I did not pay for Tp wars 2.

I will head back to another game for the moment and hope that Gw2 will improve by the time I come back to it.

I went trough Fractals, LS, dungeons, WvW even pvp and I always end up playing tp wars. Because in the end, that is the only viable way to make money (farm) in that game.

Seriously, if it was possible to make money by playing the game instead of playing the tp it would be awesome.

But I guess, no more rant, ill go and enjoy something else for the time being.

Have fun everyone!!! And be sure to see me around on the forum

I don’t know why you want vast sums of in game currency. Scarce vanity items or as a free source of gems for the gem shop?

But I know this was just a venting rant but I’m curious since IMO there are very few items that I think are worth saving up a lot of gold for.

It’s not about having a vast sum of currency. It’s about being able to buy the different skin (armor and weapon) and to gear up my character with money that I made playing the game instead of money that I made being on the TP.

Gearing up your character ends up being expensive. And right now I have to make a choice between playing the game and making little amount of money to gear up, or play the tp, and make huge amount to gear up.

Edit: And it would also be about being to gear up by looting what you need!

It doesn’t matter what MMO you go to. The place where people trade with each other will always be the place to make the most money.

Not the fastest, not the safest, but the biggest amount.

I am not going to another mmo, im going back to borderlands 2 (loot fiesta :P )

But ill admit that the place to go to make the most money is always toward trading with people, but back in Gw1, I could play the game and actually make a decent amount of money to get the skins I wanted.

I personnaly feel that it is ridiculous that the only ’’viable’’ place to make a decent amount of money is in tp. I mean, you don’t even need to play, all you have to do is buy something and sell it and keep going for profit.

Last week I decided to invest 450 gold into greatsword to gamble it at the forge and I got a precursor, but seriously why is it that I have to do that to actually drop something of value? :P

The topic of abysmal reward has been going on a lot lately, and I guess that a lot of players are tired of playing tpwars2 instead of Gw2

Have you seen the Dolyak graveyard, Arwen? Did you listen to the lovely music in Plains of Ashford? Did you get a sense of pride when you completed that ‘impossible’ jumping puzzle? How about those three different breeds of moas that hang out together in Metrica. Have you taken the time to read some of the plaques and memorials hidden in quiet little corners and felt saddened by the story they told. Have you stopped at some breathtaking vista and imagined the scent of the forest far below drifting up to you. There is so much more to this game than earning money.

I spent almost 3 hours trying to jump my way through one of the jp in plain of ashford.

I had a lot of fun getting 100% map completion on my main (the bad part of that was win WvW lol)

I replayed atleast 10 times almost all vista in caledon forest when I started playing the game.

I enjoyed having fun with some group of player trying to derail train in Queensdale.

But this eventually get boring. I think that not a lot of people would be crying about money if they had to something to do that make them shut up about that. Don’t you think?

And this is because Gw2 was made more loot oriented than what It was in Gw1.

In Gw1, I was playing the game, getting the skins I wanted by ’’playing’’ the game, and I had goals and objective that I was completing with my guild and friend.

The game shifted toward loot and reward a while ago, and right now I don’t believe that this way of thinking could shift. Not until they add more content to the game so that people have something new to explore, and that they make you work and play the game to obtain skins and weapon.

Sadly, I have to farm to get gold, to trade it to gems, to buy keys, to unlock chest, to have a chance to have 1 scrap to turn it to a ticket to get a skin.

The game is freaking horizontal progression. If you want something cosmetic, you have two choices. Pay real cash, or grind your brains out for.. you guessed it, loot to sell or somehow process into gold.

Gold is the end game in Guild Wars 2. The rest of the content you burn through so fast that it gets old extremely quick.

I bet a lot of people would disagree with this. The end game for me in any game is to have fun. That specifically means NOT farming. I’ll get what I get when I get it. I don’t have to have everything and I certainly don’t have to have everything now.

I’m quite content to have fun with the guild, do what I’m doing, and eventually have enough gold for something I need.

It’s a mentality that makes gold the end game of this game, for certain types of players. Not everyone feels this way.

Mostly because people really did complain about how there was no real reward for stuff. So it got added in steadily to get people those rewards. But what people should have said is “I want my precursors!” because they never stopped saying the rewards weren’t worth it enough.

Blame the posters and players who drove the loot into the spotlight. It wasn’t about loot until the population in general decided to make it about that. Well, that and how awesome quaggans are.

