly mining gathering nodes. If you have a problem with repetitive content, then steer clear of the MMO genre. There’s no way to make a game where you can play 4000+hrs without having content repeated. It’s impossible.

3) You believe GW2 core game is the same as GW1 core game. Huh? I’m gonna let GW1 players respond to that one lol, because the consensus is that they are so completely different that GW2 shouldn’t even be considered a sequel. Not sure how you picked up on the complete opposite of what every veteran GW1 player feels. I can only assume because you barely played either quite honestly.

4) I recommend Fallout4 or Witcher3 for your role-playing needs.

I think you should find another game. Every post you’ve made lately is about your problems with leveling and combat. The game isn’t going to change and unless you change you’re not going to have fun in this game, and I don’t think you’re going to change. So, save yourself aggravation and find a game in the style you do like.

Hi,

I appreciate your point, but you’re wrong.

Just because I have a BIG MOUTH and I am opinionated doesn’t mean I am being negative or grumpy. I just like to talk about things with whom I consider to be fellow friends of gw.

Am I allowed to do that?

These are my opinions. They’re not the law.

Lol.

Not being negative?

It’s boring.

I’m kind of bored with that too

There’s only so much human beings can do with computer code to make a game interesting before it becomes see-through.

How am I supposed to grasp it when it’s so boring to play

There’s nothing to gain anymore

It’s just no fun anymore.
The game is basic.

It’s what killed the fun for me, after what is just a few weeks.

You’ll be better off finding another game rather than playing one you find boring, basic and non fun. That’s just common sense.

A few days ago I downloaded and installed Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn.

Haven’t started it yet.

Any thoughts?

Not every game is for everyone. I downloaded an MMO and where everyone else was having fun, I was bored, bored, bored by it. After I fell asleep (literally) while playing, I logged out then uninstalled.

I think you should give that game a good try. And if you have problems there and go to the forums for advice, I hope you’ll be more willing to listen to what the other posts recomend than what you’ve shown on this thread and your other threads.

Erm, what have I done to show that I’m not willing to listen here and in other threads?

Why do people constantly find ways to throw insults at me when I’m just expressing my point.

If you’re looking for a different experience each time, you’re likely going to need to buy single player games, or perhaps focus solely on PvP — though even that gets repetitive. I doubt you’ll find FF14 to be any different once the initial “differentness” provided by new skills and a new UI offer. Humans often crave new experiences, and MMO’s by their nature are driven by repetition using certain formulae that work. You’ve run up against GW2’s and you don’t like it. You may like another MMO’s or you may not.

It’s how you are expressing yourself. You’re being negative and you dismiss other people solutions without really disscussing them, in your other thread and this one.

There’s a story I read once that went,

Once there was a wise man whom everyone asked for advice. A stranger came to him said he was moving to the next town and wanted to know what the people were like there. The wise man asked, “what are the people like in this town?” The stranger said, “they are awful here. Always rude and critical and I don’t have a single friend.” The wise man said, “you’ll find the other people in the next town just the same.” A second stranger later came to the wise man and and asked him, “what the people are like in the next town?” The wise man asked, “what are the people like in this town?” The stranger said, " they are wonderful here. I have lots of friends and everyone is so kind." The wise man said, "you’ll find the other people in the next town just the same."

In other words, if wherever you go people treat you just the same, maybe it’s you.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

It’s perfectly okay to fall out of love with a game once you ‘get it’, there are many others for you to ‘get’.

This, absolutely.

Also, just because the game isn’t interesting to you, it doesn’t make it intrinsicly a bad game.

There was a similar thread a while back. The OP made similar points in that he was bored of the game, but also made similar mistakes when it came to base-knowledge of the game. This game requires a bit of learning. If something is frustrating you, it’s probably because there’s another (better) way of doing it. MMO’s almost always require a bit of research for the most efficient gameplay, but it’s ok to not like having to tab out to learn about the game.

