is there a buff, a food maybe, that helps with jumping ? My Norn Warrior M (massive) is no good at it.

My Asuran jumps so easily. It feels like he has the same F (force) as my Norn Warrior but only a fraction of the M (mass) to give a greater A (acceleration). I have no idea if the gaming code uses the classic F = M*A physical force but it just feels like it.

Any tips would be most welcome !

There isn’t, but it’s not a terrible idea.

Jumping and swimming buffs.

I have noticed that characters with larger models have a harder time doing jumping puzzles.

1st person camera would fix a lot of this, but jump buffs would also help.

ipan, thank you.

This is one reason I am so poor at dungeons with jumping puzzles. I avoid them at all costs. When I did the Fractals of the Mists yesterday, it started off with an easy jumping puzzle and I was at the last jump and I lost it. There is such a confidence component to jumping that if you are no good at it , you can freeze and miss the easiest of jumps. I also notice some fairly substantial AI in that, when I have failed miserably at a particular jumping puzzle after some point, the game recognizes my ineptitude, and makes the jumps easier by each attempt. My booty also suffers when I have failed (usually more than twice) at any given jumping puzzle.

One of my problems is with the ‘recovery on landing’ aspect that is actually more of a hindrance the larger the character.

I’m sure you’ve noticed, that when you strafe left or right, and then let go of the button, your character does a little ‘sway’ to show weight being shifted from one direction to another.

This makes taking really small steps (something that is important in a lot of jumping puzzles) really hard. It makes precision jumping harder.

Those little animations that make character movement look realistic (the footwork) actually make jumping puzzles harder.

That alone wouldn’t be so bad, because once you understand it, you can work around it – but combine that with the camera issues that often get in the way of objects, and it can make some puzzles really frustrating.

All of these problems are heightened by the larger models, like Norn and Charr.

Every race has the same hit box. The problem with larger races is that their model sticks outside of that box, so when it looks like you’re on the edge, you still actually have a foot left to go. Instead of relying on visuals, picture your character as a 3d rectangle about the size of an average human, because nothing else matters.

You can use tonics to change your character’s model to that of something smaller if you can’t get a feel for the bigger characters.

The reality is that all characters run at the same speed and jump the same height and distance, no matter what race they are.

The problem is that this is unrealistic and so non-intuitive. Because a norn is so much bigger than an asura they look like they should be able to run faster and jump higher. Charr even more so because they’re also built like cats who are excellent (relative to humans) at running and jumping.

But with practice you can get used to it. I play all 5 races, switching between them regularly, and I can do jumping puzzles on any of them. The important thing is to remember that the height/distance you can jump is always the same, look at where you’re going and judge from that, not what you imagine the character should be able to do.

With charr it’s also helpful to remember that their hitbox always stays vertical and above their back feet. Even if most of their body is off a platform if their back feet are on it they won’t fall, but equally if only their front feet reach the one you jumped to they’ll miss.

Also don’t try to do a jumping puzzle just after a long session of Assassins Creed. It’s incredibly frustrating to jump for a ledge or vertical wall expecting to be able to grab it with your hands only to fall to your death because your feet didn’t land on a solid surface. :P

A couple problems with jumping buffs. 1. It lets people get to places that aren’t meant for mortal eyes. 2. It starts being expected that you use this in the intended content. They start making jumping puzzles that are only able to be completed by using the jumping buff.

Well, what I’ve heard here all makes sense. What I am hearing is that it is all in my vision… all in my perspective …all in my head. Problem is, that’s the worst place for it !

A jumping buff would be nice. This is why I always choose human though :P. The middle ground, sturdy and reliable like a Honda xD.
