January Update Speculation
- Retuning of the dynamic event system as outlined in one of their blogposts.
- They mentioned that jan and feb would have an expansion’s worth of content, I’m going to speculate that they add more utility skills or weapon skills.
- Reveal of Jormag, story mentions that he would be the next target.
- A few new full zones, Far Shiverpeaks, expansion of Southsun Cove.
- New mini dungeons.
- New playable race: ^^ Kodan, this is a bit of a stretch.
- New fractals.
I’d love new zones, yes yes yes.
Also: New fractals, wooohooo. Fractals are basically the only things that keep me playing at this point.
Items that will cost 250 ectos or more gem store items, whatever they can come up to monetize.
More utility n weapon skills please! Especially the latter please!
Retweaking the end of story to somehow cut the Trahearne parts.
Some new areas.
Bug fixes n balance.
Perhaps a new map or two for fellow sPvP-ers(not that I care bout that mode, but still everyone should get something).
? for WvW.
I am sure that I am currently very modest
Maybe another zone with no content that is the end result of three days of unforgivable amounts of server lag and unfixable bugs for a “one time event.” I mean why not, Lost Shores was such a smashing success.
I don’t remember if it’s during January or February but I would love to see the nice WvW improvements they have talked about.
I would love a more “sandbox” approach (we have to build our forts/towers ourselves, we have to cut the big trees to gather ressources/we can build our houses and build walls all around them, creating villages), well something a little more “ArcheAge”, but with GW2’s theme, graphics, and unique ideas.
Of course, I don’t think that they are going to do this kind of things at all, but we can always dream…
I’m not going too expect anything otherwise I might get dissapointed. Im just going too be happy with anything we’re getting.
They will add Claws to Thief.
Increased rare drops to make us happy (accompanied by a stealth ecto salvage nerf so we’re actually worse off).
Reduced stealth cooldowns because that makes sense.
No change to poor performance.
New activities and items, but with details missing that we discover after attempting and losing money on them.
Class balances.
Class unbalances.
More ascended items (amulet, acc).
A new map that has more than one enemy type so people might actually use it for their daily.
New crafting recipes using up surplus materials (hopefully) that aren’t useless.
Fix to our fractals woes… that comes with a flaw that is exploited or causes an uproar on the forums.
I want
-New Fractals
-More Ascended gear.
-Class changes
-New zones
-New dungeons
-New dungeon armor (other than Ascended gear)
-MORE/BETTER GEM STORE ITEMS!
Add that one thing that seems to be missing in PvE. I feel there is one.
If they do the following: PvE=Dungeons, it only means ANet we GW1 vets know and love is gone.
So no further dungeons!!! Leave that to other games(remember the time when there were none in GW1? It was so awesome). If you just look at Warriors n Guardians rock! PvE movement it is only caused by simple existence of dungeons…

Man o man I am with you. Dungeon this game up and GW1 is the superior game. GW1 is all instanced already, better instances imo and much neater skill system. I can’t get over how they laso’d a lot of the community into a dungeon series after creating the world they did. There has to be a reason they have for doing this… it really escapes me though.
As for the topic, I always go in with this. Expecting much of nothing, that way it gives me the best chance of being impressed. If you don’t do that, you should try, it works A LOT better.

this makes no sense to me at all, GW1 was basically dungeons. a dungeon being an instanced area for a small group with various bosses and enemies in it. Or do you just dislike gw2 dungeons specifically.
There is a new class being unveiled , thats confirmed on gwguru
Prove or i consider fake

