Jormag champ farming
Problem is .. there is not really so much to do there .. you can go blast some of
the ice crystals to protect the golems now and then .. and then back to the champs.
The problem is really that most of the event is so kitten ed boring that trying to get
some champ bags is the only thing you can do .. or leave the event for a while
to kill some arctodus .. lol
Oh and phase 1 .. if something should be changed then that one to just one wall
because autoattacking the wall with that kitten ed slow charzookas is really the
most boring thing ever.

Sounds to me like the scaling is the real problem here.

The champs used to go after the golems so if that’s still the case then the farmers are actually participating. There are so many people at a Claw event that is doesn’t really matter what they do.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
The fight is boring and tedious. I don’t even go anymore. It’s simply not fun. Both phases you spend more time sitting and waiting than fighting anything. The whole fight needs to be scrapped and made over from scratch.
Egoraptor covered this horrible concept of “waiting =/= difficult” in his Zelda Sequelitis.
I have to agree with Beldin here. The actual boss fight takes long and is so boring. Once he’s tagged players have better incentives to focus on the champs
It’s painfully obvious when you fight the Claw of Jormag, that he’s not even aware of the players. He’s just a static object that goes through a rotation of attacks that is very repetitive, while trash mobs spawn. And that kind of takes away the feeling that you are fighting with a dragon.
You are not so much fighting with a dragon (because that implies the dragon is also fighting with you), as taking pod shots at a dragon-shaped object that is rooted in place. All of the players could be standing off to the right, and at no point does the dragon even look to his side. He keeps looking forward, and doing his attacks. He is kind of like a blind turret in the shape of a dragon, that can only face forwards.

My question is why are you trying to do Claw of Jormag when the loot from the champ farm is better than what you get from the big chest and bonus chest for completing the event?
There are a couple events in the game where you get more loot from delaying the event’s completion or outright failing the event. Claw of Jormag is one of them. The longer phase 2 takes the more champ loot boxes drop. I average around 10 from the event; even more if the fight takes longer than expected.
My advice is join the champ train honestly. Pick up a flamethrower, set skill 1 to auto, and light up everything that moves.
Honestly, one could argue that the champ farmers kind of ARE helping the event because it keeps the champs and other mobs from killing the golems. But yeah, there just isn’t much to do during that phase. Most people I see farming the champs grab a flame thrower, knock out a couple of the ice spikes, kill champs, kill some more ice spikes, kill more champs, etc.
I hope that one day this fight gets reworked.

I’ve been on a few maps where there were only a couple champ farming. The champs are drawn to where the zerg and golems are and do attack that area. So yeah it does help to have people distracting them and keeping them on the ledges.
Some of the champs have such high health that they stay around doing damage for a long time. They are nearly impossible to kill unless you have tons attacking (they normally insta-die once Claw becomes vulnerable). They wreak havoc if they get to the zerg.

Very true. Just wish the devs would watch this vid, and apply it to Jormag—-and Ascended crafting, ( I want to play, not hang around waiting for time gating, thanks! grinds teeth in frustration).
Jormag takes so long because people are focusing on the champs rather than the wall/pillars. The entire Jormag fight, both phases, can be done in about 6 or so minutes. It’s kind of ironic that people farm the champs because the fight is unrewarding and long when it’s that very action that makes it so.
This was pre-update but once the crit spots are fixed, we’ll see how long it will take when players actively participate in progression of the event.

That’s not true. The champions that drop the loot melt in seconds and they hardly affect the fight in terms of time. The champions that takes ages to kill do NOT drop loot, so if you want to blame something for making the fight longer, blame those champions that have the same health as Jormag. And besides those champions are regularly being ignored by the farmers and they go after the golems, they hardly contribute in making the fight take longer.
When it’s not worth to kill them because it takes as much time as killing Jormag (and drop no loot), then there is something horribly wrong here.
The logical outcome if ANet addresses the OP’s complaint? Do nothing to address the boring nature of the Jormag fight; remove drops from all champions that spawn during the event.

Of course that wouldn’t surprise me at all
That’s how it was for a time there. At one point, no champs during p2 would drop loot. The mobs wouldn’t scale up, so there wouldn’t be any additional champs (the ones other than the goliath and wolf that spawn every so often) spawning, which meant there was no loot to get. I don’t remember when the scaling changed, but once it did, those champs started spawning, and people started farming.
My question is why are you trying to do Claw of Jormag when the loot from the champ farm is better than what you get from the big chest and bonus chest for completing the event?
Because it is part of my daily completion ?
Only reason i do him now, since i no longer need to do him to get dragonite ore.

What else are you supposed to do during phase 2 besides protect the golems then shoot jorlag? The champs despawn when you can run up to Jormag, so where’s the problem?

It doesn’t matter if the champs melt or not. You can blame scaling on the champs all that you want but killing them contributes hardly anything.
People going after the champs is only half the issue. The other half that I did not mention are those that stack at the certain spots and just auto attack.
Ok so this wont go down well with the champ farmers, but its about time someone said something. The amount of champ farmers on the second phase of Jormag is, well, a lot.
This morning at Jormag, there must have been 3/4 of the entire server just farming champ bags and doing little else.
Nothing against the farmers, but when it impacts the other players trying to do Jormag, by scaling it through the roof and not contributing to the event, except to get the kill at the end, it bites kind of hard.(tin foil hat on and waits in dugout trench for flack)
Consider:
During this event(in Phase 2), if everyone only:
- Farmed the Champs (Keeping Champ Mob away from the Golems)
OR - Destroyed the Ice Pillars (Allowing for all Golems to reach Claw)
And then - Swarmed him during the stun phase
The Defeat the Claw of Jormag event would get completed much faster.
Reasoning:
Attacking Claw outside his ‘Stunned’ phase is mostly worthless. His vulnerability and subsequent massive hit point reduction happens during his stunned phase, so it pays to have the stun phase (generated by the Golems) as quick and often as possible.
Conclusion:
Therefore, if all the Bazooka users would grab a Flamethrower and clear the area of Ice Pillars instead of plinking Claw with a pea shooter, the event would be done in no time.
Now a completely different group of players looks to be scaling up the event.

Wait, champs drop bags again? I was away for a while but last I heard they’d removed drops from event spawned champs pretty much entirely (not for champs where the champ is the event, just champ adds at stuff like Jormag) to prevent farming.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

Is this not a form of griefing? Players are purposely extending a world boss, taking up my time and anyone who is trying to finish the event. I recall a similar situation which resulted in an end to the Orr event fails. Why go to an event for champ bags “where you get more loot from delaying the event’s completion or outright failing the event,” when you can get better results/time from Silverwastes chest farm with like minded people?
I actually came to the forum to create a topic like this. Today I watched more than half of the players at Jormag stand back in the champ area during all burn phases. Don’t try to sugar coat what is going on here by saying champs despawn at burn time; the players still aren’t helping during burn phases. Anet reduced champ loot a while back, but it wasn’t enough. Just get rid of the champs and make more enemies or elites spawn instead.
Anet pls

I’m not sure why anyone is staying back during burn phases because the champs during phase 1 don’t drop loot, and the loot champs during phase 2 will be dead when claw goes into a burn phase (either because it was already killed or because it despawned as claw went into burn). If a champ is still up during a burn phase, it’s going to be one that doesn’t even drop loot. Regardless of that, I always see far more people doing the event (attacking claw at the proper time) than I do hanging back during burn phases.