The other thing is yes, in my opinion you do come off as sounding negative (and there are plenty of fairly objective examples to summarise this notion, as previously quoted by Fleshy, I think). Maybe you don’t sound negative to you, and I understand that (It can be difficult to read tone on the internet).

It’s always worth considering that people on this thread have spent their own time trying to help you, and if they’re met with a sense of apathy or ungratefulness they’re going to be a bit annoyed. Most people here relish the community support and at least come off as thankful just for a direct response, even if they don’t necessarily agree.

After reading some of this I thought I might bring up a question that has not been asked. What would you like to see in the game that would not make it so boring?

I do understand where you are coming from. I’ve taken breaks from games, including this one, before. I do have to say, compared to the majority of MMOs I’ve played, this game has a very active and diverse community. Other games I’ve played only have one way to level and one way to build certain characters. They have little to no events, and can be considered a cash cow.

No game is perfect, and this one does have it’s fair share of needed improvements in certain areas. So that brings back the question, “What would you like to see in the game that would not make it so boring?”

That is a poor excuse.

We are human beings, not robots.

We need diversity.

Ya, but you are only level 62. You only view a portion of the game. The diversity is there you just didn’t reach any of it yet. Which is kind of weird because 3 months and your highest char is level 62? Try at least all the dungeons paths once, complete the meta events, world bosses, do some EOTM, WvW, PvP, gear up at least one level 80, do some silverwaste and Dry Top. I mean, ok you don’t like repeating the same content, still there is hours of content you didn’t even tried.

On a more general view of MMO. Yes you are right we are not robots and yes we love diversity. MMO have about the same if not less content than some of the best single player RPG on the market, but you can’t have everything.

MMO are there to play with friends, progress over years on your account and give you a comfortable place. That’s the need they fill. And yes in a perfect world they would give us 5k hours of different content, but that’s just not possible. So they provide us with repeatable content that will us to stay engage into the world as we get our fun out of achivements, social interaction, pvp, competitiveness, etc.

OP you said it yourself, you are bored of the game for the moment, thats ok you know, take a break and wait until it freshens up or not for you personally. Its a subjective opinon, many love the game and it is thick with quality content. Put it another way, the game is 3 years old, and you are now bored of it, thats a good run, and you wont be punished by a power curve if you take a break.

Prior to mmo forums people didnt have the need to declare they are bored of a game and started blaming x and y, they just stopped playing.

I DO like Guild Wars, but it’s boring.

I don’t understand that comment: if it’s boring, what is it you do like about it?

All gamers reach a point in which their favorite game loses its luster and it’s time to take a break. Why is that so horrible for you to consider for yourself?

Sometimes folks return from a break, liking it even better the second time around; sometimes they don’t return; and sometimes they come back wondering what the attraction was in the first place. You won’t really know which group you’re in until you take the break.

GW1 was my favorite game by far when I discovered it and on the verge of a couple of big titles, I realized I was “working” on them, instead of having fun. I took a long break from the game & came back and was glad that I did. I had a lot of fun playing other games during the interim and upon return, I had a lot of fun with GW1 again.

tl;dr take a break.

It really, really wasn’t. The vast majority of content is done in instances which even a casual player could complete with mercs/heroes filling the other slots. You can get through most open-world PvE content in GW2 without ever formally grouping up but most of the events are tricky to do entirely on your own. The new maps in particular have begun to require larger and larger groups of players working together, and then of course you have dungeons, Fractals, Raids, and WvW.

The switch from instances to huge, shared maps makes a big difference in what the game can do. It isn’t at all a stretch to say that GW1 wasn’t actually an MMO, particularly since the ANet devs at the time also didn’t consider it an MMO.

Which isn’t to say that one or the other was a superior game overall or that GW1 didn’t have opportunities to group up, but they were very different games.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

Lol doesnt even have a lvl 80 and thinks he has the game figured out, and claims gw1 was more co-op and group based, lol. you arnt even a high enough level to do most of the group based stuff or even experience the endgame zones, yet you apparently “GET IT” without even seeing a majority of the game yet

Seems legit