That was a troll post linking to an ANET post from 2010.
So yeah.
It’s interesting to speculate.
I’d like to see:
- More availability for Ascended items. I don’t expect all stat combinations to be available for crafting, Karma, or WvW; but at least some of the high-end items available can be available elsewhere so that the higher level GW2 community is a little bit more spread out instead of confined within Fractals. As far as Agony Resistance goes, since that is a dungeon-exclusive stat, Ascended gear obtained outside of dungeon content wouldn’t have Agony Resistance built in, but would still have the slot available for it. Likewise, an infused version of that item could be made using materials found only in dungeons. That way, there’s still some minute form of “gear progression” for those who are into that stuff.
- New Zones. Especially level 80-only zones. This would also spread out the higher-level community a little bit and give them something to do. I’d imagine the Northern Shiverpeaks would be a great place to look since Jormag looks like the next Elder Dragon to take on. Though, the Crystal Desert might be interesting to look at. Or even the Isle of Janthir with the White Mantle and the Mursaat.
- New Jumping Puzzles. I found it quite surprising that the Monthly achievement includes jumping puzzles, so I would at least expect some of these in the next update.
- Changes to Dungeons. Encounters being re-tuned and re-balanced so that it’s a bit more enjoyable. As such, exploits would be fixed. And maybe the trash could be worth killing instead of skipping. While we’re at it, maybe Magic Find could be modified to be more party-friendly when it comes to instanced content that requires small groups of people.
- Improved LFG Tools. GW2LFG.com is nice, but there needs to be an in-game option for those that want it. Though I have yet to see my account become compromised due to posting my character information on GW2LFG.com, it would probably give a better peace-of-mind if these options were available in-game. Whether that would end up being a Dungeon Finder common in more modern MMOs, or the Party Finder from Guild Wars 1, it obviously has to be better than what we have.
- New Fractals. Despite some of the glitches and bugs in some Fractals, I still find it to be moderately enjoyable. Seeing that Fractals could represent anything and everything about Tyria in any given time period, I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of favorite GW1 missions were remade into Fractals. Heck! I’d probably kill for a different end-boss after each even-numbered Fractal. I kept wondering to myself: “What if Kanaxai was there instead of the Jade Maw?”
- New Armor skins. And I hope it’s something that not a freakin’ trenchcoat for medium armor wearers.
- New Legendaries. Some of us aren’t into rainbows and ponies. It would be nice to have a pistol that looks more B-A!
- Order Missions. To give some kind of significance to the Order we have chosen in our Personal Story, it would be nice to have a daily errand we could do for our Order each day.
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .
as there is a bar brawl achievement and some new NPCs touting games in Divinity’s Reach, I expect to see some new mini-games
but…time will tell
I would like to see some new DEs, as were discussed before release
a new area would be nice, as well
I’m hoping the changes to the existing dungeons are the first thing updated in January. Right now they’re the biggest problem area.
Second, I’d like Legendary updates to make precursors more plausible to obtain, and some way to reduce the grind. I’d honestly like Legendaries to be obtained through actual in-game skill.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
I would really try not to get your hopes up. “Basically an expansion worth of content for free” was a statement made in regards to January and February updates combined. I would expect a lot of features that should have been in at launch, but nothing too big. This statement was pure marketing to cover the wound that is GW2, which is bleeding players thanks to poor game design, on a daily basis.
Things you’d be crazy to expect:
-New Races
-New Classes
-New Skills
-New Weapons
-New Elites
-New Traits
-Worthwhile class balances
-Any real fundamental fixes
Things that are more likely:
-LFG tool (stretching it)
-Guild Halls (stretching it big time)
-PvP mode or two
-Some stupid mini-games and reward structures that no one really gives a kitten about
-Some WvW fixes that don’t actually take player interaction into account (Breakout Events) and ultimately fail to do anything except bloat the code.
-Trading Post Preview ( a man can dream)
-New events in the same boring format
-Maybe more fractals, because that was a top quality idea in the first place (sarcasm)
-More single-player console style content (Jump Puzzles)
-Nerfs to already UP classes.
-More reasons to marginalize group integrity and team synergy in the combat system!

Yes, because if I don’t want it, NO ONE CAN HAVE IT
No. Just because you personally don’t want more dungeons doesn’t mean they shouldn’t add more.
Personally I hope to see:
- New fractals
- Next wave of ascended gear
- More structured pvp options
- More changes to WvW to make it more competitive and less “who has more numbers and who can put up better coverage”
- More non-Orr level 80 open world areas
I faithfully wish for next update :
- Next ascended gear wave (amulet & ear rings ?)
- New Fractals
- New map high level / 80 / different than orr
- Make karka’s map more interesting
- New Skins for legendaries (especially Bifrost, everyone is not on flashy pink rainbow… A fire staff like incinerator dagger would be cool)
- Why not some new utilitary or elite skill ? (elementalist elite are just a shame…)
-Balance class / nerf thief DPS / up necro & ingiener
- Find something against lag, especially in WvW, just unplayable sometimes
See?
All you ask for is inconsenquential. So you are giving ANet an excuse to push out poor content update. Flashy skins/recycled dungeons/TP gimmicks-who cares about that? Think BIG! They have such an enormous financial backing and YOU are giving them a reason and an excuse to just sit and twid their thumbs. Even a new class-wtf not? With their budget you can do 2 smaller MMOs alone.
Then when I say that the greatest Enemy of humans are humans, people look at me strangely.
That’s why strong fisted regimes should prosper. I have no use of million people who all clamour for different things. I have an use for few creative people tho. In other words, I don’t care for masses…
I know many people have said it, but it’s true:
- More Fractals!
- An update to all dungeons, as stated in the beyond Lost Shores blog.
- More open world revitalization. DEs have grown a bit stagnant, and doesn’t really prompt a person to return to old zones that much.
- Fix Southsun. Right now this place is terribly boring. There’s no incentive to kill the enemies, there are only a handful of events, and it doesn’t feel like you have reason to go there and stay.
- Additions to skills. More utilities would be nice, but it would also be great if you were able to do a bit more with your weapon skills as well.
- Just more additions to make the open world exciting, and better rewards and incentives to participate in a zone.
Player housing and Guild towns! Lots of new items to play/hunt for! Guild town achievements which earn rare prizes/trophy’s to show off! Consensual guild town wars!
Lots of new armour and armour skins! Many more level 80 new types of gatherable nodes. A beautiful soloable level 80 zone. A new level 80-90 zone And a user friendly, easy dungeon for pugs! (because not everyone thinks extra challenging is fun)

Don’t the first two sort of go against #3?