The emphasis on loot came with ascended which I still view as the worst thing to have happened to this game. Sure, there were always proponents of that kind of progression but they were by no means in the majority.

But yeah, given how expensive and time consuming it is to fully deck out a character today the gold obsession is albeit unfortunate completely understandable. They bred this mentality.

Aside from :
-a legendary
-Immobulus
-Infinite Light
-Mjolnir

What exactly are you grinding your brains out for ?
Ascended ? You don’t need to buy anything on the TP. Not even cloth because if you play this game, you have quite enough laying around. I only play on week-ends, I get more than 50g + materials. It might not be a lot, but I don’t need any because my characters are outfitted how I’d like (well more or less because I only like a few weapon/armor skins which don’t necessarily fit together so I end up getting whatever and hoping Anet finally releases something I’d love).

And before someone says “duh legendary !” you’d be surprised at the number of players absolutely not interested in getting a legendary. Which leaves weapons requiring something that cannot really be farmed (silver doubloon/giant eyes), but that’s a completely different topic.

What else did you expect? You’re approach a game by a rule set that it doesn’t and will never follow.

No wonder you’re disappointed.

I don’t understand what you just said :S

Your assumption that top end gear and skins drop from critters. That never was the case. While leveling up you do occasionally get a drop you can use but BIS? What did you think, this was WoW? This is anti-WoW.

The closest thing you get is an extremely rare chance for a precursor, you can buy exotic temple armor for Karma and some Ascended trinkets from Fractals. They intentionally made Ascended armor and weapons a grind fest, their interpretation of running the same raid over and over and over and over again for a chance of getting a BIS item in WoW. Isn’t that what the vertical progression people wanted, the boring grind to slowly assemble your BIS items?

If you are annoyed that it costs to much to buy skins with in game gold, is that surprising? The Gem Shop is primarily a cash shop, as in real money. If you want skins fork over $25 for 2000 gems every couple of months if you don’t have the time to grind bosses, dungeon paths and fractals for gold.

I’ve been playing for about 15 months. I have roughly 250 gold. I spend 60-80g a month on gems and stay at 250 gold. I’m not going to buy a legendary weapon, ever. I would rather craft it and I knew it would take me years to do so.

But go ahead, blame TP flippers for taking everyone’s hard earn gold. Please tell me how you didn’t contribute to their earnings by selling everything to highest bid and buying from lowest sell price on the TP.

I personally blame the speed runners of CoF1 in the first six months, or the ones that thought up champ trains last summer, both cases that had so much new gold entering the system that their rewards were nerfed.

As long as you aren’t OCD for BIS, you can enjoy the game. But if you feel compelled to get BIS, you will simply descend into the grinder and learn to hate it.

“Doctor! Doctor! It hurts when I do this.”

not much reason to play the Trading Post to get gold if you are just aiming for gear. Just salvage everything that doesn’t go well on the TP which is pretty much anything below yellow quality and eventually sell the 250 stack; I don’t craft so why keep them. In doing so I’ve made enough gold to just buy exotic gear from the TP with that stats I want and then transmute the looks I want from <level 10 items. Dungeon armor skins are a different story though… have to ‘grind’ those still.

There are hot spots for mats in a number of places that are easy enough to just port to (Ex: queensdale has 2 places with a lot of copper). Also PvE dailies force PvE combat which almost certainly entails trash loot to just salvage and sell the mats on top of any gathering done while doing dailies.

meh, not the most profitable, but full exotic gear really only costs ~20 gold per character unless you are getting Culture armor, but that isn’t a problem while selling mats either from my experience.

P.S. Karma for gear is dirt cheap too since you can get it from stocking daily+monthly (x karma boost).

A R W E N sadly I will be the only person in this thread to back you up. You have named it quit good: TP Wars 2, and it is.

You can run around picking ore through maps, or flip inscriptions with 2 clicks and buy a stack of that ore. Yes, the end game requires gold. Be it for gems to customize your character’s armor that goes nicely with Kasmere’s staff, or having a Dreamthistle Sword on your Sylvari to complete your style. This is TP Wars 2.

All the hypocrites before me tried to put you down with “why do you need gold at all?” instead of saying the truth: Almost anything you want to get is gold.

Take it from an Eternity holder. And no, I don’t need to apologize to anyone for wanting and holding that sword.

