Why can’t we explore places like crystal desert? In GW1 we had a lot more of the map but in GW2 we don’t. I would like a response from someone who KNOWS.

It’s been eight years and I’ve yet to enjoy the Crystal Desert in Guild Wars 1. lol

I joke! I joke!

On a completely serious note, there were, all up, 300 quests in Prophecies…alogether. There are 300 hearts and 1500 dynamic events in Guild Wars 2. I don’t see how you you think that the Crystal Desert with it’s tiny number of quests could take the same time to create now, with the change of format.

As far as lore goes, I could guess that a lot of places we traveled to in GW1 have become inhospitable in GW2, seeing as how many years have passed. I could only guess that a dragon completely rearranged the geography in certain places to make them dangerous. Of course lots of that stuff could be the answer. New, demon creatures could have come up from the depths and are living in those areas. A necromancer hellbent on hiding his treasure spread throughout Tyria erased those places from every map in the world using ancient magic known only to an ancient race that died out 300 years ago.

If you’re not talking about lore, I guess you’re talking about the physical reason Anet did not implement those places. I can only guess at that reason too. Laziness, server engine incapabilities, or they plan to release those places through the Living World. The latter is my best guess, and is probably the only logical reason for Anet to withhold using those places in the beginning of the game.

I hated Crystal Desert, I’m glad Kralkablabla took it over and corrupted it. TO HELL WITH THAT PLACE!

Ok, but getting back to the topic. With “living story” approach I don’t think we’ll see any major releases in maybe 2 more years. Crystal Desert is where Kralkatorrik is placed and we shouldn’t be able to get to him through living story. The idea that major part of story would be put into something that lasts only 2 weeks and disappears after isn’t fun at all.

I’m hoping the LS evolves into an extension of the original gameplay rather than a temporary sidequest. Which means that eventually they can open up the Crystal Desert via a series of 2 week events that lead to a brand new group of permanent desert zones in an attempt to begin an offensive against Kraky. Much like Orr, they’d be level 80 zones.

They can do this with the northern Shivers too, against Jormag.

I don’t think they excluded these areas due to laziness. I think they were trying to be far-sighted and plan for the future. If you unlock the whole world at once, it gets stale at once. If you start with a large chunk, and then as we defeat a dragon, continue to unlock more areas, we get new permanent content every x months/years. That’s how I’d do it anyway.

The living story is a fixed structure! Its not just a buzz-word invented by Arenanet to advertise constant content updates! They can’t change the format! They can’t decide to release larger, permanent content (that they have said they have teams working on) and call it a living story update! We’re doomed!

Living world is a lie to push gem store buyers (which is fine since it’s their business after all) but as a sequel, they should focus more on continuing the main story every now and then instead of more birthday parties that little people care about.

How many party crashers are going to put the world at stake???? it is kind of silly…
