It's not grinding because...
TBH nothing in this game has felt “grindy” to me. I used to play a game that once you hit level 30, offered extremely little in the way of quests. The only way to get to the next level, once the half a dozen quests for that level were done, was to find an unoccupied area and run around killing all the mobs over and over again. 30-31 might take a couple hours. 50-51 a few days. 70-71 a couple weeks. Brutal.
I do, however, do the world boss train when I’m bored. Waypoint here, kill this boss, waypoint there, kill that boss, etc etc. Repetetive and mindless; could be considered grindy, I suppose.
My tolerance for farming is about 30 minutes, so I’ve never really done that sort of grind. The only exception is drytop. I was happy to do a cycle of events in an area that most people didn’t in order to help push up the Zephyrite favour and then run the Sandstorm events. I happily did that in one hour blocks until I had my ambrite weapon collection, although I had to supplement this with the Drytop PvP course in order to get enough fossils.
At one stage I decided that I would do 2 hours of dungeons runs every night. I liked watching my gold add up, but it felt like grind within a week, so I stopped.
I do map completes for fun and levelling. Just about all of my characters have been levelled mostly through the open world.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
I often enjoy and get satisfaction from smooth Dungeon runs while others consider Dungeons purely grind content with no fun attached.
All the talk of grinding made me wonder something. What do you do regularly with your game time that some might think is grindy but you don’t?
Not so much anymore . . . but . . .
World Boss Grand Tour. Search out Cypress/Ancient trees or Orichalcum. Mess around in Silverwastes. Craft bits and pieces of components into various things. Chase down particular Wardrobe entries.
Only things left for me to do is get a teq horde for a GS for my necro and get the last piece of wurm slayer armor. I do both event everyday, and it is a grind. And you might ask how can it be a grind if you only do it once a day, but it is because the event have not gotten any harder or have changed at all. They are boring, but the Loot is locked behind an RNG wall, that after every kill I end up being at the same spot I was at before the kill (don’t fall into the gamblers fallacy). So for the past 100+ teq kills (I keep the spoons to keep track on the number of kills between hordes) I ended up with same reward as if I never did the event at all, no teq horde. Doing an event successfully 100x for no prize is a grind.
And before you talk about the 2g +3rares+karma+trash, there are much better way to get all of these instead wasting time at this event and they don’t help you get the horde/pile.
I do key runs sometimes. Or farm for mats I need. Both of those can be considered boring or grindy by others but I find them calming to do mindless activity.
ANet may give it to you.
I continue to do key runs. I find it quite enjoyable. I do, however, choose different races and professions, sometimes. Sometimes. Or, more often than not, Ranger or Necromancer.
I always enjoyed the parts in LS1 when we could go out a kill a certain kind of mob, for a particular loot drop range.
I’m sure others consider those, and other things I enjoy, grindy. I don’t. =)
Hmm…. well, I spent 6 hours in SW today, just running around do events and gathering chests. Some people would consider “farming” the epitome of grind just due to it’s repetition. However, since I was neither bored, nor felt “forced” in a any way, it didn’t rank on my grind-o-meter personally. When I decided I was done, I stopped, and went about other things. At no point did I feel like I needed to absolutely be there for x, y, or z reason (which plays a big part in my feeling like something is ‘grindy’).

Been there. Especially some nights on WvW when it’s been fairly energetic, going “holy crap I need to be to work in 5 hours . . . um, gotta run!”.