I also dislike the fact that an immersive fantasy MMO is degraded to TP, but this is the design and it will not change in GW2. In that respect, if you leave to give it time and return to check in the farther future – then leave and don’t return sadly.

Such hogwash.

OP simply doesn’t know how to play the game to make money (non-TP) and instead wants to cop out and blame TP players. I think it’s fairly easy to blame others than yourself…

Can you make the most gold per hour playing the TP?
Yes.

But if everyone did it, the profit would be gone.

Now, you know how much gold I make in a week just playing the game?

At the minimum, I make 400 gold a week. 40G per weekday and 100G per weekend, or approximately across 40-50 hours a week. or 8-10g /hour

That is the most gold ANYONE will be able to get playing the game without the TP (although I hear karka farming is just as rewarding, but 5x as much boring)

Once I earn all my gold in farming, I invest and speculate in the TP. Right now I have 1000 gold worth invested in one commodity. That commodity I expect to go up at least 225% so that through the TP, I can make well over 1000g in profit.

But where did I get all that capital from? From TP playing? No! All 1000g from that (OK maybe 95% since it’s hard to keep track of where gold comes from) came from playing the game.

If you do not want to
-take the time to analyze the game world and find out the best methods of making gold
-take the time to learn your class
-take the time to play smart and prioritize

then you are not going to make more gold than the TP.

Complaining about the TP and buffing ‘playing the game’ rewards will not get you anywhere. It’s called inflation, I suggest you wiki that.

And vol let me tell you something. In the 600 hours I spent playing gw2, I spent probably 2/3 of that time in the tp because I found out that that instead of playing 8h a day running champ train, I could spend 30min a day playing the tp and making the cash. And that is sad. I played over 3000hours in gw1 because I was enjoying its content and it was also rewarding the effort I made. But this game does not reward you for your effort. And in the end of you want nice skins for weapon and armor you have to farm gold. I have a life out of gaming so I can’t spend 10hours a day farming champ train. But in gw1 I could do 2 doa with my guild and be fully rewarded and then I could go do something else (homeworks and stuff).

Games nowadays try to get away from trading posts and action houses, as they make people stop playing the game and start playing a market simulation.

Blizzard learnt it the hard way with their auction house in D3, it will close down this month.
ESO won’t have auction houses, there will be small guild stores but that’s it.

I for one welcome this change, it will reward the players that play the game, instead of the people who manipulate the economy. We have enough of this in RL…

Unfortunately, there is no hope that the TP would ever close down in GW2.

The game is way too grindy in matters of the amount of items you need. Some are sort of impossible to farm on yourself. Resources are the grindiest thing ever here.
So the TP is going to stay, otherwise noone will be able to finish a legendary ever. And if you want some of the nicer stuff in GW2, playing the game will be the wrong approach in the future like it is now.

To be honest, there is very little content for people who have been around since the start anyway.

Too little permanent content was added, and the LS is just a buggy zerg fest, which can harldy entertain anyone with some sort of expectation and who got used to standard updates in other MMOs.

Ah well, a fair share of people I know have left GW2 for those reasons, and more will. There are just way more entertaining ways to spend your time online than this.

Wait, so you have all the money you want, you could get anything you want . . . and you’re complaining about work which has to be done . . .

I don’t know what to say anymore. I’ve never been really short on money enough to consider myself “broke” and I don’t play eight hours a day. I don’t even play four hours a day. I play maybe twice a week normally, four hours and then out. I make enough money to handle most repairs, most waypoint travel, and if I can’t afford it I don’t need it. This means I don’t need those precursors for 600-800 gold each, or hundreds of Lodestones . . .

All I need is to go get materials I want and slowly build myself closer towards Ascended. And that’s if I care to – I really only do it because I have very little left to do other than the WvW achievements. (I’m not doing those.)

By the way? Flipping commodities/stocks is how people in RL made/make money too. It’s just much riskier, even though the concept is sound enough so long as people want to trade things of value – find a seller and buy, then find a buyer and sell for more. Not that hard.