Here’s my list:
-Fixes to parts of the guild system/UI: I made a longer post here (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Issues-with-the-guild-system ) basically laying out some of the issues I had with the current guild system. So I’m hoping we at least start to see some of the minor improvements made to guilds.
-Heavy story driven content: Hoping to see some content that pushes the main storyline of GW2 along. Possibly the rise of another major threat or something of that nature.
-Guild Halls: Highly customizable guild halls that allow you to work towards and unlock upgrades for them would be awesome.Arena net pretty much confirmed that Guild halls would make it into GW2 at some point during one of their earlier interviews or blog posts before the games launch I believe. The Guild Halls in GW1 were awesome, so I can only imagine what they would be like in GW2.
-10-man dungeons: Something that guilds can do and progress towards. Yes, it’s basically raiding, but I think many players would agree with me when I say I don’t want that gear treadmill raiding you see in other games. I want the GW2 take on it, with fun bosses that your guild can take on and maybe cool looking cosmetic rewards or rare items.
-New story mode/explorable dungeon: A new dungeon with a story mode/explorable mode would be nice. Again, to help move the main GW2 story further.
-Spectator mode: I feel like this might come later, but I can always hope we’ll get it with one of these two updates. A spectator mode that allowed you to view PvE content would be awesome as well as PVP
-More gem store items: Currently the only issue I have with the Gem store is that there aren’t a ton of selections in the way of cosmetic items. So it would be nice to get some more options, especially in the way of town clothes.

- fix bugs with engi
– bigger parties in WvW, maybe party of 20 guild mates?
- Retuning of the dynamic event system as outlined in one of their blogposts.
- They mentioned that jan and feb would have an expansion’s worth of content, I’m going to speculate that they add more utility skills or weapon skills.

While it would be nice, new races, if they are ever added will without a doubt be paid expansion material.
- fix Pure of Voice trait.
- fix Culling (i can still hope for it…).
- fix WvW glitches/hacks/exploits.
- remove breakout events.
- other ways to get Ascended gear (i hate fractals).
- more options to spend my Badges of Honor (see above).
- new weapon and armor skins.
- recipes that don’t require 250 ectos and loads of (charged) lodestones.
- no max level increase.
- no mounts.
oh, and TP preview mode…

My Big 4 for any update in the near future:
1. Karma rewards are rebalanced across the game
Why? So that farming of Cursed Shores stops and players can appreciate the other zones without feeling like they’re not playing optimally.
1b. Diminishing returns would be implemented to dynamic events once Karma rewards are balanced between zones
Why? So that players don’t farm other maps besides Cursed Shores because “it’s easier and just as good”
How? The DR will be harsher depending on level-zone difference. So, high level players are encouraged to return to low level areas, but not stay there for all eternity.
2. New sources of Ascended Gear
Sources like mini-dungeon chests, the standard dungeons, etc..
Why? So player traffic in LA will deflate back into other parts of the map. Ideally, I’d like the entrance in LA to be removed and have multiple entrances pop up around Sea of Sorrows.
3. Spectator Mode for sPvP
Cause I was actually looking forward to the whole eSport thing for GW2.
4. Preview mode for Trading Post
And to have previewing for non-prof gear to be returned.

Nice, that pretty much sums up what I was thinking as well. New races and classes are so not going to happen, looking at how much work the voiceover and animation work would be. If it were true, you’d bet that the marketing department would blow that sky-high.
“An expansion worth of content” is quite clearly a marketing ploy as well, I’d expect they release a zone the size of cursed shore that will be a ghost town afterwards for each update and some minor wvw “adjustments” and call it a day most likely.
This is a big idea but…
I would LOVE to see Orr redesigned, the land is now healed, the water from the source of Orr has spread, Zhaitan is defeated.
Currently no one go’s to Orr any more, there is no reason to go there even if there was so many people hate the place now. So give the place a makeover, add in hearts and change the dungeon and personal story.
One of this games big selling points was watching the world change around you, well we have defeated Zhaitan and cleansed Orr so when are we going to see it take effect?
NEW zones new new new zones!!!!!
Fix culling and I would be a very happy camper. But I doubt it’ll happen.
Realistically… more of the same. Probably new jumping puzzles due to the monthly.
Expansion of where you can obtain Ascended items would be really nice, but that’ll probably happen in feb with the PvP updates. That PvP patch will be very make or break for this game for me and many others.
Salvage 4 Profit + MF Guide – http://tinyurl.com/l8ff6pa
I’d be happy just with the long awaited BLTP armor/weapon preview option, gw2spidy.com works, but it ain’t fun.
Having said that, I wouldn’t mind another playable race (Kodan !) and more DE’s with more scope and better loots. Opening up more zones would be great, but I’m in no hurry, since I’m far from a 100% completion guy, so 400+ hours in there’s still areas I haven’t been to (with two 80’s and a third on the way).

The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Less of anything to do with fractals and dungeons. Anet stop throwing your population into dungeon instances and push them back into the open world by having events that reward people the way fractals and dungeons do.
People will funnel to the fastest way to do anything to grow whatever number the biggest it can be at the fastest rate. Make this so in the open world.
Leverage on great DE’s like Balthazar and Lyssa and use those formats to push us into the open world where you spent probably 90% of development time on.
