Q:
Will there ever be a japanese audio voice pack or translation for Guild Wars 2?
I was wondering because it would been really awesome if it was implanted to the game.
There was also an unofficial kitten fandub trailer of gw2 which I found on youtube some weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HJnLPrBMQg

No.
They don’t even have Japanese characters in chat. And Chinese characters are only half functioning.
i’m not talking about the characters. To have japanese or chinese characters is not what this point is about and it’s not needed to have in order to have audio/text translations.
i’m just curious if they will ever add more languages like japanese translation to GW2 in the future.

Afya’s point is important.
If they were to have a Japanese translation of the game, then it would be to support the Japanese speaking community and try to get a foothold in the Japanese market.
So, there would be little point in having text/audio translations if people were unable to speak (type) Japanese to each other.
Translating a game is a huge undertaking and is very costly. It would also require a support-team that could handle Japanese support tickets along with a Japanese moderation team and forum.
A-net, or rather, NCsoft, would only bother doing all of this if they thought it was profitable. The fact that a translation isn’t just a one-time job is a critical problem in this request. It means that this would be a feature that would require money to maintain it (with future updates, the moderation/CS/forum team etc).

I see, makes sense.
But it would be amazing if it really was added in the future tho
Here’s a thread you can check out: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/add-more-languages-with-new-expansion-thx/first#post5252663
I don’t mean to be critical here, but unless you speak Japanese, how does adding a voice pack in the game benefit?

Because some people actually want to have japanese voice pack due to several & diffrent reasons. It would benefit everyone who would like to have it aswell benefit people from japan for example, since there are actually japanese ppl that play gw2 you know….
If A-net decided to have a Japanese translation, they’d probably have Japan on their own separate servers or hand the game to a Japanese publisher.
Japanese interests are quite different to european/american interests. For instance, look at the differences between the Chinese client and the European client. They have a VIP system, where you pay a subscription and get exclusive features and, after several months of subscribing, you receive a legendary.

I didn’t even knew there was a chinese client….
This is a cart/horse issue. They first have to decide to release the game into other Asian markets. There isn’t a Korean language pack either. So until NCSOFT thinks it’s worth releasing the game into those markets, don’t expect them to work on a language pack. And if that comes to pass the likelihood of it being included for NA/EU is unlikely. Those game servers will likely be localized as well or maybe handled the same way as the EU region is with language specific servers since they have to be setup in groups of 3 for WvW. But Japan just got B&S so I wouldn’t think they would want multiple MMOs released near each other.

GW2 is quite different from traditional Japanese MMO, i m not just talking about RPG, but also other PVP/WvW type MMO
i highly doubt how success it would be in such a small market
we have more success with Korean type MMO localize in JP, than “western” type MMO,
and right, translating into other language is very costly, and voice acting is even more expensive
i really doubt it would ever release to Asian market, expect the China one
I bet the best would happen would be English base SEA server