It’s so easy there’s some guys making bank off it

I agree with OP. Not that Im against tp or people making money, its the huge gap in speed/effiency between tp and any other way to make money. And Im not that interested in money either, but you need money to buy stuff.
I like to explore and gather in the beautiful world we have, and then use my gathered mats to craft my armor, weapons, food and so on. But the amounts of mats I need is mindblowing. Just to get crafting maxed is a pain, unless of course, bying stuff with gold. It is a warning sign that no-one tells you where to farm and how to do it, just how much it costs.
My goal was equipping all my alts with selfmade stuff, thats a big part of what I do in games like this. That one I have scaled down.
A legendary was a goal, until I discovered the droprate in this game. that, and that Anet suddenly changed the requirement to get it blew it away for me.
I am enjoying the game, I think its a wonderful place to be and I really like much of the music, the sights and all those little stories I find around the world. But without long term goals I lost a bit of the purpose to log in.
But who knows, things might change.

Anyway a lack of gold never really bothers me, if I need to buy something I run a few dungeons. Although since I actually buy gems every now and then when the mood hits me I guess I don’t get caught in the ‘grind→ gold → gem’ situation.

So after reading this post I came across people responding in the matter that disturbed me a little bit.
You cannot say “you play for skins” “you play for this”
If this person’s goal is to farm allot of gold the game should be offering him a variable gaming experience.
A good game in my eyes is a game that attract many different kind of people and furfill all their needs, the explorers, the pvpers, the pvers, the gold farmers, the rp’s and so fourth

By percentage, far fewer play the auction house well than farm. If you make it so farming can make you big money, and the auction house can make you big money, you increase inflation and the price of everything goes up.

This ends up forcing people who want to neither farm nor to play the auction house to walk around as perpetual paupers. Guys like me would leave the game, because we’d not be able to afford anything.

Making it so everyone can have money makes money have less value.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

The best games tend to be the ones with a very clear focus for that reason alone.

Out of curiosity after you’ve hit 80, run all dungeons, done all the quests, played a decent amount of wvw, have 5 sets of exotics what’s left other than maxing out appearance/gear. Yeah I know ascended isn’t needed to play the game. I played the whole game with out them now it is all that is left. So i want to “complete” the character. Its just turning out to slow to keep interesting while farming for it.

The prob with gw2 is that if you want something and that you can’t spend 8hours per day playing, you have to either buy gems or tp flip. Because the rest is not effective

Then that’s the problem with YOU, not the game.

It’s clear your objective is to make the most gold you can, to the point that you end up doing something you hate.

Let us discuss 2 different players.

  1. is a casual player who enjoys the lay of the digital landscape and the thrill of every encounter, playing a multitude of classes with many weapon sets to flesh out the many playstyles and tactics available by skill and weapon combinations. He is a consummate player that gets excited when an exotic weapon drops.
  2. is a hard core gamer and has to have the best item skins and stats immediately. He labors repeating the same content over and over to get a digital item with no value, other than to his vanity.

Anet has decided to cater to both parties, but the hard core get the shaft, the casual gamer is in heaven. I love it that they complain instead of being able to look at it from player #1’s point of view. I think that is borne from how young gamers never immersed themselves in games as I did when I started pencil and paper gaming in the 70’s.

I don’t know. My wife is a casual player, I am sort of a dedicated player if I like what I see.

My wife stopped playing some monthes ago, a bit above level 50 (her second try to get into the game). She lost interest because the leveling was boring as there was no story involved, just random quests here and there (hearts and DE), the story instances were to far apart from each other to entertain.

I showed her the labyrinth and she told me, she would rather cut her eyes out before she would run in circles mindlessly zerging down stuff.

I played through most of the stuff, and didn’t even like it too much. Mind you, I stopped investing any money in this game long before, as this seemed to be an appropriate gesture to show my displeasment.

Still I was here for the whole mess of the LS.

Casuals stop playing and never look back. Dedicated players invest time and are way more bound to what they have created.

I fear with all the releases this year, the casuals will flock to the new attractions, and the dedicated players will do so too. Sounds like a bright future.

I’d like a title of MMORPG game where you don’t have money issues, you don’t have to grind in-game currency. You simply get some fancy items 3 times a day.

hm?

Did I ever tell you, the definition, of Insanity?

Gold is meaningless in this game. All my level 80s are decked out in exotics and my 2 mains are partially decked out in ascended as well. All this from running 1 or 2 dungeons maybe once a week and usually just playing WvW. There are tons of other currencies available to get what you need/want. Hell, my guardian was completely decked out in exotic armors and runes from the TP for less than 5 gold.

What would you need gold for anyway? The good looking skins are all grind fests if you want to get them rather than simply purchasing with gold (dungeon armors, crafted legendaries). What else is there left to get?
