I agree, jumping puzzles as a norn are more challenging. I have read that you can use transformation potions (the wintersday griffin, for example) that have the ability to jump to make these a bit easier. It’s a workaround, not a fix.

Just completed it after 24 deaths. I like the game but the person who changed the camera immediately before release should be ashamed of himself.

If I hit that kind of thing again I’ll use the potion trick – thanks!

I have found there are precious few third-person view games where I really like the camera. It becomes a case of “which one do I think sucks the least”. I have found that the camera in Guild Wars 2 is about on par with the one for Monster Hunter . . .

. . . useful and completely serviceable for most things but there’s those times . . . you really go “oh come on now”.

I have done every JP in-game as max size Charr, which has feet that don’t even rest on most JP platforms due to their standing stance. Seriously, quit complaining and either get better, or don’t do them. The alternative is to get a friend who has a Mesmer and is a better JP runner than you to portal you to the chest.

Also, try investing in the 50% fall damage reduction trait. You won’t die if you fall, saving a lot of silver on WP travel.

I’m running a “short” norn and have camera problems often with JP. It’s quite annoying.

I really wish I’d started a Mesmer instead of an Elementalist JUST for that for guildmates.

I read a post a while back about how they had to change the camera at the last minute to fix some issues (camera through wall or something?), resulting in the issues we have now.

I read a post a while back about how they had to change the camera at the last minute to fix some issues (camera through wall or something?), resulting in the issues we have now.

Clipping issues I can understand and needless to say, it’s probably a major job for them to fix something like this, because you’d have to go through all the art assets and adjust the collision accordingly.

You see, most 3rd person games will allow the camera (not the character) to pass though certain things like high-beams, roof supports, rocks, overhangs and other freestanding 3D objects, by means of a gentle transition – the object actually “fades out” as the camera passes through and fades back in.

One would assume that objects that form for e.g., the border of a map or the border of something the devs don’t want you too observe in any way, be 100% non-passable for both the character and the camera, while other objects have the type of synergy with the camera as explained above.

However, in GW2 that is not the case. In fact, even invisible objects that were visible before (e.g. chopped trees) or the empty space above short objects such as pillars, still hard-collides with the camera in the most horrible, ungraceful way.

One can only hope that these things will someday … someday be fixed, but judging by the rate ArenaNet tries to bring out new content and by what seems to be neglect in terms of certain fundamental functionality (such as the camera), I’m not holding my breath – not unless they’re willing to be more open about these issues. How else would we know?

Yes, that’s the one. The problem comes up when the character is in tight spaces, eg Troll’s End JP. Open world is less of an issue although the camera jumps in and out if you’re moving close to something immediately overhead.

I don’t mind it for the JPs since I can just choose to avoid doing the cramped indoor ones on a Norn. But for some vistas to have problems as well could get in the way of World Completion which is required for Legendary weapons.

Still, I only have around 10 vistas left to do – just Malchor’s Leap and a couple of the WvWvW maps and I’m done. Fingers crossed there won’t be any additional issues.

Yeah, we’ve been talking about this since launch. FOV and camera snapping/collision. It’s too bad really, such a beautiful environment that has been compromised by the camera.

apparent there was first-person perspective in GW1? a button that toggled between that and 3rd person would solve everything

I’m currenty at 90% world completion on my max size Norn and am doing Straits of Devastation. The Lightfoot Passage vista is almost impossible. I am good at JP in general but have died at least 15 times on this one even after looking it up on YouTube.

I know this has been discussed before and the developers have even apologized for it. I don’t care. It is extremely annoying. FIX IT. Thank you.

I’m sorry, but if you can’t complete a vista (which technically is not a JP), then you are not good at JP’s in general. Up your skill casual!

This particular vista comes after the jumping puzzle (you get credit for the JP, yet have to climb much further), so it’s a lot harder than your average vista.

It’s probably one of the hardest vistas in the game.

I have 100% map completion and I can’t remember a difficult vista =/, although I do recall the straits JP. Most JP’s (the difficult ones) take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to complete and involve multiple stages. This is one of the easier JP’s, and sure, maybe one of the harder Vista’s, but as noted "I am good at JP in general" was more what I was commenting on and simply giving him a friendly hard time.

I would feel bad for you but my main is a full size charr so i really dont, Norns have it easy compared to full size charr’s.

They do seriously need to fix the camera angle though it is completly broken for some of the JP’s/Vista’s.

They should either fix it or just automatically give the broken vistas’s to Charr/Norn players when they create their character untill a fix is released for the camera.

If you think jumping puzzles as a norn as bad… imagine doing group jumping puzzle (lost shore, winterday’s, ect) when directly behind a maxed sized male norn. I play human and can’t even see my own character to make the jumps, and I’m usually great at jumping puzzles.

Then there are those same guys who grief the puzzles by afking at key spots so you can’t jump without a 80% failure rate! Grrrr!

I completed the Halloween jumping puzzle as an Asura with lots of Norn and Charr blocking my way. At some point you just get a feel for the jumping and can do it without seeing your character. Granted, it took a while, but it was very satisfying when I finished it!
